Discovery Cove Cabana

I'm planning to go to Discovery Cove the first week in July. Apparently all the cabanas are fully booked through August! Has anyone ever been able to get a Cabana after they were fully booked??? I called Discovery Cove and they said to check in the morning, but it is unlikely there will be any.

Are there shady spots at Discovery Cove without a Cabana? We are fair skinned and not used to such hot and sunny weather. :) Thanks!

We have never felt that we needed a cabana at Discovery Cove - mainly because we spend so much of the day in the water. We tend to move from location to location throughout the day - not really having any one "home base". Having said that, when I do want to get out of the water and relax for a bit, my favorite place to do so is in the corner "behind" The Grand Reef - there are a number of chairs here with nearby trees and also quite a few umbrellas.

Thank you for that info, it makes me feel much better! I will take your advice and try to grab that behind the Grand Reef chairs!

There are plenty of places to stay out of the sun if you can't get a cabana- the last two times I went a cabana-it was wonderful! I would get one again if it was available.

You will be able to find shade. I wouldn't worry. Plus, there is so much to enjoy you may not want to spend time lounging anyway.

However, the cabanas were all booked for our first trip Labor Day 2014. I was so disappointed. My husband called probably once a week or every other week from the time they said none available until we got there....very kindly inquiring. They said ask the morning we arrived. So we got there early for registration. He asked....and they had one available AND remembered him and his phone calls (in a good way). I feel like they maybe had one set aside in case "big wigs" came in....and none did...plus remembered my husband's kind persistence. We did have a dolphin buoy/celebration/photo package booked so I don't know if that helped our case or not.

There is also an "egg chair" (for lack of a better term)....only saw one of them the whole time we were there....by the grand reef....so take a right as you enter the park. It was a couch but had a wicker dome like a 70s egg chair. It was kind of like a mini cabana. If you follow the sidewalk to the grand reef cabanas, you pass it. The sand and all chairs will be on your left as you follow the sidewalk. You could snag that if you get there early. You might have to throw something onto it while you are standing on the sidewalk in order to save it. I can't remember if you can access it directly from the sidewalk or if you have to enter the beach chair areas to be able to get to it. I wish I had a photo.

We had no issues last time we went, and I am extremely pale/burn very easily. We spent probbably 90% of our time in the water, and the rest either in the aviary or eating breakfast and lunch. Lol. We never did use the lounge chairs for anything but a place to set our snorkels and towels while we swam.
