A DREAM come true cruise - Concierge and a Proposal! COMPLETED 2/13

Not that the woman didn't almost give it away, but having eaten at Remy three times, they've exactly who we were when we walked up twice. I suspect it does have to do with how the reservations are spaced out to some extent. However, given you were on high alert after a couple of suspicious actions, it wouldn't have mattered. Looking forward to the next installment.

That might be, it was the first time we've eaten there. But my fiance was actually at the restaurant a few times throughout the cruise planning everything and she recognized him when we walked up.

Dinner at Remy

Someone came to get us while we waited in Meridian and escorted us inside the restaurant. The lead us over to a table in the corner next to a pretty Christmas tree.

upload_2018-1-25_8-13-34.png

It was curved shaped booth that was nestled away from the rest of the restaurant.

upload_2018-1-25_8-14-13.png

I was really excited to be seated next to the Christmas tree.

The meal starts with a complimentary glass of Champagne they prepare table side called the Colette. This is named after the character from the movie.

upload_2018-1-25_8-16-36.png

The drink consists of vodka and Champagne with dried pineapple cubes and 3 Cassis Pearls.

Pretty decoration on the table. Our reservation was at 6pm and it got dark outside really quick.

The waiter was chatting with us and told me they like to do surprises for their guests and would be back in just a moment with one for me. They walked out holding a plate with one of those metal dome toppers to keep food warm on top of it. They walked over to me and presented the plate and pulled the top off to reveal a pretty dessert with a sparkly ring on top.

I honestly was really surprised that the proposal happened at the beginning of the meal, I did not see that coming at all. They pulled our table out so my fiance could get down on one knee and propose properly. I said yes! and he put the ring on my finger.

Immediately after a woman came out playing a violin and stood next to our table and played a full song just for us.

upload_2018-1-25_8-25-49.png

Admittedly, I did cry.

Then I realized they had taken the dessert away and I hadn't taken a picture! So I asked our waiter if it would be possible to bring it back so I could get a picture of how the ring was presented. They were happy to oblige.

upload_2018-1-25_8-27-13.png

I did not eat this dessert, not even sure what it was. But I found out later that my fiance had been going to the restaurant the whole cruise talking with the pastry chef on the design and presentation. He also arranged with the restaurant which table we would sit and and how everything would be done and what song the lady played on the violin. I was very impressed, since this man does not plan anything. He said he was really nervous that everything go perfectly and that I'd say yes, even though we'd talked about marriage many times already and a yes was pretty certain.

upload_2018-1-25_8-29-27.png

All our wait staff came out and applauded and chatted with us on details on our life and were all very excited for us. When he had proposed the whole restaurant had clapped for us.

upload_2018-1-25_8-30-41.png

I tried to get a picture of the pretty napkins with the R embroidered on it.

upload_2018-1-25_8-31-15.png

We were brought an amuse bouche to start before we decided on our main courses. It is a fried tomato soup square. It tasted delicious, I was there was more of it. It is the first time I had fried soup.

Dinner at Remy

Our waiter brought us the menu to look over.

upload_2018-1-25_8-33-3.png

Sorry the lighting isn't the best. So basically the menu is split in half. Half of the menu is designed by Arnaud Lallement of l'Assiette Champenoise, a Michelin two-star restaurant. The other half is designed by Victoria & Albert's Scott Hunnel. At the bottom they have an a la carte if you want to pick and choose from both sides.

upload_2018-1-25_8-35-58.png

This is the menu I went with, the french side.

upload_2018-1-25_8-36-36.png

My very new fiance! went with the American side.

I personally thought the one I picked sounded more American and his sounded more french, but what do I know.

We decided we would share each meal so we could try everything.

upload_2018-1-25_8-44-11.png

This was a palate cleanser we both got, foie gras. I didn't like this.

upload_2018-1-25_8-45-40.png

My first course was a scallop. It was really good and beautifully presented. I split it in half with my fiance.

upload_2018-1-25_8-46-29.png

His first course was langoustine. The thing in the middle is seaweed wrapped rice. This was really good, I wish I had my own plate of it.

upload_2018-1-25_8-47-51.png

My next course was ravioli in a whipped egg soupy thing. The ravioli was good, but the broth it was in I didn't really like.

For our next two courses we didn't share. I'm not a big fan of fish and he doesn't like lobster.

upload_2018-1-25_8-48-41.png

His halibut. That long tube was filled with mashed potato.

upload_2018-1-25_8-49-53.png

My main lobster. This was phenomenal.

upload_2018-1-25_8-50-40.png

It was in a lobster bisque sauce. It came with the tail and claw.

Dinner at Remy

My fiance's next course was duck. I didn't try any because I love ducks and felt bad eating one.

upload_2018-1-25_8-52-31.png

upload_2018-1-25_8-52-50.png

My next course was the beef wellington. This was really good and I was excited to try a proper beef wellington for once. I love Gordon Ramsey and watch all his shows. On Hell's Kitchen he makes this dish all the time. They have something similar in the MDR, but it just isn't that good, in my opinion. This dish was the best, made with waygu beef.

upload_2018-1-25_8-54-41.png

Here's another angle to see the meat.

upload_2018-1-25_8-55-9.png

They also brought out the sauce in this little container. They said it was Remy sized so he could pour it himself.

upload_2018-1-25_8-55-45.png

Here's a better angle to get an idea of how small this was. And if anyone hasn't seen the movie Ratatouille, Remy is a rat that's one dream in life to be a chef.

upload_2018-1-25_8-56-50.png

Here's my fiance's lamb. Those little balls in front are made from melon and were delicious as well.

upload_2018-1-25_8-57-31.png

Just like in Victoria and Albert's, they brought out a cart of cheese that they would carve for us table side. Unlike V&A, there were more cheeses than they could put on our plate and we were given the choice to choose what we wanted. Our waiter did a run through of every type, some were similar to others and he recommended we not get two of those.

upload_2018-1-25_8-59-0.png

My cheese plate. I was instructed to eat them clockwise. I'm sorry, but I don't remember what any of the cheeses were. They were all really good though.

upload_2018-1-25_9-0-3.png

My fiance's cheese plate. He tried some of the same and different from mine.

upload_2018-1-25_9-0-42.png

For dessert they brought us new, red napkins. In the background you can see my glass of gingerale. I was struggling to keep my cough down the whole meal. I think it was harder because the waiter would talk to us a long time and I had to tilt my head back to look at him. I was determined not to cough or throw up again and managed to make it through the whole dinner okay.

Dinner at Remy

I was not actually a fan of the dessert they brought. I found it too sweet and just not my taste. But I was really full from dinner anyway so it didn't really matter. I'm not a big sweets person and usually lose steam by the time dessert comes around in a meal.

upload_2018-1-25_9-3-22.png

Mine. This is not an orange. It is made from white chocolate and has a creamy middle. It was very impressive looking, though.

upload_2018-1-25_9-4-6.png

My fiance's. I liked his a little more than mine.

upload_2018-1-25_9-5-2.png

Mine cracked open.

After dinner they asked if we wanted coffee and I asked for a cappuccino. I wanted something hot for my throat and probably shouldn't have had caffeine so close to bed, looking back in hindsight.

upload_2018-1-25_9-6-0.png

But it was delicious and had a little heart in the foam.

upload_2018-1-25_9-6-40.png

They brought out some chocolate.

upload_2018-1-25_9-8-15.png

The cute little sugar container.

upload_2018-1-25_9-8-39.png

Up next they brought us two little tarts and this beautiful plate that says congratulations in French. My fiance had arranged this as well and designed the plate.

upload_2018-1-25_9-9-33.png

They packed these up for us.

upload_2018-1-25_9-9-53.png

Along with these.

upload_2018-1-25_9-10-21.png

They also gave us this box. I'm sad to say we put these in our fridge and I completely forgot all about them. I remembered when we were halfway home after the cruise and was really sad I never opened that box.

Dinner at Remy

At the beginning of the meal they had asked if we wanted champagne, but I had declined. I wasn't feeling up to drinking a lot of alcohol. So when the meal was almost over they brought over a surprise drink to congratulate us.

upload_2018-1-25_9-26-26.png

I'm not sure what it was. It was champagne mixed with raspberry something. It was delicious.

upload_2018-1-25_9-27-11.png

And the million picture taking of the ring on my hand had begun. I'm in love with this ring. He did a really good job picking it out. The only stipulation I had given him was that I wanted it to be cushion cut. I love the diamonds on the band and it really sparkles. It has almost perfect clarity.

Our dinner ended in time for us to go see Beauty and the Beast again. I loved it so much I wanted to watch it both nights. We got a seat in the back and I made it up until Gaston's song before I had a cough attack and I just couldn't last the whole show. I was really sad to leave, but I just wasn't feeling up to being out.

As we were getting back to our room, or room stewardess was walking by and I told her how we got engaged. She was so happy for us she gave me a big hug.

upload_2018-1-25_9-29-52.png

I forgot to mention he also got me a long stemmed red rose. The waiter brought it to me, but made it clear it was coming from my fiance. Our towel animal was done up like a pirate because tonight was pirates night. I wanted to go watch the fireworks, but my fiance said I wasn't well enough to go out again. I could hear them from the room.

And our first night as an engaged couple? I slept on the couch. I think this day was the worst for my sickness and I couldn't stop coughing. I didn't want to wake up my fiance so I decided to go out on the couch. I was really awake - probably from the coffee - and couldn't sleep. So I played some games on my phone and felt like I was dying. I decided to turn on my free internet and started texting everyone I knew that I was engaged.

upload_2018-1-25_9-33-25.png

I took a screenshot of the Disney app for the day.

upload_2018-1-25_9-34-10.png

Here was the forecast for the next day.

upload_2018-1-25_9-32-39.png

The picture I took at around 3am and sent to everyone and used to announce on Facebook we were engaged.

I was so tired and felt so bad. All I wanted was my nighttime medicine locked away in his trunk. I eventually passed out from exhaustion. He found me some medicine they sell on the ship, which helped a little, but they didn't have anything that could help me sleep or suppress my cough.

So I was super sick through my proposal, but it was still the most magical night of my life. He planned everything so perfectly and I am so happy.

What a wonderful memory. That dessert is beautiful! You're right, he did an amazing job.

Congratulations again.

That's probably better to do it first because then he wouldn't be so nervous during the meal!

Adorable!

OMG-that looks delicious! I always thought Remy looked fancy but I probably wouldn't like the food. But your dishes looked great and I would love them!

Brings back wonderful memories--Remy's is an exceptional experience!
It is a really great restaurant. Super impressive they can do that while in the middle of the ocean too.

Congratulations again.
Thank you :) It was an amazing night

That's probably better to do it first because then he wouldn't be so nervous during the meal!
I agree, he probably wouldn't have been able to enjoy the meal as much if he had waited.

I was having doubts before we went too. With Victoria and Albert's I've been able to tell them what I like and don't like and they have more options to choose from. I was worried there would be a lot I wouldn't like, but I was pleasantly surprised. I think it's a great place to try at least once.

Congratulations! Love the proposal. Your fiancé did an excellent job planning everything just right. perfect.

And great review of Remy. I really enjoyed all the details and photos. We haven't been to Remy in a long time. It's an excellent restaurant. I hope we get back there someday.

For our final martini we had a drink that's apparently served on the Wonder because it's called the Cadillac Martini and they have the Cadillac Lounge. Nik figured since we were docked next to the Wonder it would be a way to honor the ship.

View attachment 293919

I don't remember exactly what was in it, except it tasted like a minty cookies and cream drink. Soooo good I wish I had more than one. So clearly I have a type I like and it's not the classics.

FUN FACT
One fun fact we learned in this class was why the martini glass is shaped the way it is. During prohibition in the US when alcohol was illegal people still drank. But they needed a glass they could easily spill to get rid of the alcohol if the cops showed up. The Martini glass is shaped in a way you could quickly toss your drink and then couldn't get arrested for drinking.

This would explain why I spill my martinis so often :smooth:

One thing that I didn't like about this location was the fact people were coming in and out of a side balcony where you could smoke. It was pretty disruptive as they walked through the room in and out. I feel like they should close that balcony when a private class is in session? :confused3

Since the Wonder got there before us they left before us. We went back to our balcony to watch them sail away. Not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed no one was running to get back on the ship for either boat before sailaway. I always find it fun to watch people sprint back when they are getting back late. I've never been on a cruise that left anyone, but once on a Royal Caribbean ship in Cozumel my friend and I were in the dining room next to a window and this couple was running full speed to get back to the ship. The guy left his girlfriend and sprinted ahead and people were cheering them on. In Cozumel the dock is really long and you can see the people from really far off. Since you have to check in before getting to the long dock I'm sure the cruise was aware of them coming, but it was fun to watch.

View attachment 293922

As the wonder sailed away they did another horn battle. We didn't leave for about an hour after I think.

View attachment 293923

There was a really pretty sunset that my camera could not capture properly.

View attachment 293924

I did find it interesting these are left behind. I would have thought the cruise put them out when they docked, apparently they stay with the port.

View attachment 293925

This little truck thing picked it up and drove all over the pier with it. Not sure where he was going because he was heading towards the ocean part of the pier, not towards the main land. We sailed away before I could see where he stopped.

View attachment 293926

We stayed on the balcony as we sailed away. Here's a view of the rooms that have the bigger balcony. I booked one of these for my honeymoon cruise :)

As we were sailing away the ship was turning so we got a view of Atlantis

We went into the lounge for a drink before dinner. This is where I became a little suspicious of getting proposed to. We got our drinks and decided to head back to the room before heading to dinner. So I walk out and I thought my boyfriend was behind me. I get to the room and turn around and he's not there. Odd. So I go back into the lounge and he's over by the front desk talking to Danny. They both look at me a little startled and Danny says "We are talking about the weather." Okay? I don't think my boyfriend's ever talked about the weather before and it just struck me as a little odd. My boyfriend said he was going over plans for Castaway Cay tomorrow since he was running the 5k. Okay, makes more sense. So I go back to the room and wait for him.

I’m thinking you just don’t like martinis. Maybe just fruit juice.

Congrats!

What’s amazing about Remy is all the variety. We sailed in May on the Fantasy and other than the starters (tomatoe soup cube and foie gras) our meal was completely different. We also shared both the French and American sides and loved it.

Congratulations. Loving your trip report.
Laughed at pictures of tee shirts on CC. My husband buys a tee shirt everywhere we go and I have to fight him to recycle or throw away! He has a couple tee shirts from the 60's. I'm going to suggest pictures of tee shirts this vacation.
More, I want more of your trip report .....
