Costco bookings wrap up...

We booked 2 cruises through Costco now and never got any Costco card cash.....only OBC

TAs give either/or (if they give incentives). So your TA deal was the obc. Either Costco had a very different special for your cruises or you booked a different cruise line. For instance, with Royal Costco gives obc. :)

If your Disney cruise through Costco has a GC sent, its obvious. You know what you'll be getting as you book it. It is sent very quickly after your cruise.

If I couldn't get a deal through another TA and could get a GC to a store I wasn't crazy about I'd still go with that store. Look at it as total-membership then once I got it I'd go buy a vacuum or shredder or something like that. Don't have to set foot in there a second time if you don't want to. :)

Then again I'm not sure if I'd walk that talk if the only deal I got was through sams club. I don't do Walmart.

Because they stated they don't like Costco (I don't blame them), so they would not be able to use the "gift" card. Not every state allows you to simply cash it out.
Got it, I guess I missed the every state part, we can do that in AZ, so thanks for the clarification.

Do Costcos in FL allow cashing out cash cards? Since cash cards don't expire and have no fees, one may be able to cash out the next time they to the FL for a cruise or a WDW trip (or maybe CA). I am not sure what other TAs offer and how they compare to Costco to see if that's worth the trouble/hassle.

Not sure if that is true for the US however it is not true in Canada. I have two cruises booked through Costco for Royal and they are offering GC's. No OBC.

ETA--We looked at booking with Costco for DCL a while back and at the time they were offering OBC however it is now GC's, I just checked. Not sure when it changed.

So, let me get this straight. If you book your cruise through Costco they give you a gift card valued at 8% of your cruise? And you can pay for the Cruise using disney gift cards? Whats onboard booking?

Correct, Costco gives a cash card equal to 8-10% of cruise fare after trip is complete. You can pay for Costco booked trips with Disney Gift Cards or even a Disney Vacation Account. While sailing during a cruise, booking your next trip onboard could give you another 10% discount on a future cruise completed within 2 years and one that is not on a blackout date. This onboard booking will also give you some onboard credit ($100 for cruises 3-6 days or $200 for 7+ days).

Costco has great online offers and numerous free shipping items. You don't have to live near one. The Costco CC has no annual fee and very nice cash back rewards.

While the Costco card has no annual fee through Citi, it requires you to remain a Costco member and pay your membership fees.

Is there any value in letting Costco before the cruise that you plan to designate them as the T/A when you do your onboard booking?

Great if you live in a house, an apartment complex with an office that receives packages, or a doorman building so getting packages is easy.

Otherwise it is a hassle - and a visit to an area that looks like an abandoned warehouse set for SVU - to get anything delivered.

Not particularly. If Costco did not handle the current cruise, I don't believe you can name Costco for the OBB; you can transfer the OBB reservation to Costco within 30 days. You would still need to initiate that transfer.

Enjoy your cruise!

Have it shipped to work or a relative.

I did not use any agent for the current cruise. Does that mean I can't designate them for the on board booking?

It's my understanding that you can only name a TA to an OBB if that TA handled your current cruise as well. Otherwise, you have 30 days to transfer an OBB (or any reservation) to a TA.

Enjoy your cruise!

So I didn't know I could use my DVA with Costco (didn't see it mentioned on their website :() and ended up booking through a TA. If we do an OBB, (just to make sure I get this right), I have to fill out some paperwork and transfer it to Costco? Does the original TA find out? (Assume so?)

If the cruise you are on (the one where you book the future cruise) was booked through a TA, you will have the option of using the same TA, or indicating that you aren't using your TA. Then you must transfer the booking to Costco, once home, within 30 days.

Not sure if the original TA would ever know. Maybe, maybe not.

When you do the OBB, tell them you don't want your current TA listed. Then when you are home, contact Costco. They will send you paperwork to transfer the booking. If it's only a placeholder, fill out the paperwork and email it back. A few days later, call DCL and ensure that Costco is now named as your TA. Keep all paperwork, in case you need it to prove you transferred your booking to Costco when you're ready to book the placeholder. If it's a booking, fill out the paperwork and email it back, but in a few days call Costco to make sure all is completed and the cruise has been entered into their system.

It's my understanding that your current TA would only find out if DCL gives them the OBB, as they would have to release it to Costco.

Thank you, both! Very helpful!

If I book through Costco, or name them after I book a placeholder, can I still book my onboard activities when the time comes?
