Do we need a car?

We are going to southern Ca in June. This will be our first trip. We are flying into SNA on a friday night and hope to stay around the Disney area until Sunday when we are heading to San Diego. We already have reservations at Paradise Point Resort through Friday where my husband has a business conference. We are hoping to do the zoo and Sea World while we are here. We are heading back to the Disney area Friday and will fly back out on Tuesday. We are hoping to do Disney, Universal and see Hollywood. As of right now, we do not have hotels for the 2 disney area trips. Any tips?

Right now we have a rental car reserved with an estimated price of over $500 for the whole 12 day stay. Do we need a car and if we do, is there a way to get it cheaper? By the way, we are a family of 5 if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any help and tips you can give!

I think you need a car - it's really hard to get around in southern California and visit all the places you plan to visit without a car. If all you were doing was going from the Orange County airport to Disneyland and back you could probably do it, but not with all the other places you want to visit - you'd be spending a lot of money on shuttles and taxis.

Have you tried visiting www.mousesavers.com? They have a lot of information about discounts on rental cars.
