Spring into a New Beginning- APRIL 2017 WISH Lifestyle/Weight Challenge

Have you had any unexpected benefits from living a healthy lifestyle?

Not really unless you count knowing that there are some diets out there that nutrition wise are outright unhappy so I can avoid such ones as the apple diet ( eat nothing but apples), baby food diet ( 2 jars of baby food at each meal but unlike an actual baby starting on foods hold the bottles of milk) and the I want my mommy diet ( this one you drink nothing but a special milk that I can't remember what all was in it but I do recall it had either evaporated or condensed milk and was really watered down-sorry I tossed the magazine the article was in years ago and can only remember it was from sometime in the early to mid 90s)

Good Morning!!

Here is your fun question for the weekend. Steamboat Willie was the first cartoon with sound. Do you listen to music while you workout? What is on your soundtrack? Care to share your most embarrassing song on your playlist?

I'm very late to the April party - I just joined the site.

I'm working to deal with severe anxiety and depression. Meds are helping and now I'm trying to be less of a workaholic and taking care of my health. My goal is to be running 4 days a week.

So far as @MommaoffherRocker question for the weekend, I have mostly indie and pop on my running playlists. I don't have anything particularly embarrassing on its own, but it is embarrassing how frequently I play certain songs - I fixate and play it to death, which i know would be so annoying if anyone else heard it!

Currently I don't listen to music while I work out at this time. My old tape player started eating the tapes years ago and I had too much trouble with skipping on cds. I have a digital player but need to get songs on the computer and than onto that. Trying to play stuff on the house cd player gets it turned off if it is not what 9 year old wants to listen to and at the gyms the music that they will pipe in if you ask ( at least one does) is usually not to my liking though I put up with it when others ask though if I am there first I find it rude that they do not ask others all ready there if they mind. No choice on the channel it is what the workers want.

I'm Melanie, a SAH mom from FL with 5 kids (age ranges are 2-10). When my youngest was born I took up running to lose weight and have lost 28lbs on top of the baby weight. I would like to lose about 30lbs more.

This month my goal is to lose 5 lbs. Things that are going to get in my way are myself (I love sugar and really food in general), Easter and a trip to WDW with a good friend, her DS11 and my DS10 (so excited the boys are penpals and will be meeting for the first time!!) I'm going to overcome these things by reminding myself how good it feels when the scales moves down when I want to eat everything. Also I am going to use the napkin trick to cover my food so I don't pick when we eat out.

My favorite Disney memory would have to be the marathon this past January. When I started training 9 months before the actual event I chose Walt's quote "It's kinda fun to do the impossible" as my mantra. It was a perfect fit because my dad told me the marathon was impossible for me. So on race day I wore the quote on my shirt. I went into the marathon so scared. I didn't want to be pulled from the course for being too slow. But a couple miles into the race I was determined to not only finish but to have fun. I rode the roller coaster, I high fived people, I made friends with another girl who was struggling. It was amazing! I finished that marathon as strong as when I started. I did the impossible. I proved to myself and my dad that I could do anything that I wanted to do!!
Good for you! :flower1:

Made it through showcase for the textile projects yesterday. The girls did well. 9 year old got 2nd place in appearance for Ready to Wear for her age group. 12 year old got 1st place in Needlework (Knitting) presentation, 2nd place in Display presentation, 3rd place in Quilting-wall hanging or other quilted item 3 years or less in project and buying for Ready to Wear in her age group, and 5th place in Beginner Sewing presentation ( From the comments what got her knocked down was she needed to iron her project. Amazing that what I kept telling her but she didn't want to do it and was it's fine).

I had a pretty good weekend. A lot of running around. I did not get my steps in like I should have but I was around 7-8,000 steps each day. I did something to my ankle Saturday morning. I am not sure what i did. I woke up with a really bad charlie horse in my calf and then my ankle hurt after that. I am pretty sure it has to do with the tendon. It feels the same as when I hurt the tendon at Disney. Hopefully it doesn't get that bad. Right now Advil is helping.

In 1931 Walt had a nervous breakdown. In the years before he had been having problems with the distributor of the Mickey Mouse cartoons and a new series of films called Silly Symphonies. The distributor, Pat Powers, was not paying the Disney Brothers for their films. When Walt when to confront Pat things got worse. Ub, who had been with Walt since his days in Kansas City, had signed a contract animate for Pat. Pat tried to use that to make Walt sign with him again but Walt walked away. Since Ub was a partner when he left Walt Disney Studios paid him his share $2920 (If he would have kept his share it would have claimed as high as $4,000,000,000!!).

Here is a picture of Walt and Ub.

To get rid of Pat Powers they had to pay him $50,000. With that came the return of financial troubles. Walt went to the doctor when he started having trouble sleeping and recalling what was going on in meetings. The doctor suggested Walt get away from the studio and rest. Walt and Lilly went on vacation. They headed to Washington DC and from there took a train to Key West. Then they hopped on a boat to Cuba and then cruised back through the Panama Canal and up the West Coast back to L.A. When he got back to the studios he followed his doctor's advice and added exercise to his routine. He also took up golfing and went horseback riding with Lilly.

When Walt started having health problems he went to the doctor. How about you, do you have a doctor helping with your healthy lifestyle?

Happy Monday! I am back home after an awesome trip to WDW. Now I have lots of unpacking
and laundry :laundy:

My answer for today's question is I do not include a doctor in my healthy lifestyle. I am really bad about going to the doctor (after having 5 kids I have more than my fill of doctors) but I really need to go. I think I am going to try to make an appointment today.

What a timely question for me!! It prompted me to make the call to get an appointment to have my foot looked at. It has been bothering me slightly for quite some time, It gets better than worse again then better. I now had a recommendation for a doctor who is supposed to be good for this, but I needed to get an appointment. That's done now, May 9th I will know more. I already liked the lady in the office who made the appointment for me.

In other news: I feel like I am on a roll at the moment. Eating is good, exercise is good and even the scale is good!! Still not brilliant. But I am currently 50% towards my goal for the month. Very happy about this and maybe I can end the month at 75% which would be brilliant. Spring and early summer and then early fall are usually my best weight loss times, so I need to make them count!!

I do not. I do go to the doctor once a year for a check up but that is it. I don't really talk about losing weight. I am actually going today for my check up.

Nope since they don't want to actually treat me just tell me I should basically starve myself ( oh your food journal shows your eating only 1200 calories a day I don't believe it are you certain your sure your recording everything. Your exercise journal says your working out 2.5 hours a day ( pre kids and pre chronic fatique, fibro diagnosis) try upping it to 3 hours or more a day) or they go lets put you on something like phen phen ( which we all know how dangerous that turned out to be) or it's come back when you have the money for gastic bypass surgery ( no lapband or sleeve option even mentioned it's straight for the most drastic never mind that my body does not process levels of certain vitamins and minerals correctly from food anyway and their is a major family history of it). Let's not forget to add that 99.999% of them are don't use your natural stuff because even though it works for you because it will counteract with this drug we want you on which will require you to be on 2 other drugs to counteract the side effects that you have had when you were on it before but we don't give a rats hind end because we want our kick back from the drug companies. ( oh and the .oo1 that was fine with it asked a few questions on what I knew on the herbals and stuff said looks like you have done your research and it appears to be working and with your history of drug allergies this is the best option for you-might be because of a D.O. not an M. D.)
As soon as I get some money ahead I need to get in to see a natural path and get some advice but after seeing that a high majority of doctors in both systems in my area have told my friend who's health problems were diagnosed by the AZ campus of Mayo Clinic along with another major health system that treats adults in several parts of the country and came up with the exact same that there is nothing wrong with her and that she needs to quite seeking attention ( oh yeah and friend is facing possible brain surgery this summer that should have been done earlier but wanted to get her youngest through senior year of high school)

Do you listen to music while you workout?

Right now I listen to the Not Real Runners podcast during my training runs. For races I have a music playlist but have noticed that I tune out so I might need to switch it up.

Similar to others I'm terrible about going to the doctor unless I have an injury or have been sick for an extended period. I only recently started doing the annual healthy woman exam after ten years of not getting it done. And I have an appt this week to see a doctor about getting a physical and blood work which I probably haven't had in twenty years. I have good health insurance so I need to be more proactive for sure.

Hi All! Back to work after a super lazy weekend. I slept so much -- it was amazing! LOL I have been getting a tickley throat but it hasn't progressed in the past 4 days... I wonder if I am developing seasonal allergies or if that's even possible? Anyway, the rest was really appreciated.

Food was a little off the rails-- we had Mexican. But I did go to yoga and didn't gain so I'll call it a success. One more class to go and I will be at goal for the month. That class is scheduled tomorrow, and then Wednesday I'm off to Orlando again. This trip is kind of freaking me out. I am really going to be put to the test. This is like our super duper (possibly our only vacation this year) Universal trip-- staying on site and everything. I am meeting up with my cousin who wants to eat at the Harry Potter restaurants, and then DH was looking at all the Citywalk places and making plans.... soooo I am going to have to make plans of what indulgences to plan for an what alternatives I can prepare for as well. Still excited nonetheless.

I have to keep reminding myself this is a lifestyle change, and part of my lifestyle will include things that I don't want to miss. And that may cause setbacks, but not to let that derail the entire process.

QOTD: Actually, yes, kinda. Up until last year, I only went to the doctor when I needed antibiotics. But then I was tired all the time, started feeling faint sometimes, and light headed when I would eat sugar.... I thought I was maybe becoming diabetic (or was miraculously pregnant...). Long story short, I ended up going to get a full work up and we discovered I had a slight heart issue. Nothing like thinking you're gonna have a heart attack to get yourself in gear. While my issue was not weight or diet related specifically, the Dr did say changing my diet and exercising could help my anxiety and in turn help reduce occurrences of heart flutters. Which I think was French for, he can't say for certain, but sure why not.

Anyway, I don't think I put it all together until last month just how much that has affected my desire to get in shape. Not just for the jean size, but so I don't feel winded when I take the stairs, which then makes me think I'm having a heart flutter, which then triggers my anxiety, which then really makes me have palpitations, which then really freaks me out, and we just have this fun vicious cycle :rotfl: I am a hot mess! So yeah, things like that are suddenly important to me. But it's been 4 months since I buckled down, I can already tell how much more confident and less anxious I am, and also how carrying heavy things, jogging, and taking stairs doesn't affect me as much as before.

Welcome!! Sounds like you are off to a great start:flower:I have never heard of the ideal protein diet, can you tell us about it?

It prompted me to make the call to get an appointment to have my foot looked at.
I am glad the question could give you a nudge. Sending you lots of pixie dust :tink:for your foot!

I do not. I do go to the doctor once a year for a check up but that is it. I don't really talk about losing weight. I am actually going today for my check up.
Happy to hear you do a yearly check up. You're probably ahead of most people out there!

Nope since they don't want to actually treat me just tell me I should basically starve myself ( oh your food journal shows your eating only 1200 calories a day I don't believe it are you certain your sure your recording everything. I feel like these are similar reasons I don't go. They are always telling me stuff that doesn't make sense or I feel like they don't believe me. I'm sorry to hear that you haven't had the best experiences with doctors and I hope the natural path has the results you're looking for :)

Right now I listen to the Not Real Runners podcast during my training runs.
adding this to my list of podcasts! it sounds right up my alley:D

better late than never!

Yes setbacks are normal so don't give up!
