WDW with a 10 month old - a magical trip...right?!

My DH, DS (10months at the potential time of travelling) have a very real chance of heading to WDW in Feb 2019. My husband and I have been lucky enough to go many times and know the ropes so to speak and it really is my most favourite place on Earth. It would be the second time taking our little one away but DH has some reservations. Please can you help with my 'pitch' to him in order to persuade him that we just need to get on and book?! His concerns are as follows:
1) Is there any point if our DS won't remember it?
2) Aren't we going to need an awful lot of spending money (Flights and accommodation not an issue on this occasion)?

P.S. I know that point 1 (as a massive Disney fan) is ludicrous and that point 2 can be answered by saying spending money is what you can afford but apparently these responses aren't cutting it so I could really do with some help from my fellow DISers!

Thank you!:thanks:

We took DD at about 10 months. I did a trip report I can try to link it here later.

It was a great trip, but the trip was for me and the other adults not for DD. She loved it’s a small world (still does), loved the parade and anything with music etc. I made a Shutterfly book of the trip and she looks at it all the time (still at 4). The trip was fabulous for us and I would do it again.

Spending money why would it be any different then when you went just the two of you? A few more items to purchase but I don’t think anything crazy.

The answer to spending money is that your can set a budget together and stick to it. Depending on the budget, that might impact how you eat (bring sandwiches vs. table service), what souvenirs you get, etc.

What is his real objection? Is it spending the money? Is it going to Disney AGAIN (for a not-as-much of a Disney fan)? Nothing you say will "win" the argument until you understand the real motivation behind the argument.

Thanks, your trip report would be really helpful! How wonderful that your DD still treasures that trip.

Yes, you're quite right. My DH absolutely loves Disney when he's there and can often be found almost skipping down Main Street. I don't think he enjoys the comments from those that just don't get it (often because they've never been) that come before we travel there though. That being said, it wouldn't be enough to put him off if he truly wanted to go. I can just imagine those normal comments alongside, 'But the baby's not even one!!' We're travelling in September to Mexico and people have already been very vocal about how much luck we'll need:mad:.

With regards to spending money, it's not that it'll be any different really- it's that he feels we probably shouldn't be going on holiday at all in Feb as we're already going away in Sep and I'm on maternity leave. It's actually only tickets, food, rental car and souvenirs that we would need to cover on this trip as fortunately my DBIL owns a villa at Champions Gate and we have been offered return flights as a 30th birthday present for me! It's a no-brainer for me but DH just needs the extra persuasion! I'm currently trying to do a rough estimate of how much we'd need to spend on food.

Feel free to ask me anything, I have learned a lot since then DD has been to WDW 3 times and DL once she will be 5 in July. Have have 3 tentative trips currently planned we will def go on one of them, but hopefully 2 of them.
Fantastic, thank you. We did actually go with our 8 month old niece three years ago and absolutely loved it but there were four adults on that trip and we weren't ultimately responsible for the little one- we just got the fun bits!

Also, good luck with your future planning!

This is your first child, right? The one thing I'll mention about 10 months old is that, in my limited experience, they are starting to examine the outside world. You can see the wonder on their faces when they see something new. I think this would be a beautiful age to watch your child experience the magic. I didn't bring my DD to Disney this young, but I did take her places like the zoo, trick or treating, and the state fair. The wide-eyed joy was often apparent on her face at that age.

Also, I love to go on vacations, but I don't bring up the next one unless someone asks. I don't invite as many judgemental questions that way, though I do choose to interpret what other people would view as judgemental as just interested, living vicariously, etc.

Thanks. I feel that DAK and the shows/ parades etc. would just be amazing for our little one! Surely, being able to take day trips to the Disney parks and using the pool frequently at the villa would be preferential as opposed to being confined to an all inclusive resort? I think so (on this occasion) anyway!

As to your first post with your hubby saying " is there any point, he won't remember it. "
I don't agree with people when they say that....what about birthday parties, day trips etc when children are young? Shall we not do anything with our babies/children just cause they may not remember it?

I would jump at the chance if your flights will be paid for as a gift! It'll be different cause of the little one but still amazing :)

Excellent point, thank you!

By my calculations, I think we may be looking at $100 a day for food and drink and then money for car hire, parking, tickets and souvenirs on top.

I think we just have to go for it!!

We're taking a 7 month old on Thanksgiving. People think we're mad but we know what we're doing both on the journey and in the parks.
