Hall of president solution

This thread is fascinating in revealing the two different camps of:

"I won't watch this because I object"

versus

"You can't watch this because I object"

My friend, I really hope you're pulling my leg here.

We aren't supposed to talk politics but .... in relation to current situation.

"I won't watch this because I object" .... would be said by someone against T who will not enter the theater if he is there.

"You can't watch this because I object" .... would be said by someone against T who would disrupt the show for others, or want the show changed so that he can't speak, or want the show closed for no other reason than their politics.

I don't see either of these statements applying to T supporters ... so no pulling your leg, I see both statements only applying to non-T supporters. Maybe I missed something ....

And I stand by my opinion that these are the far outliers, and most folks fall in the middle on this attraction.

Fair enough - thank you for the response.

Never been on the attraction but don't think it's main appeal is to overseas guest.

Although I do think it's strange as it's in Liberty Square area that is supposed to be "ye olde times", why they have any modern presidents in there.

Might be good to have the founding fathers telling people how the country was formed - you can even do a bit of Brit bashing and have an evil King George III! As I speak for everyone over here lol, :rotfl: honestly us Brits won't mind - (well as long he's in the same vain as other British Villains like Tom Hiddleston's - Loki or Alan Rickman - More Hans Gruber than Snape or my favorite Jeremy Irons - think Scar - My goodness we do produce some good bad guys :thumbsup2)

They could put in a performance of the hit musical Hamilton. There's only a few un-Disney like words...

Hope this doesn't get me banned, but how about
You opened for the left.
Now open for the right.
Come on Disney.
Do what's right.

Don't make this out to be a persecution of the right. They updated it and included every Republican president before. The fact that the current president is Republican has nothing to do with it.

I think that perhaps it is time for a change. I've never been one for idolizing individuals. Human beings are flawed, and even our greatest politicians had some big ones (ie. owning slaves). Glorifying them is not something that appeals to me.

I really like the idea of taking the Muppets show indoors and expanding on it.

I think what they would have to do is announce in advance that the current president (current at whatever time it is announce that is) will be the last current president to speak and after the next election a change will be made to only past presidents speaking (just Lincoln, Lincoln and Washington, etc). Doing it after the election looks, rightly or wrongly, like a slight of the sitting president. That will always annoy roughly half of the voting population.

I think this grossly exaggerates how many people in the country care anything about anything Disney does. We here are in a Disney bubble of people closely attuned to all things Disney. Most of the country is not like this. I am a Disney lover, making regular visits since 1997. I have been to HOP exactly once...in 1997. Lets face it - its a snore, no matter who is talking. And I love history! For example, I'd never miss a visit to American Adventure.

I suspect Hilary would have been up and running by now- no issue, despite the very significant controversies and alleged goings on there. I am from outside USA so it is interesting to see this. I know Disney is perceived as a liberal organisation - do you think it is purposely not opening Trump in HOP to serve its own agenda?

Edit- I just read Disney Parks Blog who say that despite reports to the contrary, it is opening with Trump in late 2017, so I will be able to see it next year.

Edit 2- I just read the article on Disney Tourist Blog that suggests Iger is having an influence. Anyway I keep my fingers crossed as I have always enjoyed the attraction, haven't seen it in many years, and was really looking forward to the Donald animatronic as, let us face it, the Obama one looks nothing like him so I was hoping they'd get the new tech on it.

Hamilton these days is like Frozen these days - SOOOO over it, it is SOOOOOO omnipresent! (Sorry if you happen to like it, just sayin' - TOTAL oversaturation!)

Well, except for the people that really like the Hall of Presidents ...

But I do think the best solution is to change up the show big time now. You will have some backlash from the Trump supporters but it will be like pulling a bandaid and then you are done - rather than potentially have to deal with it again the next time there is a controversial president

Personally I would love if Lincoln talked and then asked "does anyone else want to say anything?" And then 2-3 other presidents talk - but it is randomized so each showing is a bit different

That would certainly keep the show fresh all the time if the speaking animatrons are randomized, except for Lincoln and maybe JFK or FDR, that way you have at least one speaker from each major party. JFK cold give his "Ask Not" speech, or FDR could give his "the only thing we have to fear" speech, alternating between them.

I think I'd rather them go with JFK's famous Yale speech than the inaugural since that's in the American Adventure.

(A) Probably but I don't think it has anything at all to do with politics or parties or Disney leaning ... never been an issue before with adding Presidents of either party. I don't believe there is any political agenda here.

(B) Is that from the June Parks Blog post? That is outdated. I believe that date is out the window. I think some on the ground CMs are just saying 2018, the website now has NO DATE or time frame and I don't think Disney has said anything officially. It only says "The Hall of Presidents is currently closed for refurbishment."

(C) Well, Iger would get the final say so if it traveled that far up the ranks and if there was a non-technical reason to not open. His job is to do what is best for Disney & Magic Kingdom. Whether that is operations, finances, security .... that is what their focus has to be on.

I have only ever seen the show once due to either it being closed on my trips or my group not wanting to go. The one time we went one guy started making anti-Obama jokes while still in the lobby and a few people laughed. In the show, he started up again and his comments began to cross the line. Everyone ignored him. Once Obama was introduced he began booing, but most of the crowd, including some that were laughing at his comments earlier, clapped and the guy stopped. To be honest, it made me not want to see the show again and probably wouldn’t want to take small children. Behavior like that, while free speech, isn’t something I want to deal with at a Disney park.

I think they should just introduce the same rule they use for postage stamps: an honor only awarded posthumously.

Remember that Walt Disney had the concept for the Hall of Presidents as soon as audio-animatronics could mimic humans in the 1960s. He never foresaw the day when people would disrespect the dignity of such a performance no matter their personal feeling about who may be in the White House at the time.
