Disney Magic 12 nt. British Isles Cruise 2017

Oh how I Wish We were leaving a port right now. These pics really bring it all back. Best cruise ever!

Me too! This cruise will be a very tough act to follow. (btw somebody's got to make a decision about Bermuda here)

If I remember correctly, I believe it was set up just like lunch... get a tray, grab some food and find a table. Food was very delicious and worth a try.

Really good to know. Thanks. This will probably be offered again in Greenock for 2018 since it takes so long to get to Edinburgh from there.
Wish we had checked it out.

Day 1 sails away……....

(our weather July 9, 2017 – sunny high 77 °F / 25 °C)
(weather Sept 2, 2017 – clear high 64 °F / 17 °C)

They say on a clear day, you can see France from here.

Well we were looking....... we were really looking.

And once that All Aboard sounds at 4pm - “day of cruise” begins to fly by.

Everything's in motion:

Luggage delivery

Mandatory lifeboat drill – 4:15 pm

Adventures Away Deck Party – 4:45 pm

View attachment 288124

Port departure – 5:00 pm est. (actual time 5:45pm)

And that’s just before dinner.

We still had to unpack, get organized, prep for tomorrow and check out all the fun happening tonight.

Most Disney cruisers have a list of “must do's” and port departure is one of ours.

JQ and I love hanging up on deck

watching the lines drop as we gradually cruise out to sea

Sailing out of Dover was just incredibly beautiful.

What a great feeling - with all the anticipation of what lies ahead

As the White Cliffs slowly fade away in the backdrop.
(I can still hear Clayton’s voice welcoming us aboard like it was yesterday)

And we’re off!
Spotted the back of DH head and part of mine in the lifeboat still pick...we were a few rows ahead of you!

Completely agree tough act to follow and best cruise ever! I know our 5 night will be fun, but I am sure I will be reliving our British Isles cruise while back onboard. We are on the same deck, but a few cabins down.

Really? That's excellent. We were deck 2 (I can't remember the letter - A or B) Walt Disney Theatre. We you guys deck 2 or 1? Wow I'm glad to know we were in the same drill.

This is the only other picture I have. But if you weren't on the isle, it cuts everyone out completely.

If we keep the Bermuda cruise it'll be 5 nts as well and number 10 which will earn us platinum. After tonight it looks like a go. But I feel the same as you. It'll be fun, just not the same as this one. At least you've got 2019 in the planning stages. Hopefully we will be Europe bound that year as well.

That's awesome. I hope we see more of you guys in the days to come!! What's funny is that I took that pic to show the side railing in the theatre. It's mainly for my parents, if they ever cruise again. My father especially would need to hold on to something to get to the lower seats. The railings aren't that visible with everyone in front of you as you first enter the theatre but they are there.

We were midship Deck 1.

I just checked our ID card and it's designating A - so both midship decks 1 and 2 were assigned muster station A. Good to know. The theatre seating was a welcome change for us compared to standing at assembly on deck 4.

Ugh, we are always stuck on deck 4 for the muster drill.... you guys were lucky

It was so nice sitting in those comfy chairs. But I have no idea how that area leads to a lifeboat. At least Deck 4 gives the complete visual.

There is a thread somewhere here on disboards that shows Muster station by stateroom number.

I'll have to find it and check if my stateroom is already listed. thanks

And unfortunately the cruise clock shifts in reverse from this moment forward. (just put that right out your head)
We’ve got 12 days left. Dinner’s not til 8:30pm. Let’s do something.

"Food and Fun: a guys guide to cruising" – as written by the men in my family………
(you will see many chapters of this throughout the trip)

Their picks for tonight:

cruise navigator night1.jpg

Of course. Bingo, Dinner, Magic Quest and the physical comedy of Pete Matthews.

Let’s do it!

We’d been at this since 6am. No question Embarkation day will easily beat the last two 17 hour days we just had.

Not to mention losing an hour to France tonight.

Crazy!

So Forget sleep. You’re cruisin’ the British Isles!

JQ and IM love a chance to win some money and head straight to Bingo.

DSC02969.JPG

Cost tonight for the family pak = $80.00 for these 2 big spenders which was the highest pricing tier for tonight’s segment.

No, they didn’t win – but that's ok. Iron Man won the 5k mega jackpot all to himself on the Dream in 2013 and has been a lifetime fan ever since.

Well, despite no repeat of that lucky win tonight, we had a really great time. And I’m sure DCL was happy to recoup some of IM’s past winnings. Too funny!

Here’s our favorite part of bingo. Gotta love Tim! (taken on July 12 - At Sea)

The entertainment crew was fantastic on this cruise!! (pic also from July 12 - At Sea)

DSC01372.JPG

Magic Quest - hosted by David (who is awesome as well) - drew a big crowd tonight, So fun!

Oh and go see Pete Matthews! I hope they book him again next year.
He is incredibly gifted and talented and was Hilarious.

What’s next??

Of course - Time for dinner. OMG already!?!
(feels like we just had lunch)

I love Bingo! Actually the thing my husband and I really miss on a Disney Cruise is the Casino, so Bingo is the next best thing. We played almost every single session. I think we only missed one. Tim was great and entertaining! I love how the avid Bingo players on the ship can have inside jokes and camaraderie based solely on going to Bingo all the time. (BTW, I always voted that Tim looked more like Maui than Hei Hei, because I would have felt bad otherwise. LOL!!!)

Your first official day at sea looks fun. David was a hilarious host when I sailed the Magic over Christmas. I can't wait to read about your day in France, I hope Disney decides to go back there on their future cruises.

We <3 bingo too! Mom won a little on this trip but certainly not enough to recoup our spending on it...oh well, easy come easy go :)

Well we were definitely in there playing right along with you guys a few times. I love how the families all join in. No age limits and the kids really have a ton of fun.

oh and You were way too kind - Tim definitely did not look more like Maui :rotfl:

Thanks. yes, it was a jam packed first day on the ship and we definitely made the most of it. Good to know David was there over Christmas. He's really a great host and we were lucky to have him. Iron Man spent many a night hanging out with David and a group of adults his age closing the place down on this cruise. We never saw him after the first couple of days.

France is coming up next so stay tuned. I hope Disney returns there in the future and you get the chance to cruise this part of Europe soon.

oh and Congrats on your engagement! Just saw you started a trip report. What exciting news! I'll be checking in to follow along.

David was hilarious!! We played almost every trivia game and when he hosted them, we left the venue with aching bellies due to excessive laughter.

I should have played trivia but we're so bad at it and there are cruise vets who easily run the table. JQ has enough trouble keeping the princesses straight! too funny.
Totally agree about David. He kicked the first night off with that hilarious segment of Magic Quest and it just kept getting better and better. Omg. I'm smiling just talking about it now. I hope we get to cruise with him again. What a talent!!

We really love it too. It's a good time and a lot of fun. How great for your mom! That's always my goal - to win a little back to play with.

FYI - Today starts the Winter Solstice coverage. Any Dublin cruisers next year interested in Newgrange - @BadPinkTink started a thread over at the community board discussing the importance of the Winter Solstice and how for a brief moment this one time every year, it illuminates the tomb at that sacred site. https://www.disboards.com/threads/t...-year-old-annual-event.3653552/#post-58584957

There's a live feed on youtube that began onsite to showcase this event. check it out: https://www.irelandsancienteast.com/wintersolstice/

this is the direct youtube link: start at the 1hr:03 mark to the end to see some excellent footage with full artificial lighting set up inside the tomb - a very rare captured video event!!!
