Who's looking forward to new Toy Story Land?

While I wouldn't say I'm excited, I am looking forward to seeing it. I have no dog in the hunt as I don't have any little ones so I don't see us spending much time there after the first visit to just see it. We rarely even step foot in Fantasyland at MK now except to walk through it to get to tomorrowland.

YES! My family's favorite character interactions have been with Buzz and the Green Army Men. Toy Story is whimsical, with an element of nostalgia for adults and straight up fun for kids. It doesn't have to be cutting edge to be amusing. I can't imagine anyone walking through there without smiling.

Funny in that I disagree with every point the author makes, other than the last one as I do think it being sandwiched between Pandora and Galaxy's Edge make it feel a bit like a "holding pattern". As to #1, I've seen a TON of advertisement for it and there have been multiple spots on Good Morning America, etc. As for budget cuts, everything gets budget cuts - Pandora was supposed to have 3 rides for example. As to #2, for being an area aimed more at kids I think Slinky Dog is plenty "major" enough - it's got tons of theming, and Animatronic Wheezy at the end, and two launches.

But that is what makes WDW so great - there are areas for everyone and not everyone has to be excited about everything

I am looking forward to it and have a trip planned in November because of it.

The other parks (especially Hollywood Studios) needed a "little kids" area and Toy Story Land seems to sorta fit the bill. My son (when he was 2-4 love the Toy Story movies and TSMM and Buzz Lightyear have been his favorite rides on our trips). My daughter (now 1 1/2) is liking them too (and playing with son's Buzz and Woody toys (and plushes) and I can't wait for to see them larger than life!

Just doesn't seem "enough" to wow people.

1) The two new rides have height requirements. My daughter won't be able to go on either of those rides .. probably until she is 3 or older. For an area that is "kid focused" that seems very limiting.
2) There is no (that I've seen) playground. Seems like a playground (like Honey I shrunk the Playground) would have been a good fit here to more immerse you into the "you are the size of a toy" thing.
3) No area for meet and greets? Buzz/Woody have been a permanent part of Pixar Place with an indoor meet and greet. Where are they going to be here? Are they? (Because technically human-sized Buzz/Woody/Jessie aren't to scale to the immersive "backyard" they are trying to get to. The statues are the correct scale, not the M&G characters.
4) Only two new rides .. probably could have used a 3rd attraction that was geared more towards little kids.

I think the whole "Andy's backyard" thing limited them to some great possibilities as well.
- No "real" Pizza Planet (that restaurant they used to have at DHS was just awful (though my son liked it .. because .. the arcade)
- No Al's Toy Barn place to sell Toy Story merchandise!

I think the other reason people are underwhelmed is that the Slink Dog Coaster (as we've seen it build up) ...looks like a "normal" coaster. The painted metal rails juts like you'd see at Six Flags. But I think a lot of the theming won't be seen or felt until you ride the ride.

They have announced that Buzz, Woody, and Jessie will meet in Toy Story Land - though I don't think they have said exactly where in the land they will meet, but there will be meets

Technically TSMM is the 3rd ride in the land. I do agree a play area or something would be nice, especially given both new rides have a height requirement

The original plans did call for Al's Toy Barn to sell merchandise (and I think the idea is the building would have looked like a toy version of the actual store (so think the plastic toy versions of a McDonalds or something) but that area got cut ... instead we are getting a new DVC stand so that is great! *sigh*

Cool -- I just haven't seen where in the plans they will meet. Maybe it will be outside like they meet at MK, though I would think those characters would need an indoor queue just based on demand in that area.

Hopefully they still have room to maybe add the Toy Barn at a later date. Seems like a missed opportunity to not have it -- but my guess is that Slinky Dog Dash will have a big merch store at its exit.

Merchandise area shave been a big question to me - but I am sure they will have room somewhere ... they have announced some of the merchandise that will come out (the headbands and the toy sets for the two new rides, etc.)

I'm excited. I think it will be an excellent addition. I know most people are always looking for every new addition to be "E-Ticket" level. I don't look for that. I just look for high-quality attractions (regardless of thrill level) that are well-themed and will absorb people and help thin out how the parks "feel". One of the most important elements of all new rides they add going forward, should be that they are high-capacity.

I’m from the UK and I haven’t seen anything from the preview material that has made me want to book up specifically for that. It seems geared towards very young kids, I don’t have any so I guess it just isn’t aimed at me. No problem with that, it’s just sad that Universal Studios are starting to have more appeal to me the longer they take to construct some more attractions at HS.

Toy Story has been a favorite of my daughter's since she was itty bitty so we are both looking forward to Toy Story Land

I think it will be a nice addition for kids in a park with very little at the moment to interest them, but from everything I've seen, it doesn't look like a whole lot of effort went into making it a major addition to DHS. It's almost like they said, "Let's get a couple of cheap rides that we can put next to TSMM and throw in some unused giant props left over from the All Star resorts. Good enough." Not having young kids, I'm not planning on riding either of the new rides, but that's fine. I'm just sad that I'll likely have a bear of a time trying to ride TSMM, which I've never experienced, when we go to WDW over Thanksgiving. That's fine, though. The whole park has been kind of a wash since they shut down any semblance of it being a working studio, so I'm just glad they're building new things there now.

I'm not excited at all and until Star Wars comes, HS will still be a half day park for my family. Everyone keeps saying TSL is geared towards kids and I 100% agree, which I think is a shame. The whole point of WDW is to make everything themed towards families as a whole. In reverse, I know there are things geared towards adults only, which I also am not a huge fan of. I'd like to see something original and impressive, and for me this doesn't seem like it. I am going in August and will try to give it a fair shot, but so far I am not impressed.

People keep likening it to Pandora, but there is a huge difference. People weren’t that big on Avatar as a whole so didn't give the land much thought. People in general love Toy Story, but Toy Story wasn't a different land or world like Pandora. Unless they were building a massive bedroom I don't see how it can be as immersive as Pandora or Diagon Alley for comparison. It doesn't feel like a step-up in Imagineering. I haven't seen anything that could "wow" me, Pandora did have hints that it was going to have many layers to the design of the land.

It interesting in that I see it very much geared towards families - both of the new rides have height restrictions, so not like they are going after the toddler set, and I am very much looking forward to riding Slink Dog with my kids

I am not going gaga over this or anything but I think it will be a fun land to explore and spend some time in. I do think the Slinky Dog Dash is what elevates it a bit as it is custom made for that space and provides a duel launch coaster with is pretty unique (at least for Disney)

Granted, my family already spends a full day at DHS (and usually we don't get to everything we want) so perhaps we are atypical

Honestly I'm in the "meh" side of things. It really looks like a kiddie land and I'm not excited for the two new rides. I think if I am able to go within the first year of opening, i might just look around, instead of using a fastpass or waiting online for the new rides. I still want to check it out cuz it's a new disney land but it's not something I'm super stoked about.

I understand that I am not the target market for this area, but tbh, that shouldn’t matter. I CERTAINLY wasn’t the target market for Cars Land (I was well and truly an adult when the movies came out), and yet, I found the theming so incredible (even in just the promotional material) that I got excited about it. Radiator Springs Racers is an appealing ride to multiple generations. The land is so immersive that I consistently find myself drawn to it, even if the line for RSR is prohibitive.

And the same is true for Pandora. I will admit to being one of the people really scratching my head over that choice, because the movie does nothing for me (Dances With Wolves With Blue Cat People). And then the promotional material started coming out for it, and I saw once again how immersive the theming was going to be, and I started getting excited about it.

In contrast, I grew up with the Toy Story franchise. I LOVE these characters. But when I see the plans for the land and the attractions, it leaves me a bit cold. Off-the-rack rides irritate me (I have this issue with Dinoland USA and Paradise/Pixar Pier as well). It’s hard to get excited about subpar theming and rides when we have proof that Disney can and HAS done better. And truly, I hope I am proven wrong, and I end up being thrilled.

I haven't read everyone's replies but here's mine. I'm happy pretty much anytime they add something new. I don't think anything about Toy Story Land is exciting at all but it's something different to do on the next trip. I'm sure it will be fun to see. I want to go on both rides just to say I have but I doubt either of them will be things I will want to do repeatedly or go back to on future trips but we don't have young kids. A couple of the food options at the new restaurant sound good so I want to check that out. Currently, food at DHS is pretty poor and we typically leave the park when it's time to eat so any additions are welcomed.

As of now, our next visit isn't until November but we will definitely be checking it out then. I don't expect to be wowed but I'll be happy to be wrong about that.

I keep seeing people say "off the rack rides" - but are any of the rides in Toy Story Land really "off the rack"? I know the Alien Swirling Saucer ride is a clone of Mater's at DCA, but I thought it was a new concept then so still a Disney specific ride ... and the Slinky Dog Dash was designed for that space and has two launches and an animatronic Wheezy at the end, etc. - doesn't feel "off the rack" to me

I get it for Dinoland as those are rides that are in other (non-Disney) parks quite often, just themed. But heck, Rock N Rollercoaster is literally a copy of a ride in a different themepark, just put inside a building and people seem fine with that :confused3
