Solo: A Star Wars Story

It's tracking for 140-170 million dollar weekend, think that includes Memorial day. Which is huge. Interesting to see if this one has any legs and how international does.

I saw Deadpool 2 did $125m which is good, but a tad below the projected $130m and a bit below what the first one did at $132.5m

Not sure if that means people are getting tired of non-event superhero type movies or if people are cooled off just to that property and it might not impact Solo all that much ... I would think people that wanted to see both would have gone this weekend to Deadpool 2

I think a lot of people are still going to Infinity War. I personally would go to Infinity War for a 3rd time before Deadpool 2. DP2 is a wait for Bluray movie for me. DW hated Deadpool. We've had our Han Solo tickets since the first day they came out and really looking forward to it.

Just checked and 7pm Infinity War show at local VIP theatre is sold out tonight.

Looking at a lot of the user comments about 99% are “the Last Jedi ruined Star Wars so I am not seeing any other Star Wars movies ever” ... still think that is a vocal minority so we shall see what really happens this coming weekend

Yea that seems way extreme to me.

Looking forward to Solo, no effect from TLD. Loved Rogue One, so crossing my fingers on Solo, which hasn't looked amazing to me yet, but will see.

Heck I am 100% going to the 3rd Trilogy as well, just hoping JJ has enough to work with and scrape together.

Likewise, Star Wars Land here I come.

I'll probably see Solo at some point, but not opening day. I've seen all eight Star Wars movies on opening day starting with the original Star Wars in 1977 but I just can't work up the interest in Solo to keep the streak alive.

At least one prominent site(box-office.com) has downgraded their projection. They did have it at one point 150 million for the 3-day but have now scaled it all the way down to 120 million.

Solo’s opening weekend doesn’t matter.

Will it make a ton next weekend? You betcha.

Will it make 500 million+ Over its run?

Yes sir.

The question is the trend since The Force Awakens. The drop off from TFA to The Loser Jedi was significant. If we see the same drop off from Rogue 1 to Solo then we should expect Solo to come in at $500-$600 million which would be a troubling sign.

Of course the SJWs will tell us $600 million is Amazing for a May movie!

If Star Wars has alienated its long-term fan base by pushing propaganda, which is what some people say, we’ll see it in Solo’s numbers.

I saw the prequels at least 10 times in the theatre. I saw The Force Awakens 21 times. I saw The Loser Jedi once and I will not watch Solo.

Are there enough people like me to make a difference? To quote Snoke “We shall see”

I think it will top $700 million when all said and done. Hopefully that will be enough for Disney to make changes

Who is Snoke? Must have been a cameo I missed along the way.
You know - the old guy in robes who trains apprentices how to use the Force. Wait, what? No, no - the OTHER old guy in robes who trains apprentices. Oh, I see - no, you've got it wrong - it's the other OTHER old guy in robes. One of the bad, old guys in robes who does that. No - not the one with a beard. He was old and in robes, but an apprentice. Yes - the one who trains an apprentice dressed all in black, who ends up killing him in his own throne room. No, no - the OTHER one who trains an apprentice dressed all in black, who ends up killing him in his own throne room. Yes, you've got it - the one that gets cut in half - no, wait, you're thinking of the bad guy in dark robes in Episode 1, but he was an apprentice and not old. Nevermind.

I'll be there to see Solo on opening night - not because I have any particular enthusiasm, but it's Thursday and I don't really have anything better to do, which seems about as good a reason as any to see it, I suppose.

Oh good. We’ve reached the SJW/“pushing propaganda” cycle of this tread.

Yawn. It’s amazing how seriously people take a movie series with talking robots and space wizards with light swords.

The Star Wars branch of Disney seems to be over-Cautious. Rather than going out and expanding the Universe/Galaxy by making entirely new content they seem to be content with riding the coattails of the previous films. That is okay I suppose if they are mostly seen as treating the old characters favorably or at least keeping them consistent with past movies. This has not been the case. At a time when the Star Wars universe should be expanding it seems to be contracting.

Just my opinion but I think Disney should clean house at Lucasfilms then walk over to Marvel Studios and say "Hey, anyone over here wanna work on Star Wars" Right now I am more likely to take the kids to see Infinity Wars again then to go see Solo. I can't wait to throw money at the Antman and the Wasp and Captain Marvel, and I am counting the days until the next Avengers. Solo? Star Wars 9? Pffffffffffftttttttttt zero interest.

It is almost like people are going into the movie theatre expecting to be "transported" to a galaxy far, far away.....

In a sense, I think that is exactly what they are trying to do. The fans that grew up and became attached to the characters in the original trilogy longed for more. But, I think this longing for "more" is borderline over-saturated.

Now if I only kept my original action figures (including the rarest Jawa, telescoping lightsaber Darth Vader, missile firing Boba-Fett and 2 different Snaggletooths), I'd be much happier; at least our dogs loved chewing on them!

But, I think this longing for "more" is borderline over-saturated.

I get the over-saturated thing but I go back to my point about Marvel. How many movies are we up to now? They don't seem to be suffering from over-saturation. Yet we have had 3 or 4 Star Wars Movies in a decade and we are wondering if we are over-saturated? They have a huge canvas/galaxy to create new places and characters if they are already worried about over-saturation then I go back to my point about cleaning house at LucasFilms.

But people criticized The Last Jedi because of the changes it made - for explicitly not playing it safe

Seems like if they take chances people complain, and if they go back to old favorites people complain

They will never make everyone happy.

They will never make everyone happy.

I am starting to realize that more and more

unrelated to the movies, but Disney related - there was a Facebook question in on Disney group I am in that said if you could change one thing what would it be

Literally there was one post that said they wished there were more Holiday Parties and then another one saying they wish there were less Holiday Parties .... just people have different wants and no way you can make everyone happy - and when it comes to things like Disney or Star Wars, people are passionate about what they want which amplifies things

Yeah it’s kind of amazing. Some people like you said hate add on events and upcharges and others can’t wait to book them. Then for movies you have people who like the direction they are going and others who hate it.

If people don't like the ending that was written for Luke, or any of these characters, they can just go back and imagine whatever they dreamed up after ROTJ was over.

Pitching a fit and crying "character assassination" when someone's story doesn't turn out as YOU want it to is just absolutely absurd to me.

I think it's ok to express an opinion on a movie. Telling people they shouldn't is just absurd to me. But to each their own I guess.
