Disney's CARIBBEAN BEACH RESORT Information & Questions

Before they shut down the food court in OPR they will have a full service food court set up. It will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. It will have seating and be air conditioned. it will have about 75% seating capacity as OPR has now but they figure there will be at least 25% less rooms due to the removal of some of the Barbados and Martinique buildings. This will most likely be setup in at least one, maybe two giant tents outside of OPR. The cooking will be done in trailers right next to the seating areas.

There will also be food stations with grab and go items all day right by the Jamaica and Aruba beaches.

As of right now, nothing is scheduled to start until May 1st. Now that could change, but if it does I see it being pushed back. I don't think WDW has ever started a project early.

So is the food court not being shut down on May 1st while they put up the tents? Are they waiting until the tents are fully functional to close that? Or will the food court be closed and only the limited options of food available for a short time (May) while they set up the tents? Obviously if no construction starts until May 1st they cannot set up tents before then. I just don't understand what really will be happening.

No.

Yes.

No.

No major work is going to start until May. They will be doing some prep work prior to that like putting up the tents, putting up fences, etc. Once the temporary full food court is up and running, they will be cutting back on the options inside OPR and only serving breakfast and dinner. Then once they are satisfied with how the temporary food court is functioning, they will close the food court inside OPR.

As of right now, this is the plan. As I've said, this may change a bit. But if anything it would be pushed back because I have never heard of WDW starting something like this early.

Dansdad thanks for keeping us informed :thumbsup2

I have a question and I realize this is impossible to answer fully but looking for opinions. Someone in a FB group yesterday mentioned a CM saying the CBR guest should 'jump ship because this may involve the pool' Now obviously a game of telephone that involves a CM and FB is not exactly a great source ;) but those knowledgeable folks who have looked at the permits - do you think that is possible? I really REALLY want to stick this out and stay with CBR but if the pool ends up closing I am going to be seriously disappointed. My concern is that the pool bar is closing and I cannot see why that would happen so close to the pool without affecting the pool. Thoughts? Who has a crystal ball I can borrow? pixiedust:

The pool bar is far enough outside the pool area that my guess it that it will be blocked by the tents/temporary kitchens they'll be setting up.

I actually am calling Disney right now to see what can be done. My 3 girls (8,7,5) were estatic to stay at CBR and I am just concerned that I paid all this money and am not going to be getting the same experience that I initially thought I would be. I talked to a very nice CM this morning but she indicated that there is nothing she can do about a transfer nor a stay credit that she must transfer me to a supervisor. I am currently on hold in that situation, we shall see. I am not sure what we will do. This is our 2nd trip to Disney and we stayed at POR last time but we were hoping to try something new this time around and CBR is the only other Moderate that can accommodate 5 people in a room.

For those of you will have successfully been moved or credited, are you going in May? Has anyone beyond the month of May had success dealing with Disney?
June 4th till 10th....we opted to stay and take the credit :) Last night I was on the phone for over an hour on hold!!! but well worth it..we got over $400 back and free fastpasses for the wait.

Am I the only one here that is seeing a positive in the refurb? lol We are hoping it will be quieter with everyone jumping ship..as I previously posted all the kids care about is will they still be serving pizza and that they get their pirate room...if the kids are happy so are we. We are going to take that money we just saved and do a day at Universal Studios which we couldnt previously afford on the budget so we are all so excited!! This has worked out perfect for us. I understand though for people coming for the first time how disheartening this is..Im so sorry for that. I just know Disney and know it wont be as bad as it is painted...they always come up with a good way round things and thats why we are taking the risk...but then we come every year for the past 9 years so not as big a deal to us. I hope everyone gets a good move that needs one, fingers crossed for you.

Did you have to talk to a Supervisor to get the credit, currently on hold (with no music which makes me nervous)

We booked through a UK travel agent and they've said Disney have told them that they cannot do anything about our stay. We also tried Disney and they said to contact our travel agent. What on earth should I do? We're forking out a lot of money for a vacation and I'm disappointed. We're staying October 30th-November 13th.

Ok, a little update for you guys. I called about my reservation and two others. I travel 4/19-4/23 and my guests check in 5/15. I spoke to a CM at reservations who first said they could move at their own cost and no credit. Then I told him about the update to the TA site with the refurb news and what I had heard here. Then he called Guest Services and they said he could give a credit. I said my guests wanted to move and got put in a queue for Guest Services. GS was awesome. They confirmed that guests could either move based on availability or could have a $75/night credit. I took the credit for my personal reservation as I was looking forward to trying CBR since I haven't stayed there in a while. My guests were moved to Riverside at no cost to them. They said they are giving credits to guests currently booked through the end of the year so I will be calling back again once I speak to other guests. But hopefully that information will help those who do call.

@JordanStreet your TA in the UK needs to call back and get you one of these two offers at the least. It is their job to do it no matter how long the queue is or they have to wait.

My family is booked to stay here December 9-16. We picked CBR because we wanted a moderate to qualify for regular free dining (fingers crossed that it does come out), and this was the resort whose food court looked the best to us. So I have two questions:

1) If you take the discount, do you still qualify to add free dining if it comes out?

2) Has anyone had any luck getting a discount to move to a deluxe? POR and POFQ are sometimes excluded from free dining, and Coronado will also have construction, so I feel like we're out of luck as far as moving to another moderate and hoping for free dining. Not to mention, my husband isn't wild about any of those three resorts.

Thanks everyone for the great info so far, and please keep reporting back on the results of your calls!

Agree with lovingier...you need to get onto your travel agent and have them call Disney again..they need to speak to a supervisor as they are the only ones authorized to do the credit. I was on the phone holding last night for one hour and 39 minutes. I first spoke to a CM who then transferred me to a supervisor. Its not one rule for some and not for others. I knwo that they are giving it to travelagents too as thr supervisor I spoke to was really nice and we were chatting and he mentioned that his phone had blown up all day with travel agents calling wanting the offer. Betting they dont want to hold on that long but they have to!!..its their job so get tough and tell them to do it. This is your vacation and your hard earned money!!! Call TA and get tough!!

I dont know about free dining but we didnt lose our fun in the sun pirate room offer...all they did was deduct $75 off the cost of the room per night for us, nothing else changed, betting it wont affect your free dining one bit as they are not doing anything other than reducing the balance.

It took me over an hour to get a supervisor but I was offered the same deal that others have talked about. The supervisor did have a few questions that she could wanted to follow up with the resort in regards to the food offerings and to ensure the main pool would not be effected and will be calling me back.

We are also traveling the week after Easter and are so upset about the construction. My kids were so looking forward to staying at CBR. My question is we booked with undercover tourist....would I still be eligible for the credit and would I have to call or would they?

They would have to call for you if they are who you booked through
