Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

We are not in phase 3 yet. Phase 3 officially begins June 12. They had said June 1, but that was limited phase 3 (basically, they allowed some businesses previously categorized under phase 3 to open early).

So far everything I have seen/read it is still only PART of phase 3 that is allowed to open next Friday. I have seen nothing about movie theaters, casinos and other entertainment venues that are/were part of Stage 3 being allowed. Nail salons were explicitly not included and they were also stage 3.

My take on the way Stage 3 has been going is that there will be blocks of stage 3 openings until we are actually fully in Stage 3.

The newspapers are saying casinos are opening, but I haven't heard it from the state. Maybe someone can find that somewhere?
I just looked up on Graton Casino, the largest casino in my greater area, and they are opening on June 18th.

Watch very closely to what they are doing at WDW because it is very likely to be very similar (the same) at Disneyland. As far as park hopping, I do not think that it will be allowed. You will make your reservation for the park of your choice and that is the park you are allowed to visit that day. They have to (will want to) keep much tighter reign on park numbers right now.

I actually disagree slightly, park hopping will be allowed, but it will mimic the Flex Pass in that there will be a limited set allowed to park hop, with another subset of reservations for individual parks only.

I’m not sure how individual tickets will go though, but there might be inventory controls on park hopper vs single park. DCA has come a long way, but I still don’t think it’s there yet as a true standalone.

Especially if we factor out entertainment. I could easily spend an entire day in DCA if i’m also checking out Frozen in the afternoon and WOC in the evening. I wonder if the reservation will just be for both parks? They don’t want to make it too complicated either. They have enough to worry about.

But I suppose if Avengers Campus opens (oh mighty theme park gods hear my plea) then perhaps it could standalone?

This could work as well. Your "reservation" is for both parks, so they will count you in the numbers for both parks.

I’m certain there’s a beautiful equation sitting behind the scenes that looks something like this:

DL load factor < 30%
DCA load factor < 30%

Count park hopper as 0.7 for DL, 0.3 for DCA.
Count DL as 1 for DL
Count DCA as 1 for DCA

I’m sure their park metrics show the average amount of time spent at each park, so you can give a weighted load to each while sticking to a particular maximum.

or at least I hope they do that 😆

This could work as well. Your "reservation" is for both parks, so they will count you in the numbers for both parks.

Mod request: Please cite official news articles or tweets or something (!) when you post government announcements about which stage CA is in or which stage certain counties are in. That will make it much easier for people to go back to verify the information and to find out what the post is referring to. Not everyone reading this thread is in CA or even in the U.S. And if you cannot back it up with a citation (e.g. you think you read it somewhere, but can't remember and can't find it), then don't post it yet. Thank you!

Fun speculation video from FBD. And my favorite of the comments so far from unknown source:

We have been told to get all Toy Story buses prepped and ready to go for service. Buses are currently being fueled and a secondary deep cleaning is in effect so they are nice and shiny for the reopening. They have been sitting in the yard for nearly 3 months so they need to be defueled (because LNG fuel turns into a vapor from the liquid form) prior to being refueled. This process does take time and with 45 Toy Story buses that is why we have been told to start now. All indications do point to a July opening one would think. Either way we are bring staffing back for bus preparation which is a good sign. Fresh Baked!!!

Thank you for posting this -- some of the most optimistic news I've heard today. :)

I went to ASU for college (Go devils!!). Today they released a statement saying that Fall Break is cancelled. The reason for the cancellation is to lessen students traveling. If you all know about fall time at DL, you know fall break in neighboring states bring sin heavy heavy crowds. I wonder if other colleges and districts will be doing this to lessen travel for their students? Maybe it would make the fall crowds lighter? Hmm...
Do you have the dates for when this break would have been? Thanks!

Hello, fellow Sun Devil!

That seems... crazy! I wonder if the local school districts will follow suit. My district has been (IMO) frustratingly slow to release information on their plans, and I have a (speculative) hotel (off site) that I just booked for October since I am thinking my early July trip will also be a no-go.

I do think there will still be park hoping at DL. WDW the resorts require transport in between. They are too close to not allow in my opinion

that was my initial thought, as well, but I wasn’t sure if I was missing another reason!

It will be interesting to see how they handle the reservation system for sure!

My daughter goes to a small (3000 students) university in Southern California and they just cancelled their 2 day fall break which would have been October 12 and 13.

I'm starting to think that other colleges may do this. Especially if they are doing in person classes. When this whole thing began it was during Spring Break. The original intent of many colleges and schools going virtual was because they knew people would be traveling and they didn't want them to bring back anything.

A couple casinos already opened in San Diego County. This is one: https://www.sycuan.com/about-us/covid-19-updates/
I can't remember which other one, but it opened on the same day, May 20th. The news reported that both reached capacity by 11am and had long lines of people waiting to get in.

I think they will permit park hopping. They will set the capacity numbers on each park and allow that many total reservations. If one park hits capacity, I can see them temporarily haltikg new entry until enough people exit.
