How did Mysterio come to be in the Spider-Man movies and is he the villain of Spider-Man?

I was playing the Marvel Strike Force app and I found a character named Mysterio that is in the Spider-Man comics and movies and I would like to know more about him? All I know about Mysterio is that he has a crystal ball for a head and that he's Spider-Man's enemy. What really drawn me to him was that Jake Gyllenhaal plays Mysterio in the Spider-Man movies and since Jake plays Searcher Clade in Strange World and Jake is now my crush I cannot believe that Mysterio is also Searcher Clade as well

Mysterio is one of the oldest Spider-man villains, first appearing in 1964. Myseterio even predates the Green Goblinby one issue and was a founding member of the "Sinister Six" (along with Dr. Octopus, the Vulture, Electro, the Sandman, and Kraven the Hunter), when the villains all team-up to try and beat Spider-Man together.

He was used less and less after the mid-1970s. There is only so many times the reader could be faked out.

I recall in Spider Man: Far from Home, that version of Mysterio required a team to pull off illusions using all sorts of technology.

But the old-school Mysterio was a movie special effects expert and stuntman.

Yeah, they changed it in the movie. He brought in a group of disgruntled scientists etc. with an axe to grind against Tony Stark. The tech was similar though, and the suit too.

Oh so that's who Mysterio is? I didn't even know Jake Gyllenhaal played Mysterio in the Spider-Man movies until I was looking at Youtube videos and saw Jake as Mysterio and my heart thumped and I blushed and it's hard to believe that Searcher Clade really is Mysterio. Was Mysterio Jake Gyllenhaal's first ever Marvel role? Because I knew that his first Disney movie was Prince Of Persia The Sands Of Time
