The Running Thread - 2016

ATTQOTD: I don't like running in the dark but lately I haven't had much choice. Usually by the last 15 minutes it is pretty dark. I take my headlamp and stick to sidewalks. Funny enough the other day I mentioned running in the dark to my mom and flashlight gloves showed up in the mail today. I can't wait to try them out tomorrow.

Flashlight gloves?!!! That sounds cool. What do they look like and do they really work?

QOTD: Todays question is a little off topic but relevant to the thread. From 11/13 to 11/20 I am heading home (WDW) and have a fairly busy schedule that may not allow for much DIS time. So the question is, who would yall like to be the QOTD poster for a week? Or would it be easier for whoever post the first question that day becomes the QOTD? Anyone want to volunteer for a week, and if we have a couple takers we could have a vote or split up the days... The last option is the QOTD takes a week off as well?

ATTQOTD: I'm open to any and all ideas suggested by the group.

I'll be there the week before you!

I think you pick one person for the first day, then each day the QOTD person gets to pick a new person for the next day. Since this was my idea, however, you cannot pick me first.

This is a good idea!!

I saw a new piece of running tech on Facebook that was essentially headlights for your shoes. They looked awesome.
Was it these? ;)
ATTQOTD: I don't usually run at night, but sometimes I do run in the late afternoon and up here, in the middle of winter, it's starting to get dark at 3:30 pm. Last year I got these Nightrunner 270 shoe lights for Christmas. They are rechargeable LED headlights for your shoes, and they are very bright. I like them better than a headlamp. They also have a rear facing red light so people behind you can see them. http://nightrunner270.com/

They are pretty neat! It gets dark so early up here once we change the clocks, that I need them even during the day as mentioned. :(

I don't run in the dark. My neighborhood is too busy and I'm nervous even in the daylight! Plus there are critters and I don't do critters. I mostly do the treadmill and my long runs are on the sandy track on base. I feel safe there!

This stomach bug from earlier this week and the catching up from missed time at work plus the feeling of just feeling week is negatively effecting my running goals for the month. I'm on about 3.5 hours of sleep today and a lot of work to get done. All I want to do is continue to plan my WDW trip (thinking of starting a pre trip thingy) and get my runs in. Adult life says work and no fun. Not looking good for 200 mile this month :(

OMG--I think I had the same thing you did, last week. Ended up in the ER getting IV fluids and nausea med--amazing how that can knock out your energy for about a week!

Oh, and please do a pre trip thingy! Have fun on your trip!

So I just booked (well, waitlisted since booking doesn't open until January) a 4 bdrm Presidential at Bonnet Creek for a week for our family vacation next year and realized it could possibly be W&D race weekend! Is it always the first weekend in November? We are going 10/29-11/5, which I could extend to 11/6 if it is W&D weekend. :)

@DopeyBadger It's a big game for my Huskers this weekend! Are you going to the game? My Sunday run will either be a run of joy or devastation :o

It should be a fun one! Unfortunately we gave up our season tickets 4 years ago because of the awful home game slate for the next couple of years (the last 3). This would have been a good season to buy back in though with two top 10 home night games. But with my daughter now, and my wife working all of the games at her store (they're roasting candy corn!), it's better for me to just watch in the comfort of my home. Plus, this weekend is the Halloween festival in Madison which can get CRAZY! Not as bad as it was when I was in school with 100,000+ in a few blocks. I don't want to be anywhere near the downtown area. I'm actually going to work tomorrow morning at 5:30am to get a quick thing done so I don't have to drive back in to pick up my wife when she's finished tomorrow night.

It should be another electric atmosphere. Hoping that both teams can come out injury free and give their best effort. I'll be thinking of Sam Foltz during the game. I know him and our kicker (Gags) were good friends. Let's see if you guys get 27 (his number) points for the third consecutive game. Best of luck!

So, I love running in the cold but the last 2 days have made for miserable runs. Yesterday it was 34 degrees with a steady rain. Today it was 43 degrees with winds at 20MPH, gusting much higher as I crested hills. :cold:

Pretty likely. I think it almost always bumps up against Veterans Day.

EDIT: I never want to say "always" when it comes to runDisney. They announced changes to W&D this year less than 24 hours before early registration began, so you never know!

I see where you're coming from... Game days in Lincoln are absolutely incredible, but they can be exhausting too! I do miss the days of $20/game student season tickets though! Sometimes nothing beats the comfort of your own couch and having "instant replay" with your own remote. :)

Every team we've played this year has done something very nice in memory of Sam Foltz... It's touching and really makes you realize the good that can come from competition!

Hoping for a great game! Good luck!

Edited to add: Ummm roasting candy corn? This is intriguing... tell me more?

Right? I was kind of glad I hadn't planned to do that one this year. It would have made me crazy!
