Getting outpriced, am I the only one?

We were thinking the same thing until we tried Carnival - Breeze (2 years ago) and then Norwegian last month! It is now crystal clear for us, Disney Cruises are worth every penny. We are done trying a cheaper line to see if Disney is REALLY worth it. For us, it is... Better service, better rooms, cleaner and WAY better food! Doing Disney again in January 2019 and we'll NEVER try another cruise line again!
Which ncl ship did you do and what didn’t you like. Thanks so much

I hate to say but the first place that I will cut back is tipping. To pay $13,000 for a 7 day cruise and then have an added $500 for tips at the end is obnoxious. If Disney wants their employees paid well, then they need to cut back on the outrageous costs to go on a cruise.
I think this is not cool. I have always felt that if you can’t afford to tip for what you are receiving you shouldn’t do it. These people work so hard to take care of us and they are not the ones who should loose out.
My two cents.

After deciding to give another "cheaper"cruise line a try, we tried Carnival Vista this year. We just recently got back and will never go on carnival again. It went downhill the first 10 minutes on board and didn't get any better. After we got back I booked our 2019 cruise with Disney I know why they say "The difference is Disney" We can't wait to get back on the Magic

What didn't you like about the Carnival Vista?

I'm quite surprised to read that you didn't have a good time on the Carnival Vista as it is my favorite ship (over DCL's Dream & Wonder) and our favorite cruise out of the 5 cruises we have done. Can you give more details regarding the "downwhill" you experienced?

Wow, we loved it, and our kids preferred it. They absolutely loved it. If dcl was the same price , I would pick dcl, but the kids don't care about price and they choose Carnival now. So it is interesting to hear someone with a completely different opinion. I also would love to hear more.

I agree with a pp who said well we could afford it but would feel ridiculous paying this much.

We cruised twice with DCL. The kids still say it was the best vacation ever but the price doubled for us and we just can’t justify it given all we could do for the same amount. Good for Disney though!

When we first got on we went up to the lido for lunch, we then walked around and around with our trays looking for a place to sit down and eat, we even went out to see if their were available seats at the burger joint, none, went back in to the lido and the 4 of us found a 2 seater to share. I thought the ship looked like your basic mall. Cigarette smoke from the casino was wafting up to the shopping area. I thought it was filthy, stairs,hallway,bathrooms... We dined at the MDR every night, we thought it was ugly also lol the fake wood grain tables that are in every mom and pop diner. We didnt get off on Grand Cayman because people were standing in line for an hour andas half, no thanks. Our dinner was never hot . Our waiter was ok, the guy getting our drinks wasn't friendly at all. I could go on lol

Another thing about the Vista lol they charge extra for everything. Not even your kids pop at dinner is included, I will say they make a great Arnold Palmer which we became great fans of because it wasn't extra. We went to the cherry on top, they didn't have any cherries lol no biggie but we thought it was funny.

OP,
I'm not quite outpriced yet, but feel that I am getting to that point and am becoming discouraged. I was going to sail over spring break with my daughter for a nice girl's getaway trip and when I priced it, I just couldn't justify the cost for either the 3 or 4 day. When I compare the prices now to our 3 person, 8 night out of Galveston in April 2013, which included one full day at WDW that only cost me a little under $2500, I just could not justify the cost.

I'm confused by your review, honestly:

Most other cruiselines do not offer free soft drinks.

Grand Cayman use tendering so it takes more time to get off the ship. It's not a Carnival thing.

The Lido is 3 times the size of Cabanas on the biggest DCL ship. I have a hard time believing you did not find seats...

For what it's worth, I think the MDR on the Vista is beautiful.

Sorry no one likes my own personal opinion about my own vacation. Wow these boards have changed I'll admit we love Disney, were gold members so that's all we have to compare other lines too. We've tendered before to ports on Disney and it never took that long.

I don't know, we went off the Vista within 15 minutes in Grand Cayman.

We've been to Grand Cayman with Disney and it didn't take that long, that's why we were surprised our debarking on carnival was so different. I just think Disney does a better job with crowd control.

Wow

Wow!!! Ok then, I hope your overrated Guys burger hits your thighs like a crabby patty does to Squidward!!
Out of line.

We waited 90 minutes to get a tender on DCL that's not a Carnival thing.

Soda's aren't free on any cruiseline except DCL, but they're not really free you are paying double for the cruise. Most cruiselines offer soda packages and Carnival has very cheap cases of bottled water.

I don't know if you've been on the Fantasy or Dream, but talk about trouble finding a table.

None of your complaints other then the smoke are really valid. Those same things happen on DCL.

You may not have liked the decor, but that is just personal taste. It's no fault of Carnival.

People asked me to explain why I didn't like the Vista , so I did.
I understand that, but your reasons for not liking the Vista are some of the same problems you'll find on DCL. I'm not sure how much you've cruised on DCL, but waiting for tables and tenders is not exclusive to Carnival. That is pretty common on any cruiseline.

People asked me to explain why I didn't like the Vista , so I did.

And other posters are sharing their experiences. Just because they differ from yours doesn't make them any less valid.

Besides, maybe it's just me, but I'm more prone to give credence to posters that don't insult someone's thighs.

The comment has been removed and I have spoken with the involved parties - can we return to the topic at hand please or I'll need to close the thread. This is not a reviewing Carnival or insulting each other thread. :flower3:
