I love credit cards so much!

Citi Prestige!

That's an interesting possibility. I wish the card offered the $250 credit towards travel generally, like the CSR, rather than only for airfare. Between United and AA points, and the 50% back feature from the AmEx Platinum, I am hoping not to pay cash for flights any time soon. What I really need now are hotel points.

Do you remember how long after you paid off the required spend that you got the pass? Hoping to beat the Dec schedule release on May 18th.

It was pretty much immediate. The points posted the next day after paying the bill and I logged on and it said I had it. The email came about a day after that. I already booked a trip for this weekend

I personally would not apply for a Freedom because the bonus is so low. I'd apply for a CSP to get the 50,000 UR points and then after a year product change your CSR or CSP (whichever makes better sense for your needs) to a Freedom. Chase will allow you to apply for and receive 2 cards in a 30 day window. I'd go for the United and CSP at the same time.

if you can find the inbranch freedom unlimited. 30k UR points for $500 spendings is a pretty sweet deal.

Yay, DH was just approved for the CSP! He applied on 4/20/17 but got the "we'll notify you in 30 days" status. I found a phone number to call to check his status and he was approved this morning! The UR points will go towards booking 3 nights at Aulani next November. I'm trying to get us to Hawaii all on points and this is a great start! I need him to get the CSR too but I'll have to tread lightly with him since I know he'll balk at the $450 AF.

If anyone is interested, if you need to check your Chase credit card application, you can call 1-800-436-7927, press #, then 3, then 1, then enter the SSN. It was great to get an update without having to speak to a live person.

For sure!!!

Since we don't really pay OOP for flights we use the airline credits to get airline gift cards. You have to check if your chosen airline will trigger the credit. FlyerTalk has threads on it. American Airlines will trigger the credit. For the Prestige we just get a $250 AA gift card and that works. For the Amex Plat cards we get $100 AA gift card and then a day or two later get a second $100 AA gift card.

We keep the gift card numbers and pins on a spreadsheet and let them pile up until they are needed. If we can't get a flight on miles or saver points then we will use the gift cards to purchase the flight. This came in handy recently when I couldn't find flights to San Francisco on miles after snagging Hamilton tickets. Gift cards to the rescue!

Awesome on getting approved! Here is the number I called today to check my app (also got 30-day msg): 1-888-338-2586 This number is automated and it goes straight to putting in SSN.

I got back from my work trip in Denver on Saturday. Stayed at the Marriott Denver City Center hotel and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I feel pretty spoiled staying mostly at SPG hotels (Westin, W and St. Regis), but this hotel was covered by the meeting organizer so I didn't have a choice. I got upgraded to a club level room and because I am a Gold member, I got access to the concierge's lounge, which I took full advantage of during my trip. It was really quite great and has me excited for our stay at the Marriott Copenhagen next month. Because I didn't pay for the room, I unfortunately don't get any Marriott points for my stay, but they said that I should get 4 nights towards my elite status. They haven't posted yet, but hopefully I will see them in the next few days.

I am about 1/5 of the way through my spend on the Marriott card now. Next month I have some big expenses, including booking several airfares for work travel and my auto insurance, so I should be closer to 3/5 of my minimum spend on that card and then hotel stays in June should help me wrap it up. Once I finish with that card, I am thinking that I want to apply for the CSP and Chase Freedom Unlimited (this will become my new miscellaneous spend card). And after 1 year, I later downgrade the CSP to a Chase Freedom. After these cards, I should be back down to 4/24, since one card will be falling off within the next few months. Not sure what I want to go for after that, but I guess I will see what kind of Chase offers are available at that time.

I think I may have screwed up here. Trying to keep track of mine and DH's accounts (as he has nothing to do with them - just enjoys the benefits). I am not signing up for any more cards until later in the year so I can try for the SW Companion pass. I will be at 3/24 in June. So, I figured I would sign DH up for a card. ( I hate not having any new cards to get bonuses and DS is going to college in the fall so can put that spend on some cards too). Anyway... I thought he was at 4/24 but I forgot he was an AU on one of my cards and he opened a stupid Sam's Club Visa back in Dec 2015. So, until June he is at 5/24. I applied him for his own Chase Sapphire Preferred and got the dreaded 30 day wait. I called the auto line and was told 7-10 days. Is this not good. Both Chase cards he has in his name have high credit limits but nothing on them. Credit score between 820-830. Do I have him call and see if they can move some $ around or are we just screwed this time.. (or do I just wait it out).

Oh and after he was not approved ASAP. I applied for a Barclaycard for him with the 50,000 bonus. He was approved for that. I thought since I had applied for the one that doing this one would only result in one hard credit pull. Then I realized that only happens if applying for the same Companies cards. (Boy, I am batting 1000 today).

You could have him call the recon line and see if they will consider him without the AU account. I did the same as you and applied for my dh a new card (thinking he was 3/24) but he was an AU on two of my cards so Chase put him at 5/24. He called recon twice but they would not approve him b/c of those two AU accounts. However, others have been able to get Chase to approve them so it's worth calling to ask.

As far as the 30-day msg or 7-10 days, it does seem from my reading that the 7-10 days msg usually means you will be denied.

I guess it won't hurt to try. He did get the 30 day message first - then I called the auto line and got the 7-10 day. Do you think I should have him call ASAP or wait a day or two and see what the Auto Line says then??

When I applied for the Marriott card and called the auto line, I got the 7-10 day message. I got a message the next day asking me to call the fraud department. They asked me a few verification questions and then I was instantly approved. So the 7-10 day message does not necessarily mean it is a complete denial.

Was this for your Arrival? You can redeem once the points have posted to the account, no need for the statement to post. As far as paying the bill, I don't think it counts as a payment toward the card when you redeem, unless the redemption brings you to a 0 balance.
Yes, arrival. When I try to redeem my points it doesn't give me the option to although I have 56,000 points. The charge I am attempting to erase is $379.

I'd be inclined to wait a day or two, and see if the msg changes. Like @Jen and Ashwin posted, there are certainly times where the 7-10 days msg doesn't mean denial. That is encouraging!

Since that one charge is over $100 then you should be able to wipe it off. Unless it didn't code as travel. That could be an issue because you don't have enough points. For non travel statement credits the points are only worth 1/2 a cent.

Question about hotel reservation on the Chase UR portal. Do they have Disney resorts available to rent with points? I've done some looking here and there just playing with some dates and I have rarely seen the Disney resorts listed. But, maybe I'm searching wrong or something. I'm just thinking in advance about our trip in January and so I know they wouldn't show availability for that yet, but I'm not seeing them for other random dates much either. If we can do that, then I'll likely try to build up and hoard some points to try and cover a stay there in January.
