Hanging up my running shoes

I LOVE vacation planning!!! Sometimes, I like it more than the actual vacation. LOL!

Me too!!! It's like I'm on semi-vacation for months leading up to the real thing!

UMMMM I'll take your son's spot!! Adopt me!

That room looks amazing!! Is that Royal Caribbean?

We can sneak you aboard!!

It is Royal Caribbean. It's the Liberty of the Seas. The biggest ship we've sailed on and a full 7-days this time. We are stopping in Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Jamaica.

Zelly, this is SO exciting!!!! I am right there with you on the who-is-going / who-is-not / how does this change our plans stuff! Last year for marathon weekend, we had five people arriving at WDW on three different days - magical express was very confused! I don't even know what to say about that room - absolutely spectacular!

There are some youtube videos out there on these rooms too, and I've watched them about a million times. :D

I'm honestly bummed out that my son doesn't want to go. I guess just the process of him growing up or something. The room actually holds 6, so even with the bigger cost, part of me hopes he changes his mind and we could add him back on, but he seems pretty set on staying home. Still we'll love it regardless!

OMG THAT LOOKS AMAZING!!!! I've never done a cruise but that hasn't stopped me from reading a million cruise TRs. Really looking forward to hearing about your adventure.

And if you are smuggling on Ariel, you might as well take me too. Just sayin

That's great to have the option of adding him back!! For marathon weekend this year, it was actually four separate arrival days for five of us - @mateojr and I were the only two traveling together - I forgot about our last-minute changes! I was so happy to have the flexibility to change/add. Fingers crossed for you!

Cruising is SO AWESOME!! I have never sailed RCI (Mr. Ariel484 will only cruise DCL, which - I'm not mad about it), but seriously. Cruising is the best!

Ok... to echo what everyone else is saying (and you know)... that room is incredible!!! I've only been on 1 cruise (Alaska 2015) and we've shied away from it since then, but this is making me re-think!

I remember not going with my parents on a trip when I was about your son's age and now totally regret it, but that's part of maturing.

Also, I don't think I commented on your long run... that is really impressive. I "seriously can't even" with the heat and am not sure I would have attempted it! You rock!

Oh my gosh that room!!!:love: You guys are going to have such an amazing time!! I had such a great time on our RCL cruise this past February. I think they do a great job. And I'm so on board with giving experiences rather than "things" for Christmas gifts. I've been trying to move towards that each year.

Okay, a few thoughts ...

A) Long runs are so weather-dependent, which makes them super rough. If the weather is brutal (like it seemed like it was for this long run), what should be a manageable run becomes almost impossible. But assuming the weather is decent for the race (which hopefully it should be), I think a sub-5:00 marathon is definitely within reach. If you ever feel yourself doubting that, remember that awesome half marathon from a few weeks ago. You are capable of so much more than you realize sometimes!

B) Yay taper time!!

C) I like any post that starts with The Go-Go's

D) That cruise room sounds amazing. It's like a luxury hotel room but on a ship. OMG. I'd say that room is definitely worth going a little easy on the christmas gifts.

My husband and I used to cruise the Caribbean once or twice a year. We've recently branched out to see/experience new things and I miss the cruising. Maybe end of next year we'll make our return.

I really LOVE cruising. I know not everybody is a fan, but for me it's just a perfect relaxation vacation.

I'm glad to have the option to add him, although he seems pretty satisfied with his decision. I'm glad you had flexibility to change too.

It is the best, right? We've not done Disney and I'm sure we'd love that even more. This will be our first time on RCI. We've done Princess and Carnival in the past. The ship this time is much larger than we've done before and has a lot of activities, so I think we'll really enjoy it.

I just love that on a cruise I can choose to either be active or utterly lazy or just a nice combination of all of that. The planning can be really minimal too if you just want to go with the flow (which is NOT my character usually). Best of all worlds I think. And thank you about the long run. It was an ugly one, but it's always good to get it behind me and thankfully the weather has cooled down considerably since and it's looking promising for race weekend.

I have a friend who has done RCI and really loved it, so I'm hoping for the best. And, yes on experiences for Christmas. My kids have more "stuff" than they know what to do with. Even when you ask them what they want for Christmas they sometimes have a hard time coming up with things. They are very spoiled in many respects.

A) So right that I need to remain focused on what I can and HAVE done and not on any particular tough run. Good reminder! Thank you.
B) Love and hate taper time. ;)
C) Man, I do love the Go-Gos.
D) I keep going back and looking at pictures of that room. I might be obsessing a bit about it.

I have a dream cruise in mind after we retire that's a two week Mediterranean cruise that starts in Barcelona and ends in Venice. One day!!!

I was thinking about sushi and then you went and sprung that room on us...dang gurl!

LOL. Sushi and a great cruise room. Best journal entries ever. :D

Training report 10/15 - 10/21

This week begins our official taper into our local marathon race. YAY!!

Sunday 10/15 - Rest after that brutal long run. Of course on Sunday the temps dropped way off and it was cloudy. Why couldn't we have had this weather for the long run instead? Good news was that while my legs were a bit tired and sore, they really weren't too bad given the run we'd just had.
Monday 10/16 - Track work. We finished off our 800m repeats, so now jump to 1 mile repeats run at our marathon pace. So, that's supposed to be an 11:20 m/m. We started with our cadence drills and acceleration gliders. My legs protested some at first, but they warmed up pretty quickly. The one mile run was at a pretty easy pace obviously, although we still ended up way too fast. I think we were around a 10:45 pace or so on the mile, but whatever, it felt like an easy pace, so we just didn't worry about it much.

Tuesday 10/17 - 6 mile run with 2:00/:30 intervals. Overall pace 10:15. We went ahead and ran 6.2 in honor of @roxymama 's goal-crushing 10k from the weekend!! Felt good on this one. Finally some cooler temps. Heavenly.

Wednesday 10/18 - Rest day. Chris is getting back to his weight lifting. I really need to start doing that again. Sigh.
pug+workout

Thursday 10/19 - 6 mile run with 2:00-:30 intervals. Overall pace 10:23. Nothing special here. Good solid run.
Friday 10/20 - Rest day.
Saturday 10/21 - 8 mile run with Galloway group. :90/:30 intervals. We were cruising along doing well and I think running around a 10:20 or so overall, but the last mile or so one of our group members was having trouble. He's a man in his 60s who is a rock star, but he starting having some shortness of breath and chest tightness last week. EEK! He got checked out and no concerns from a cardiac standpoint really (some minor blockage, but nothing that would require intervention right now or risk of heart attack) so he was cleared to keep running. But, he's still fighting the symptoms. It's very worrisome. So, I and another lady in the group slowed up some with him and finished out the mileage. We ended up slightly over at 8.3 miles and overall pace of 10:42. This was a good run and I felt strong and the pace was very comfortable, so it was nice to have this one after the difficult run last week. What a difference 20 degrees makes.

So, that's about it, but to finish out my dog centric post, I gave our dogs baths this weekend, and somebody was feeling pretty saucy after her bath!
