Traveling overseas with elderly dad-is it safe?

Everyone chimed in quite a bit on the actual flight, but also make sure your dad is up to the activities in the destination. Not sure where you are planning on going. If it's to rent a house someplace and relax in the countryside taking in the views that one thing. If you are planning on...

    Coin Spinoff

Yes, we save some of the coins and paper money (if it's low enough value in USD). My most unique is Italian Lira (pre-Euro). When we are out of the country, we hit the ATM every few days so we don't have an excess of cash to return home with. Maybe value of $100 USD or less, so I just keep...

What is the value for you in ABD trips?

We have only been on one ABD, the SoCal one. We did that solely for access to Henson Studios. We loved the ease of everything. A huge benefit was luggage handling. We run into issues traveling on our own and toting around luggage. We have looked at other ABD trips and will likely do another...

    Amazon Prime Household

good point. I order most gifts for my parents off Amazon and they do the same for me. So I have to disable completely or change a setting just for my orders? I guess it isn’t horrible to turn off completely, Ring notifies me when a delivery and I get annoyed when I have the alert light on Alexa...

    Amazon Prime Household

My dad's prime membership is up next month and I saw how I could just add him to my household (I don't have anyone added to my household now). I understand from what I read online is we can't see what each other purchases or get recommendations from browsing history. But we do share payment...

    Cancun Prices vs. DI$NEY

We don’t care for all inclusives. The times we have went we’ve booked excursions for almost each day. We aren’t sit by the pool/beach all day, nor are we big drinkers. Disney is our version of an all inclusive. We arrive onsite and don’t leave property for a week. We don’t get a car and take...

    Pin display tray style options

We have about 500 Disney pins. They are currently in binders and we hate that way of storage. Backs fall off, binders bulge and just putzy when new pins are added and moving the old ones around. We don’t have the wall space in our Disney room to hang on the wall. What we are thinking of...

    Southern California and Disneyland Adventure

Did it this year and Thurs night was Grad Night at California Adventure. Didn’t notice anything crazy. We met as a group maybe 430, then dinner, then WOC reserved viewing so we weren’t trying to get on rides. We were too tried to try for any rides after WOC.

what's something that you would get in your grocery shopping growing up that you wouldn't today?

TV dinners. Old style in the aluminum tray and you would bake in the oven. It was such a treat to pick out the one I wanted. This was also back in the day when there was maybe 10 total options for meals and I think only one brand, maybe Swansons.

The other benefit on what ABD gives you is that it’s not a timed pass. At least not for Our trip in 2023. They loaded them onto our tickets and we could use whenever we wanted.

How many national parks have you visited?

I have read that as well. That surprised me as I figured one of the AK ones would have hit #1. I also recall reading it was the least visited with the next one having like 4-5x the annual visitors. I think visiting American Samoa in general would be interesting so a great excuse to go visit...

How many national parks have you visited?

15 designated as National Parks and 70 total with national monument, lakeshores, etc. The NPS has a great app where you could create a list of where you’ve been. We also do the passport stamp books. It’s our goal to hit all designated NP’s. However, some are very hard to get to. A few in Alaska...

    any recent experience with United?

All airlines have issues, just the luck of draw if it affects you. I go back and forth over past 20 years of boycotting either Delta or United. Currently on Delta boycott for 2 years (10 flights). But my boycott would change for a fare half the price 😂

    Annoyed by potential travel disruptions

That sucks! I wish they'd put a waiver in the budget that the NPS sites would still be funded. All the park communities are taking such huge economic hit when the NPS in their area shuts down and there is no backpay for those businesses/workers who are out of work when there is a shutdown. We...

Quickbooks or Alternative for Personal Finance Tracking

I have been using Quicken for probably 15 years. I as well hate the annual subscription model they have now but just suck it up. It works easy. I could likely do excel as I don't import from my banks/credit cards. But it's just what I'm used to and not worth the hassle of figuring something...

    Inside a Submarine

My husband is a sub vet as well (nuke vs boomer). The smell though, after 20 years when we open a box of some of his old uniforms the smell still is strong. I was able to go on a dependen’s cruise, very interesting and scary. I didn't like to think of him that far underwater. Got to drive, fire...

    Southern California and Disneyland Adventure

Backpack made me mad too! I wanted one for each of us. A driver met us as we entered baggage claim, he grabbed our bags and put onto a cart and walked to the car. Yes tags just for transfers from Loews to Grand. I think the group viewing is a special surprise, thus why not mentioned. Yes WOC was...

    Pay off our house?

I'm also in the mindset pay off your house. Our rate was 3.875% and we paid it off about 2 years ago. We were ending year 15 on a 30 year mortgage when it was paid off. It is an amazing feeling to know we are totally debt free.

Contact Lens Wearers - overnight storage?

Thanks everyone! I ordered the Biotrue, 4 pack so I will be set for numerous trips. I'm not worried about taking it as a carry on. Just in general I have one large bag for toiletries in my suitcase and the normal size bottle of Clear Care takes up way too much space. And yes @bcla it was...

Contact Lens Wearers - overnight storage?

So I have used Clear Care for the past 30 years since I started with contacts. My contacts could be worn up to a month at a time (sleeping in them) but I usually take them out at night and clean them. So the Clear Care thing if you aren't familiar is this solution where you can't put it into...
