And then it gets worse...

Someone I know was a DL CM for several years. Even after all her time and experience, she was still earning less than $11 an hour. Kinda harsh.

That's not right. Your friend in my opinion, should have been earning at that point at least $15 an hour.
Less than $11 after several years of working, is ridiculous.
Churros are $4.75 for one, so just two of them ($9.50) almost equals your friends pay!

"I've been 29 years with Disney. I only get $15.70 an hour," an unnamed full-time concierge who is living with a friend told the surveyors. "Sometimes I go without food."

Wow.

I thought the plaid's would get paid higher than that (if that's what they're referring to). Especially one that's been there for that long.

Agreed!

It's my understanding that particular position has a relatively high turnover rate. Don't have to wonder why .

I agree Disney can and should do more to compensate their employees, I do think one issue that will remain regardless is the astronomical cost of living in the LA and OC areas.

Having managed a business in the LA area for a number of years, our employees (union and compensated far better then Disney employees apparently are) still were forced, many at least, to commute and hour or more just to afford housing.

Yes, Disney should pay more.

However, no one is forcing them to stay there. Look for better work and then move on to something that can compensate you so you can live comfortably.

As a state, CA minimum wage is going up incrementally to $15/hr by the year 2022. It's currently at $11/hr.

IMO, Disney entry level pay should already be at $15/hr considering the crazy hours and working conditions.

Ah, the classic argument between free market and socialism. You're all free to donate your own money to these poor disney workers if you think its so horrible for them to get paid that in the happiest place on earth. You either remove the supply of people willing to work for low wages or you accept higher costs and less profits for companies all around which will circle around to affect you. Can't have it both ways.

Corporate America doesn't need to be greedy either.
In the days of Henry Ford, he made sure that all of his workers were paid an honest wage for honest work, in that every worker could afford to own the cars they were building. In my opinion, an employer ethic like that should be in effect for all of their workers.

When our news reported this story today, (AZ) they said Disney will be raising their ticket prices AGAIN!!! The female newscaster remarked wow, and they JUST raised their prices. I will not be shocked when Disney blames the employees for the raise in ticket prices.

Disney better damned well raise their workers wages too. Not to mention I can only imagine how many people have already become priced out.
