BA companion flights

hello

Looking at ways to save cash for our August 2018 trips. If I pay the balance on the Disney hotel now on my BA credit card we can get a companion flies free voucher. (Well just taxes).

We will be flying last 2 weeks of August as now tied to school holidays.

I was just wondering if anyone had any experiences of using these vouchers and particularly in school holidays? Will book flights as soon as they come up but don't know the limitations on availability of these vouchers

We are flying on 8 and back on 31 August on a companion voucher. The issue for us was that we couldn't pay cash for the other flight, it had to be paid with Avios points. In the end we had to purchase the points to fulfill the flight cost.

They have pretty good availability in the holidays and they will allow you to book the out part of the flight before the returns are available. So you can secure your seats. We paid for the outbound taxes when we booked, however, the cost of the return taxes has taken forever to be charged, as we added the return flight at a later date. We only got these costs about 2 weeks ago after constantly chasing them.

I remember that they issued the companion voucher as soon as we hit the spend target, and then you have a year to fly on them. But you may want to check the dates and any restrictions to ensure you can use them within the time limits.

Great thanks for that info , reallly useful. I m new to this, do I phone up avios to book then? Did you book the day of release?

We were new to this when we booked so we did it by phone after checking there was availability on line. The reason we did this was because we wanted to check that we could book the return later on. I believe you can book on line though.

We did book on the release date.

I've had a number of companion tickets and they are really useful BA match the class you fly so I've had two 1st class to LA and a number of Business class to Orlando. There seems to be plenty available even at short notice. I've always booked online via BA.com only condition you have to pay taxes with the card you earn the companion voucher with

You have two years from issue date to use it. I just lost mine from two years ago :-(. But then just received this years

I think the length of time you have to spend it depends on the type of credit card you have. We have the standard non fee AMEX card and we only had a year to spend it.

Just to clarify I can phone and book the first leg on release day and then they honour the voucher for the return when you get round to booking it?

anybody know what number you call to arrange /enquire. can't seem to find it online and need to speak to them. it's for 4 of us so would I book to for 2 using voucher and avios then do the other 2 normally (I don't have enough for all 4)
