River Cruise Questions

Did you tip any of the guides on the river cruise? I wasn't planning on it. I was going to take a small gift for Betti because we had her before and she is WONDERFUL, but wasn't planning on giving out any cash at the end (unless of course one of the guides was truly above and beyond, blow your mind, exceedingly exceptional).

On the Danube river cruise FAQ it says this: "Adventures by Disney has taken care of gratuities for all included meals and activities, such as tips for porters, housekeepers, drivers, activity providers, local experts and all crew. Gratuities for your Adventure Guides are also included."

I did not. The tips for the Adventure Guides were explicitly included, and I just thought it would be too difficult to tip all 8, and I didn't want to single anyone in particular out, although they were all lovely. I think this is why ABD includes them for this trip. I must admit, I kind of liked not having to worry about it for once. (Not that I don't think the Adventure Guides deserve the tips - they TOTALLY do! - but in this case, I felt it was OK.)

We are considering the Rhine River Cruise next year. Our concern is how the groups for the tours during the day are organized. What happens if one group fills up? Are you turned away and forced to take another option? There are a couple of things we want to do specifically and are concerned about missing out on them if "everyone" wants to do it and they don't have room.

If it works like the Danube did then you are choosing your excursions the day you board. This gives them plenty of time to organize groups and guides.

To my knowledge, no-one was "turned away" from an excursion on my Danube River cruise. They had it all worked out so that everyone was able to do what they wanted. 8 Guides gave them a lot of flexibility.

We had many fewer "must pick this or that" on our holiday Danube cruise. That said, we were part of a small group (I'd say 1/8 or 1/10 who went to Mondsee versus the mines. We still had a bus, Adventure Guide and step on guide. No one was told they couldn't go to the salt mines due to space.

Also, one afternoon we skipped the afternoon activity. They still sent an Adventure Guide and bus to pick up only three of us on the ship who wanted to do the evening activity. I found them very responsive to guests' desires for activities.
