3500 Rental cars go up in flames at Ft. Myers airport!

Wow. Definitely one of the weirder consequences related to the pandemic. With travel pretty much stopped and the beaches closed, almost every rental car in the airport's inventory was returned at the same time, so they parked 3500 extra returned rental cars in a grass overflow field near the airport. Something caught the grass on fire, and by the time they got fire trucks out there, it was too late to stop the fire from spreading.

I saw this - amazing. We have rough plans on heading into that airport once we can to visit my folks, it's a great little airport. Very much reminds me of PBI. Wonder if we will have a issue getting a rental?

Wow! That’s crazy. The rental car market is going to be very interesting once things go back to normal. Enterprise is selling mist, if not all, of its fleet.

you shouldn’t have any problems. Rental companies will move cars as needed for supply and demand.

We didn't see the smoke here on Marco Island, but we're about 40-50 miles away. The smoke was huge and very thick and black.
