Official 2017 HHN-27 Thread

Just got back from a wonderful trip to US and enjoyed two nights of HHN.

Booked a non-private RIP tour on 9/21/17. Worth every penny. We book the non-private RIP tour every year we go. This year was even better, did not go last year.
1-New for us was the check in location, Cafe LaBamba. We had some really good appetizers and a nice tables to sit and get to know your fellow RIP'ers.
2-Fantastic guide as always. She was great!
3-Front of the line for every house. Allowed us to see everything and know what we liked for our second HHN night.
4-Nice walk through the scare zones. Not much time spent in these areas, but plenty of time after the tour to go on your own.
5-Front of the line for two rides, Men in Black and Transformers.
6-Reserved seats for Bill and Ted. I thought the show was really good this year, much better than two years ago.

I thought the houses were great! Favorites of mine, Blum House, American Horror Story and the Scarecrow one!!

Went back to HHN on 9/23/17. I knew Sat would be crowded and it was. Got in Early for AP holders and was able to do all the houses we wanted to see again. We did buy an Express Pass, which allowed us to see our favorite houses a second time that night. It was very crowded and the lines were big, so the Express was a must for us. DH is impatient and does not like lines. We were able to really enjoy the scare zones. The Alien one was just weird.

What a great HHN this year, loved it!

Last night was busy again.

Enjoyed the scare zone trick r treat the most. Festival of the deadliest is a good one for effects although not understanding the pole dance thing.

Dead Waters is the stand out house for us this year. Amazing! Followed by AHS, Shining and Scarecrow. The rest we could take or leave.

Bull and Ted, sorry if you love it but we didn't think it was any better this year. One funny joke maybe........and we do get the references and know Bill and Ted style for many years.......just don't think it's been funny for years.

Overall, disappointed. And I hate saying that as we adore HHN and have done for 10 years.

TM have been saying the same thing as friends and I have talked about......if it's your first HHN visit, it may impress you.......but if you've been going for years it may disappoint. Not everyone of course........but generally speaking.

We'll go back for a couple of hours Friday and maybe Thursday, but if something better comes along I would do it.

But, I hope everyone who hasn't been yet loves it!

Will do a full review when I'm home and have more time.

not understanding the pole dance thing.

Yeah - I did not mind it...but I do see your point - not sure what they were thinking of there.
Having that going did cause some issues that I saw as well - not for the dancers but for the SAs

The space zone was pretty lame IMO - the costumes were good but that was about it.
The clowns were a lot of fun if you hung around and watched...I dont want to give anything away - I recognized several of them from previous years and they knew where to hide and what to do to get reactions
Purge was fun..but it's been done before and there were some issues with the tone at least one of the nights that really put me off (the crowd not the SA)

There were also just too many kids and groups of tweens...I dont get the parents that force their kids to go - i saw more than one flipping out - and they were just at the Altars.
the tweens running and screaming almost knocked me down more than once....it was a bit out of hand

Totally agree - I will just do one long weekend next year ..cant see hanging around during the week to get in two weekends - doing thu-sun night would be enough if it's like this

Can't wait to read the trippie when you return!

Agree with everything you said. Dead Waters is the stand out for me this year.

After spending Friday night in the Finnegan's holding area (I didn't realize how big it is now) I remember why I like Springfield so much better.

But...all the houses are done so I won't be doing Stay & Scream any more this year...just not worth it until it cools down.

It was great running into you two last night on my way out...didn't expect it.

Hopefully we can hang out once more before you leave. :)

You would have to be a fan to enjoy that show and I'm not a fan. I'm glad you enjoyed it but I am thrilled it's ending after this year.

It was good up until about the last 2-3 years. Last few years have just lacked

Thought I would share my list of houses since everyone has different favorites.

1. Dead Waters - theming was out of this world! Great scares and fun with the floor tilting...not expected.

2. AHS - liked the house very much even though those seasons of the show weren't my favorites. everything was detailed and on subject.

3. The Shining - my favorite horror film but disappointingly not my favorite house. Just not enough characters to make for a good house. I really wanted to love this one but it aint happening.

4. Scarecrow - liked it much better Sunday night than before. Great theming and some pretty good scares.

5. Hive - had some good scares and the sets were impeccably done.

6. The Fallen - nice idea but not very good execution...another vampire house that falls short. Just not enough scares to make it really scary.

7. Blumhouse - liked it better the 2nd time but I still think it's too short. waits can be really bad depending on when Bill & Ted's lets out.

8. Ash vs. Evil Dead - just silly...and has the longest queue in history. I won't do this one again.

9. Saw - I liked the first couple of movies but the house needs more scareactors in it. Just not enough scares to make it worthwhile.

Hi all: enjoying everyone's reports. :-) What priority order would you recommend for someone who just has 1 night (w/express) but who hasn't seen (and won't have time to see) any of the films/series some of the houses are based upon, other than Shining?

If I have to skip 1-2, would rather skip the ones that are most reliant on knowing the characters.

You should be able to do all the houses with Express. However...if you want to skip 1 or 2 houses I would suggest Ash vs. Evil Dead and/or Saw...both are really weak...IMHO.

Agree with Metro West, I would personally skip Ash vs. Evil dead. I just don't get it, thought it was super lame and not worth a wait. The wait was always long for this one, so some people must like it, just not me.

I thought Saw was ok, just ok. I totally forgot about it when I did a review above.

AHS seemed to have longer waits, totally worth it for me. I did this house early and then again with my Express Pass.

Trick or Treat was just awesome, and I can't believe I am saying this but the Purge was good for interaction. The rest just didn't do it for me like the scare zones last year did. I still loved it but last year was better. The houses on the other hand I really liked. Dead Waters was so, so well done. Being that we frequent NOLA alot we loved that one. Just great! I also love The Shining and Fallen. The flying dude......WHAT! That was crazy. For the jump scares, Scarecrow won the award, and the set was cool. AHS didn't disappoint either. Those smells were intense.

I agree with you on the Bill and Ted show this year, I just didn't get alot of it! I will say that I have pulled back on social media and the news and entertainment news so it is probably just me that was lost.

Highlight of the trip was that we are now, FINALLY, AP's! Next stop is Celebration of HP!

Totally agree on the scare zones

If you are a fan of Ash vs Evil dead it was very good (not great for scares though) - but if not it probably made zero sense - and that walk was ridiculous - I did it several times and the walk was a killer.

I would say the same of Saw - you have to be a fan of the movies

Bill and Ted - a lot of it was funny if you new what they were referencing - but there were lots of folks around me that had no clue and were wondering why I was laughing

SHould we get Express Passes? Last year we did and although it was cool to have team, I feel like we could have done 2 -3 a night and been fine.

Looking for some input on whether or not we should get back in the HHN game.

Quick background - I went to every HHN from HHN13-19. Haven't been back since. After HHN 19 I kind of had my fill of the event. I guess I couldn't justify the almost $200 ticket (with Express) anymore, as I felt the event had grown stale.

Fast forward to now, and DW and I are considering giving HHN another go. I know the negatives haven't changed - $, crowds, $....But to the all important and highly subjective question, Is this year a good year to jump back in? Would you plunk down $600 for this years iteration? - 2 saturday tickets, 2 express passes, parking, meals, drinks....

Thanks in advance for your input!

I think so...I won't do HHN w/o EPs. As busy as it was Sunday night (and it's only going to get busier) the most we waited for was 30 minutes for Blumhouse and that's not one of the better houses.

I haven't gone yet (not leaving until Oct 10th) but it feels like last year was much better than this year. Chance and the selection of houses were awesome and I knew it would be hard to top.

For those that attended last year and this, how would rate or compare the 2?

I've been going since 2004 and they all kind of run together for me. I mean...I remember houses that I liked but nothing really stands out. I didn't care for Chance last year and there is no icon this year...doesn't really bother me. I think the houses are as good as last year and the scarezones are disappointing...just like last year but that's nothing new.

I'm starting to get very excited for my trip. I will be there over Halloween, so I'm going to get a frequent fear pass that will cover Sunday, Monday, Tuesday (Halloween) and then the following Friday.

Does Halloween sell out when it's on a weekday like this year?

I'm slowly working my way through all the movies and tv shows.

I re-watched the Shining (which I'm not entirely sure I ever saw in it's entirety), Evil Dead (the original), The Purge, Trick r Treat and the pilot of Ash versus the Evil Dead.

...I still have the other 2 Purges left to go. I thought it would take longer to get through all these. I might have time to watch more Ash versus the evil dead.

I'm not sure I'm even worried about making a house touring plan or anything, since we'll have so many nights.
