A little explanation regarding renting points

Hello All - My kids and I are looking to take a quick trip after Labor Day (2020) for a long weekend. Someone suggested that I look in to renting DVC points. I'm not sure how this works. We would be a party of 6. How do we find which resorts can accommodate our party size? How can I tell how many points are needed? Can I book a room for just 3 nights? Thanks for your help. We normally just get a room but now that they want to bring their girlfriends, we need 2-3 rooms, that's just too expensive.

I would suggest starting here for calculating costs:
https://dvcrequest.com/dvc-guests/cost-calculatorDvcstore.com also rents points and you can also do a points rental on the boards here.

Be aware that from most sources, points rentals are completely nonrefundable, no matter what. Lotta people regretted renting points when they closed the parks.

With a party of six, you’ll need a two bedroom. Or multiple studios or 1BRs. Most DVC units include a pull out couch as one of the beds, although there are exceptions.

you can find out more about the resorts and what rooms at what resorts have what accommodations here:
https://dvcrequest.com/information/dvc-resorts
and here

You can book any number of nights you want, subject to availability. Usually trying to book DVC 5 weeks out won’t work out for you, but with the pandemic, there’s actually quite good availability for Labor Day.

For six, you will need, at any DVC Resort, a 2-bedroom or at least two of anything smaller such as two studios, including because none of the studios and 1BRs allow six. As to points needed, you can find point charts on any of the rental brokers' sites or on this site: https://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-vacation-club/#points; charts show points per night for Sun through Thurs, and separately per night for Fri and Sat (the high point cost nights of the week); the weekly totals shown are simply an addition of the nightly totals. You can book a room for any number of nights as long as you can find someone with points to rent for the number of nights you want.

I would personally recommend looking at some of the DVC rental sites as I’ve heard there are literally thousands of confirmed reservations which are discounted heavily. Since your trip is so soon, you might find a great deal on a 2 bedroom for the dates you are looking for. Worth a look at least...

What exactly is the size and make up of your party? Just six persons, all one family, two adults, four kids under 18. Or what?

Wow, these come out being way too expensive. 42 pts. needed @ $17 pp = . I think I'll stick to the hotel rooms. Thanks for the information though.

6 adults; my self, 3 sons and 2 girlfriends.
Unless the sons and girlfriends are very close, you would probably need many studios or a two bedroom villa. But there would be four people in the second bedroom.

OK, my party size has changed. Now we're looking at myself, my son and his girlfriend. Would a studio work? Are we able to use the ME from the airport? Are we still able to use the buses to and from the parks? Where can I see pictures of the various DVC's?

You will fit in a studio. Will you be comfortable sharing a room with your son and his girlfriend? I know that I would feel a little awkward but everyone is different.

Yes, you can use DME. Yes, you can use Disney transportation to and from the parks.

@CastAStone provided a link to dvcrequest.com that has a lot of info about the various DVC resorts as well as pictures. That might be a good place to start.

You can go to this page https://disneyvacationclub.disney.go.com/ to see the room layouts. Go to Destinations, then Disney Vacation Club Resorts, scroll a bit down that page and select Explore all Resorts. Then find the resort you want to look at and click on the Rooms and Points tab. Each type villa will have a room layout.

Hello, I just booked a last minute getaway renting points from the timeshare store. They price I got was $15/pp. I was pleasantly surprised as I had only reached out to them as they had been great to work with in the past. Sharing as it is a solid price with a reputable company. Not sure how many points they have at that price; however, you might add it to your list of options.

If I figured right, 42 pts for the weekend.
You didn't figure it correctly. The cheapest 2BR is 28 points per night on September weekends.

Now that you're only 3 people, you can fit into a studio if you don't mind sharing a room with your son's girlfriend. There is a lot of availability at the bigger resorts starting at 26 points for the weekend. I would not pay $17 per point. There are Facebook groups where people are offering points for as little as $10-$12 per point because their points are expiring at the end of next month.

+1 on checking with them. I went with them for my 72 points I needed to dispose of, my renters paid $12 a point.
