Room discount - how does it work if you are already booked and paid off? This gives me anxiety.

Hi,

We are staying at Polynesian in October and we purchased a dining plan. Our trip is all paid off and we are happily planning, but I guess it would be silly of me to not try for a room discount if it comes out tomorrow, right? I won't be willing to switch resorts or anything, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to ask?

So, would I lose my current reservation?
Would I have to pay a new deposit, then they would refund my money from my current trip? I'm confused.
Would I still be able to keep my dining package, hoppers and memory maker that I've purchased/paid for? Or does room only mean no package and I have to add on all separately? I have no idea how this works...

Thanks all!

You won't have to make a new deposit unless you want a room only reservation (no dining/no tickets). They would have to refund you the difference. They should be able to refund it to your credit card.

If you have any doubts, do nothing. You're already paid up. Just remember, if they have to cancel out your current reservations to rebook with the deal, you more than likely will lose what you have. There's waitlists out there that as soon as someone cancels, it goes to the next person on the list.

So, yeah, if I were you, I'd just leave it alone.

Okay.

I'm still confused. :rotfl:

Maybe I will just call and see what they say...

At some point you're gonna have to sit back and say that you're happy with the reservations and stuff that you have booked. If you keep trying to push to see what other discounts and such can be applied, it'll ultimately cost you in the end if you're not careful.

Remember, the more people you talk to, with computer screens and your reservations on them, the more opportunities there are for a mistake to be made and if that mistake gets made, it can't be undone.

Have them do the new reservation first, if you cannot simply amend your current reservation, and then cancel the old one.
Of course you should try to reduce the cost of your vacation.

This is the first I've ever tried for this discount. :confused3

But I am happy with what I have, so if it seems I will lose it, I won't bother!

That makes sense, thanks!

The "you" was a general one in that sense, as there are people out there that do that.

The statement of being careful because mistakes can't be undone, still stands. It sounds like you've got a pretty good setup. I wouldn't put it in jeopardy if you're happy with it.

ETA: Did you book through Disney? Renting member points via DVC? That'll make a difference as well.

Even though you paid your package in full, you are still within the terms and conditions of WDW packages which means everything you have paid (except airfare if you booked through WDW) is FULLY refundable up to 30 days prior to checking in! Yes, absolutely see if there is a room-only or free dining discount that is applicable to the package you have booked. You have NOTHING to lose. You can even go online and check your dates to see if anything at the Poly pops up. If you booked through WDW, you may also be able to modify to a discount directly online (if the modify option works tomorrow). And, yes, you can apply a room-only discount to a package reservation. If both a free dining and room only promo come out, I would check both to see which would offer you the best savings. Yes, they will either refund your money or give you a resort credit.

I'm sorry, This information is completely incorrect. A CM will not cancel anything while searching to see if a promo can be applied to the OP"s package. The CM can search the promo (or both if FD and room-only are released) and then give her the option of keeping what she has or switching to a discount. She will lose nothing - not her reservation nor her money. And, no, WDW does not keep wait lists for rooms. It's catch-as-catch-can. If a room is released back into the system, it is put back into inventory for whomever snags it first.

OP, don't leave it alone. Simply check to see if there is a promo at the Poly for your dates and make your decision from there. You have nothing to lose.

Hence why I asked how they booked. And please, go tell the people that have the horror stories of CM's losing their reservations that it can't happen.

I'm sorry that happened to you. You should have asked for a supervisor as they have a record of every single transaction that occurs on your reservation and could have recovered your reservation.

Never said it happened to me. Read the post.

ETA: Once a reservation is gone, it's gone. Especially on the DVC end, where there IS a waitlist. Again, this particular OP hasn't specified the way they booked. But when a mistake is made on the DVC end, the room is gone and there's no way to get it back.

The OP apparently has a Disney travel package based on the components, so it seems apparent that a DVC points reservation is not being discussed here. That's the only kind of reservation where waitlists exist.

I do agree though that the more times your reservation of any kind is pulled up for any reason, the more chances there are for someone to mess it up!

I am a big fan of getting any discounts available! I would follow the advice of calling to see if there is a discount available for your package when the discounts are released. If there is one, book it, and then have the phone CM cancel your current reservation. Don't cancel the reservation you have now until you have a new one booked with a discount.

There's waitlists out there that as soon as someone cancels, it goes to the next person on the list.

That's not even how Dvc waitlist work. Dvc waitlist if isn't immediate and people can jump in and snag rooms just by being on at the right time.

Hence why I asked how they booked. And please, go tell the people that have the horror stories of CM's losing their reservations that it can't happen.

Where are those stories?

Waitlists aren't immediate. And I've read posts about rooms being gotten back.

And if this was booked through Dvc they wouldn't be talking about discounts anyway. They would have either rented (almost always a final transaction), used points (no discount happening), or booked Dvc through Disney, which means it isn't really a Dvc booking and none of the Dvc stuff is an issue.

Op if you booked a normal package or even a ticketless package I don't think you're at risk at all. Dining should stay there no matter what. You haven't booked FPs yet. Memory maker should stay as yours since it sounds like you added that on.

As much as I'm willing to throw Disney IT under the bus, these are not the days from a few years ago when, for instance, we were all told our dining reservations were gone (but those of us who did nothing noticed that they came back) or the later time when peoples' dining reservations did get deleted. But neither of those times were triggered by searching for a discount.
