Inside Luau?!

I think we'll end up going with the Paradise Cove luau as well. I was really excited for Aulani's with the characters being in the show but I can't reason spending the money on it with it being inside. We have a four year old, too. Hopefully, she still likes the show, sans Mickey.
We are in a similar situation to yours with a 3 year old and a 5 year old. I just booked the inside luau yesterday for May 26th. Will wait for reviews to surface prior to our trip. The cancellation policy is 48 hours. I believe it will be harder to get disney luau reservations last minute if it is a hit than find one of the others last minute. Also, my wife is vegeteranian I don't eat much of red meat; I believe Disney will be able to cater to our diet limitations better than other places at least that's what I was told when I called.

To get the entertainment discount you must call paradise cove. They will apply it and require you to bring the actual coupon with you.

We are going in May and plan to go to the Luau. When I booked our reservation, I was told that our 2 1/2 yo did not need a ticket, but would be considered a "lap child." Has anyone does this, and been comfortable? Or should I buy our child a ticket to have her own seat?

FWIW, the characters are fun, but are only in the show for one short song.

Hi everyone!

My travel agent sent me the following message she saw about the Luau:

From May 8-June 16, 2017, at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, Hālāwai Lawn, where the KA WA’A Lū‘au regularly takes place, will undergo necessary maintenance. During this time, we are pleased to offer a modified lū‘au in our Kaiona ballroom with the same storyline as KA WA’A. This lū‘au features a delicious meal and entertainment featuring the performers who bring KA WA’A Lū‘au to life.

I am pretty disappointed it won't be outdoors when we are there the beginning of June. I even called at our 60 days out to confirm. The cast member said it definitely won't be done earlier than those dates either. The price is still $125 and they are not offering VIP. She was very honest and said it isn't worth the price to be indoors, especially if your first time to Hawaii or to a luau.

We will be coming to Aulani after a week on Maui. I think we will just get our luau fix in there.

We haven't been to Aulani (yet :thumbsup2) but last year we were on Maui and went to a luau, boasted as one of the best on the island. It was inside and man, it was hella lame. Felt more like a convention or a wedding reception than a luau. Very disappointing :sad2:

Which one did you go to on Maui?

Which one did you go to on Maui?

It was held at the Hyatt in Lahaina, called Drums of the Pacific

Now the weather was NOT cooperating that day, it was raining at the time of our luau so perhaps that's why it was held inside, eventhough it wasn't exactly a downpour. (no official word ever reached us), but the fire show at the end of the night was held outside in a TINY courtyard. It lasted 10 minutes max and was very disorganized. We found coupons which made both of our children free. Open bar included (but drinks were watered down). The best part was the roasted pig......oh my goodness, I still dream about that pig.....that delicious delicious pig!!! :worship:

I have not been but the Old Lahaina Luau on Maui is supposed to be good. I am not a big luau fan and had mixed feelings about whether we should go to Ka Wa'a before our trip last week. I loved it - it was so much better than any luau I have ever been to, however I don't think it would not be worth it to go see it indoors. They must close that lawn for maintenance periodically. We were at Aulani in November 2015 and the lawn was closed that week so the Starlit Hui and movies on the lawn were not held.

I would go to Paradise Cove instead. The show was good and we thought the food wasn't bad either. We also each had 3 drinks included (drink when you walk in + Cove Card that comes with your package, we used those to each buy 2 additional drinks). For $200 for the two of us, I thought it was a decent price. No way would I be sitting in an indoor luau, even if it is Disney's.

I am interested as well how far in advance to buy Paradise cove. Definitely wanted at least orchid package

We did Paradise Cove in September and did the Orchid package (my trip report in my signature has pictures and details). I asked the guy when we went how often it sells out and he said in the summer, they are sold out almost nightly.

Just found your thread! We'll be at Aulani 5/11-5/16 and had the same laua dilemma after I heard about the renovations. We ended up booking the Hawaiian Luau package at Paradise cove for 5/15. We live in Oregon, and there's is no way I'm doing an indoor luau, as nice as I'm sure Disney will make their show!

For the cost, I would not buy her a ticket. My 4.5 year olds sat in their own seats to eat, but then asked to be cuddled on our laps for the show. I think the only time it would be more convenient to have your own seats is when you are actually eating. But even that is short lived with a 2.5 year old!

Good news, made a reservation for June 21st and they said the luau will be outdoors :)

Happy to hear outdoor option is back......can't wait to hear those reviews LOL!

we used an entertainment book coupon for Paradise cove for 25% off adults. Even when the luau was outdoors last month when we were there, and we could see it from our first floor patio, we were so happy we'd ventured over to Paradise Cove instead for the change of location and atmosphere and luau on the beach. I think Paradise Cove gets a bad rap, we had a great night there.

Any idea if the 25% off is good on all packages?

Just chiming in. My family did Aulani's Christmas dinner in the Kaiona Ballroom, and found the ballroom space to be pretty small, long and narrow. This is in comparison to other Waikiki and Disney hotel grand ballrooms I've been to, like the Hilton Hawaiian Village, Moana Surfrider, Hawaii Prince Hotel, Hyatt Regency Waikiki, the Disneyland Hotel, etc. The Kaiona ballroom was dedicated entirely to dining tables and a bandstand, and could accommodate maybe 200-300 people on a mix of rectangular 6-tops and round 8-tops; the chafing dishes and buffet line had to be put in a smaller adjacent room. There's an artificial lawn right outside; and at least for the Christmas dinner, was lit up with lanterns and had rather poorly set up tents for character meet and greets. The Christmas dinner price was $89.50 for adults and $45.75 for children. We were disappointed with the whole setup, and wouldn't do it again. The luau costs more, right? I believe the Kaiona Ballroom may be Aulani's largest indoor entertaining space, and it's a nice looking space but not really grand, and I don't see how even Disney magic can make an indoor luau here worth the time and money.
