Friends want to come with but I don’t have enough points

I’ve got enough points to book two weeks in a studio, but I’d like to take another family too. I don’t have enough points for a two bedroom. Can I buy the extra points from DVC and pay cash? It’s actually cheaper to book two studios rather than a two bedroom. Would DVC let me book one studio with points and a second studio with cash, or a combination of points and cash?

Cannot "buy" from DVC enough points to do a studio for two weeks. You can purchase up to a maximum of 24 one-time-use-points from DVC for a trip that you are booking at 7-months out or less.

You could attempt to rent a room through DVC which, if there is availability, costs 75% of the going rate published by Disney for the room if reserved through Disney's central reservartions. Your other, and likely cheaper, option is to rent a reservation from another member, through a rental broker or via members posting their desire to rent on this and various other sites.

Depending where you are staying it may make sense to check the cash prices before paying for one time use points (and maybe even vs renting). We recently were going to rent for treehouse villa at ssr in Jan but promotion Disney ran got us down to ~$600 a night tax included for weekend day (vs 45 points).

And if you have an AP, check those cash rates, too.

You can look to buy points from another member. It is technically not allowed but is done. This way you would control the reservation. Another way would be to look at the rent/transfer board and see if a member is able to book a reservation for you. Or you could just look at going for one week instead of 2. It also isn't your responsibility to fund others vacations if you can't afford the points to do so. If they are willing to pay for a room then you could direct them to a DVC rental company so they could book their own room and be responsible if something falls through.

I clicked on the thread thinking this was going to be a case for addonitis where sharing a 2br could be a regular thing, but, could be reading this wrong, it doesn't sound like the other family is all that committed to WDW trips and this will be a one-and-done? In that case, I'd put them up in POP and catch up with them on the daily in the parks. Otherwise, what kinquy said - solid advice!

Hi. Did you get an email for the promotion or do I go onto Disney’s site?

Just went on the site and saw the promotion. There are people asking $17-$20 a reservation but it would be more than booking with Disney.

Thanks so much for this.

I believe it was booked through the chase visa discount that had to go through a travel agent. I can confirm with family member that worked with them for the exact details of discount we got.
