Staying on the ship in Nassau. Tips?

Do you know what kind of deals the spa would have on a port day? I know some cruise lines have deals, but I'm not sure if Disney does deals on port days. I have usually just booked my spa treatments on embarkation day, so normally looking into spa deals on port days hasn't happened.

There was a spa deal on port days, but I don't remember how much it cost...you could choose 3 different 20 minute long treatments out of a list (so a 60 minute treatment) for a cheaper price.

For anyone knowledgeable about Nassau...would this route seem safe for a morning run?

short answer, "no"
long answer, "there isn't any route in nassau that is safe for you to run"...

I know plenty of you have said that you like to stay on the ship in Nassau. I'll be on the December 18th 5-night Magic cruise with a stop in Nassau. This will be our 3rd time to Nassau with the first two times consisting of trips to Atlantis and the other time seeing the island. We have determined that this is a port that doesn't interest us to get off for this trip. I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips of what you like to do on these days. I have looked at navigators, and it seems like there isn't much activities planned when the ship is in port besides movies on funnel vision/Buena Vista Theater. Thanks for your help!
Thanks for starting this great thread! We chose to feature it on the DIS Daily Fix! :)

Even if it was safe I would not run there. I'm a regular runner as well and it's far too congested to get a good run in. You'd be constantly dodging parked taxis, horses (yes, horses) and people. We walked through there and just walking had me annoyed.

My first trip to Nassau and cruise for that matter. Can anyone tell me if there is a close place to buy some beers to bring back on the ship?

When you say safe, are you talking about safety from crime, or physical safety while running? The route you've chosen should be safe as far as criminal activity might be concerned, as it is primarily through the major tourist areas. However, whether it would be actually safe to run there is another question. The roads are narrow, often there are not sidewalks, and I have a never quite figured out what the traffic laws are in Nassau! I'm not sure if this would be allowed, but I wonder if you could run in the dock area. It would have to be kind of circular, and maybe it would make the local Port Authority uncomfortable to see someone running out there, but it would be a nice flat space outside of the ship itself.

I have been on a Disney Cruise before. I just can't remember the answer to this question...Do the lounges remain open while a ship is in port? I'm just wondering incase I want to get a non-alcoholic beverage (I don't drink alcohol). I might not want to always drink soda or water from the pool deck while a ship is in port. A virgin strawberry daiquiri sounds amazing right now. Less than two weeks!

My plan in Nassau is to get off and go for a run while my wife and daughter go to the beach nearby. When I'm done with the run I'll grad a few beers at Pirate Republic Brewery, pick up a couple 6 packs of my favorites then head back on board.
Is that brewery easy to get to? We were planning on staying on board, but maybe a trip to rum distillery and the Pirate brew might be a few fun stops?

First of all, you can wake up later (which is kinda fun to do on vacation)... Sometimes they have Palo Brunch (we enjoyed it very much), we have tried the Rainforest at the Spa (very nice), we have done Wine Tasting (interesting) and Mixology (a lot of fun), we took advantage of the Quiet Cove pool which was more quiet and we went to the movies.

We were on the Magic in the Med this past September and stayed onboard for two of the four ports the ship visited. It was so much fun!! We spent a lot of time in the Oceaneres Club, they had open house all morning (we're two adults...). They also had some activities in the morning, like charades and walk a mile with a cruise staff member, we went to a movie in the movie theater, there were also movies at the pool. The Aqaudunk only opened at 2 PM on port days, so we did that once it opened and there were no lines, we went about six times in a row, we loved it. You can also play shuffleboard on deck 4, but we never had time to check that out.

i love your icon or picture or whatever that's called!!! the window with the mickey cling thingee on it!!!! love it!!!

so adults without children are permitted in the kids clubs during open house?
also in the vibe and edge?

yes, very near the port area there is a grocery up one block from the 'main drag' - that's where i get my beer, wine, and other sundries. It is for locals and tourists so it's not an overpriced tourist trap. Just asked a uniformed police officer - they'll point you in the right direction

Nassau is a lot of fun. The disboards "stay on this ship in nassau" rule has become one of those overdone things (like signed pillow cases and 'secret' pixie dust)- so much so that there is no benefit to staying aboard.

Take a $10 taxi ride to paradise island:
  • The margaritaville in Nassau is new-ish and a lot of fun - my son enjoyed swimming in their pool while we had margaritas :) - plus you're on the harbor so get to watch yachts come and go.
  • There is a fun candy shop with unique candies in the shopping center near atlantis - plus many other fun shops to browse.
  • Locals playing music with make-shift instruments - your kids can join in.
  • Gamble in the Atlantis casino (my favorite)
  • Walk around inside Atlantis lobbies - a few free aquariums.
