Hi, I'm a DL vet and in the last year have had knee problems and can't handle the walking in the parks so, I rent a ECV. Can you please tell me about the companies you recommend to rent from that will drop off & pick up from AoA. Also please let me know when you recommend reserving as at WDW everything is booked so much more in advance than DL. Also, what is the approximate good price for a 3 day rental. This is for 5/12-5/14/17.

This is a list of the Featured Vendors in alphabetical order:
  • Apple Scooter
    321-726-6837

Apple rents scooters, manual wheelchairs, single and double strollers.
They do rent smaller, 16 inch wide wheelchairs, suitable for smaller people (and children) between 80 and 135 pounds.
Apple has many good reviews from DIS posters and is a long time favorite. There have been some recent (2015 and early 2016) negative reviews.
  • Best Price Mobility

  • Scooterbug

    Scooterbugmobility.com
    little feedback from DIS posters.
They rent ECVs, standing ECVs, manual wheelchairs, single and double strollers (weight limit to 60 pounds).
From what I can tell, this company provides strollers, wheelchairs and ECVs for the WDW parks; and probably pool chairs. They also rent the large grey ECVs that can be rented in the parks, plus a form of Standing ECV that guests can drive from a standing position. Here is a link to a thread about them, with pictures.
These are the only rental companies that can drop off and pick up at a Disney resort. If you search here you will find reviews from patrons on these companies.

How far ahead to rent is very dependent on when you go. If it's prime like the holidays then you want to be way ahead of time. Normally, a week ahead should be good enough. There are many scooter rental companies in Orlando.

We are going your same dates and then some. My parents will be renting an ECV and we just booked with Buena Vista Scooters. They are $31/day or $41/day depending on the scooter. If you are DVC, you get an extra 10% off. They drop off by 8am and pick up by 10am (or get charged for an extra day).

I just wrote on another thread about my opinions of Buena Vista, Apple, and Walker (not a Featured Vendor, but they're good).

Let's just add this bit of advice - regardless of WHO you rent from, it's important to have the office hours & availability of your mobility vendor at hand. (Prior to owning my own ECV, I would make an address book entry in my phone for any mobility vendor I would rent from, so that I could access the number easily. In the "Notes" area, I would include information like office hours)

That way, if you have any issues with the ECV during your trip, you can easily reach out to the vendor, and hopefully get a quick response.

Wow! That's a really good price compared to the scooter rentals here in CA. Thanks for this info. Do they require an additional deposit? If yes, how much?

This is also good advice. I always add them as a contact but never added the business hours. I will do this as well.

Thanks for all this info. I will read reviews on yelp and call them to get more info.

I agree. THey arrived right on time, even picked up when I WANTED. I will probably rent again in May.

Just an FYI. Care Medical is going out of business at the end of May
I too have used Walker Rental and wish they were a preferred vendor.

What do you all mean by Walker rental being a preferred vendor? Are they not allowed to pick up/drop off scooters to the Disney resorts?

They can drop off/pick up scooters from you, but you must be there. A featured vendor can drop your scooter off at bell services and pick it up from bell services. Walker makes it relatively easy-they called me about 15 minutes beforehand, then I had to wait at the bell services area. When I brought it back, they called me about an hour beforehand, then again about 10 minutes beforehand (the first phone call was just to check on the time I'd requested when I made my reservations-"Will that still be OK?") However, I am thinking a featured provider might be easier.

OK that makes sense. WDW is a little different than DL. For WDW not just anyone can come in to the hotel gates like taxi's for example. Because DL is such a smaller area rules are different. I am from CA so, I visit DL more than WDW as it's less expensive for me. When I have rented in CA they dropped off/picked up and you don't have to be a preferred vendor to do so because there aren't as many rules here in CA. I think the drop off/pick up is more convenient especially for people flying in and wanting to take upon arrival. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it!

I've done both and a featured provider is easier.
For me flying in from CA I think it will be more convenient for me as well. I'm considering Buena Vista. There is no deposit required, the cost is not too high, reviews are pretty good and you can reserve in advance and they will charge your card 7 days before the rental date. They told me to call back 2-3 weeks prior to my arrival as now is too early for a May arrival date.

The reviews on Yelp for Walker are 5 stars from all individuals... I guess now I have to look at them more... Also AAA diamond rated and BBB approved...hhhmmm decisions decisions...:confused3
