News Round Up 2016

Honestly, I have learned life is so much better if you don't read Spirits post. I love insiders, but you honestly won't miss anything if you don't read his post. He is wrong a good bit, and things he says he tries to say so early that it changes a lot. But when you read his post, they are just attacks on Disney 99% of the time. You don't feel better by reading them.

I know I'm veering into OT territory but I'd prefer to read the basic points of the rumors that @rteetz and others provide than all the pearl-clutching histrionics. I don't really understand why people who hate things continue to involve themselves in it. I can only guess he really enjoys the attention he gets from the other users over there. Utimately, he's not any better than "lifestylers" and "bloggers" he derides. Playing the contrarian doesn't make you any better than anyone else.

I'm so tired of all these movie previews taking up park space. Maybe they should build a small theater space in Disney springs dedicated to previews.

With that said.... I'm so excited for moana I can't wait. Haven't been this excited for a Disney animated movie since wreck it Ralph.
Well they do the previews in one mans dream which isn't exactly bringing in the crowds and then the previews are done in muppets theater which isn't currently being used in DCA. So it's not like they are taking away major in parks films.

I agree with the pompous part, I don't agree with the accurate part. He has been wrong a lot too. I have found martin the most accurate, as he waits a little longer to post inside info then others.

You don't feel better by reading them. You don't get excited reading them. You just get depressed. And then you find out later that "plans have changed". Other insiders have been wrong too, but I don't get as depressed reading Martin or Wildcat or MansionButler or any of the others, even when they report bad news, as much as one does reading Spirit. And he uses it as a platform to give his opinion about the company all the time. He loves t he spot light, and that's why I don't respect him as an insider. The other insiders, they just enjoy Disney, and love telling about the stuff to come, even when it disappoints them. I have never seen Spirit excited about anything coming.
True, he can depress the most excited disney fan, and I agree Martin is usually more patient and accurate. And he is hedging on the GoTG NOT going to UoE...so lets wait and see.

But in general yes, you have to take all these rumors and insider reports with a grain of salt. One, you don't know who or where the inside information is coming from and two, Disney can't seem to make up its mind on alot lately, there is no doubt that alot of these rumors were plans, and then Disney wild haired it and changed it again.

True but I don't know if I would compare him to Jim Hill. Each "insider" is crazy/different in their own way.

I don't think Jim Hill is an insider. I think he knows insiders...and they occasionally feed him stuff. I also think the stuff they feed him are as much "test balloons" as anything else - just to see how the public will react. His information is wrong 90% of the time. Spirit has a much better track record - and I notice the negativity, but since I rarely read what he says directly - just what's reposted over here - that doesn't bother me.

But that's normal. Every company has a bunch of prospective plans - and until they pass budget approval that's all they are is plans. Being that we are Disney superfans here, we listen for rumors well before the announcement stage. The average Joe knows nothing of GotG in Epcot or wherever. Most people barely know there are two sets of Disney Parks in the US. I've had several people come up to me that are upset that Tower of Terror in Florida is being replaced - but once I explain that's in California they calm down a lot.

Co-Worker: "So Mike, how was your Disney trip?"
Me: "It was awesome we did X, Y, Z."
Co-Worker: "You didn't do Harry Potter?"
Me: "Uh...no...I went to Disney."
Co-Worker: *stares at me blankly* "Yeah...I know"

A lot of people say they are fans because they like the movies. A lot of people say they are fans because they like the rides. We are a very small minority that is into the nitty gritty of every news story, of any and all implications that may exist. We try to connect the dots. If a butterfly flaps it's wings in Shanghai does it cause a Tron ride in EPCOT? That type of stuff. This is our passion. This is what we actively seek out. Honestly, I sometimes forget just how thick in the weeds we are, and conversations like the one above remind me just how in the minority we are. And to be honest, I kind of like that.

I'm not quite sure where I was going with this post. Maybe just the fact that we have become a special kind of jaded by being exposed to all this rumors so far in advance. I don't know. Our reaction to a post by Spirited would be extremely different than an average guests reaction to it.

I agree with your coworker. HP has been on are "WDW" list every trip lately. Is getting a bit old though now, likely not making the cut coming up, for a while anyway.

Sorry, that conversation was to imply that my co-worker thought Harry Potter was at one of the Disney parks. Guess it doesn't play well via written word.

Oh gosh sorry, I really thought they meant it.

I say the exact same thing to folks.

I think there is something to be said for being into the details and tracking news which brings to light things that don't come to be or are cut/cut back that can bring to light more negative things than if you are a casual fan

For example, I saw the first plans for the slinky dog coaster and then the revised plans which called for less theming, etc. .... it bummed me out but I am sure 99% of the population would have no idea of what was originally pitched and will love (not to say I won't love it anyway but I might think about what more it could have)

So, I think what you are saying then, is that obsession has a downside...:rotfl2:

Hmmm, where did you first see that?
