Jambo! The newest AKL Information thread

I didn't see anyone else mention that if you are just looking for a quick breakfast, Sanaa now serves a QS breakfast. Not sure about mug refills there but as was mentioned you can refill mugs in the gift shop. Sanaa is table service at lunch and dinner but we usually sit in the lounge area and share small plates which makes the price more similar to a QS. I need to go catch up on your PTR! I know it is frustrating to get all the news of refurb but I am still jealous!!!

Girl, some magic just happened! Stay tuned!

Disney guest services called me about my email. She was so kind and understanding about my concerns. She said she had an offer for us, but I asked her if it was possible to be moved away from Jambo to Kidani. She told me no, but I had heard some people were offered a studio villa, and it doesn't hurt to ask. She told me they could move me away from the noise of the room refurbishment, but then she told me her offer-- a price match at Boardwalk in a garden view! Holy moly! I've never stayed there because it's always been so expensive. I am sad to say good-bye to AKL for now, but I am so amazed by this lady's very generous offer to move us. I know Boardwalk is somewhere we likely would have never been able to stay. Good luck to everyone else. Hang in there, there is hope!

A little sad for you since I love AKL so much but jumping with EXCITEMENT about your Boardwalk stay!!! That is so fantastic and now you are in short walking distance of epcot!!! :goodvibes:goodvibes

Maybe this is karma making up for your cancelled trip last year?? So so happy for you! (Still go to Sanaa though lol)

You're sweet, thank you!!!! Yes! I canceled Boma, but we are keeping Sanaa. I'm a little sad I don't get to tease my husband with "Jambo" everyday and no zebra domes, but I'm really excited, too.

I've been looking at the forecast for the next week and they have it raining every day. Will I be able to see many animals (savannah view room) if it's raining a lot? Really hoping to see giraffes.

Yes, the animals stay out in the rain. Sometimes you'll even see more of them, as it's not so hot so they'll wander more.

We were at akl in april and just as we got to our room after checkin there was a pretty intense thunderstorm. We were checking out the view from our balcony, and all of a sudden all the giraffes (2 babies and 3-4 adults) ran across the savannah together to take shelter under some trees. We've stayed at akl 5 times and never seen the giraffes run - it was so cool, and i think only happened because of the storm. You never know what you're going to see.... : )

Do you mind if I ask where you sent the email to? We are going mid august and am a little nervous about the noise too. Did they say when the renovations are starting?
Thank you!

The CM I talked to didn't seem to know much about the room renovations. She just said she didn't think it would impact guests very much. I think I read on this thread that room refurbishments are starting mid August. They are supposedly starting in the villas at Jambo. She told me she could make sure my room was away from the noise so I'm sure you could make that request. Good luck!

I just upgraded my trip from POP to AKL Kidani Village, I'm very excited we've never stayed Deluxe before!! But... I have no idea what area/room to request! We have a Deluxe Studio standard view. Any suggestions? Also do they have cots available for request? If so, would one fit in a Deluxe Studio? We have 4 adults, 2 woman on the smaller side so we could fit on the pull out but would prefer it if we could get a cot.

I just want to warn you that once you stay Deluxe, you will not want to go anywhere else again.

Regarding the refurbishments, when we were there in December last year we were told they were updating to the new TVs, etc. as a lot of the equipment and furniture in Jambo are outdated. We had to have our TV replaced twice while we were there lol

Yeah when we were there in Jan it felt dated but not scruffy. The TV Unit's being smaller will add space to the rooms!

Really? We were here in August and had a nice Samsung smart LED TV (with the real remote, not some hotel universal remote). Same on this trip, maybe the deluxe studios already had better TVs? The thing I like is easy HDMI access for watching back GoPro footage or movies from the iPad.

Thanks so much. This will be my first savannah view room. Always had standard view so really hopeful to see at least a few animals especially with morning coffee.

Ya we did not stay Villas last trip, we did club level non-dvc and we had the old TV with the huge HUGE tv holder. Those are going away with the new flat screen TV's on the wall, etc.

I'm glad you got moved there too. We have only dreamed about staying at Boardwalk so we are super excited.

The room refurbs are a big bummer for us. We go in Oct and have a 2yr old and intended afternoon naps. We are going on rented DVC points so nothing we can do
We are on rented DVC points as well. I'm still pitching a fit. I don't care how I paid to stay there. It isn't fair to close the pool to guests like this.

I know it sucks, but at least you have the Kidani pool you can go to also.

The pool bothers me a bit, but right now I’m more concerned about the room refurbs starting on the villas, which we are in, and the noise that will create while trying to get my 2 yr old down for a nap

Sorry for the dumb question, but I'm an AKL virgin :)
What is the difference between these? They show up as different categories on the booking site. I realize the room layouts are different, but are they in a different section of the resort? Or all mixed in together?
