Cast of Characters: Me: major Disney fan, grew up going to WDW, has visited a dozen times; DH: been to WDW twice, once for Grad night when we were in high school, other trip when we took a major vacation in January to celebrate his retirement from the Air Force and spent 17 days at WDW/Space Coast/Disney Wonder. DS: 11, had a great time on his first trip in January, and DD, 6, loves everything Disney.
Day 5: Sick Kid, Chefs de France, and Candlelight Procession
Got up, took DD's temp, still running a fever. We hung out in the room for the morning. DS and I went out in search of more medicine and some pastries. We had breakfast in the room, then early afternoon, DS was becoming quite bored, DD was still running a fever, but less of one. I gave her some Tylenol we had purchased at the gift shop, and we went down to the pool. I decided it didn't look like whatever DD had was contagious, and splashing in the pool wouldn't hurt, and she'd cool off more happily there than in a lukewarm tub of water in the bathroom. After a little while in the pool, we headed back to the room to dress and DD was down to nearly normal. She also felt better. We decided to head over to Epcot, pick up our tickets to the Candlelight Procession, and try for dinner at Chefs de France. To complicate the day, my cousin was visiting MK that day, and I kept missing her phone calls. We decided we'd try to get over to MK to meet them for a quick soda if we could. We took the launch to Epcot, walked to the front of the park to Guest Relations to get the tickets, (note we discovered later you can also get them at the American Pavilion). This took way longer than I expected. By this time it was after 4:30 and our PS at Chefs was for 6pm. That really didn't leave time to go to MK, try to find my cousins, and get back to Epcot for dinner. Arg! I felt like a crumb for missing her.
We decided to go to the Living Seas then walk back to France via the Mexico side. By the time we got to France we only had a few minutes to wait. Dinner was very good. I had the onion soup and the steak, DS had an onion torte and the seafood casserole, DS hadâ¦what else? Hamburgers. DD opted for the fried fish (eek!) , but really only ate a few French fries. She had a little ice cream too. I had crème brule again and it was wonderful. DH had a chocolate torte, and DS had ice cream too. Dinner at Chefs de France: grade A.
Then we walked over to the American Pavilion, and I took advantage of the 15% off to buy a lap blanket in the shop there. I had been searching for a sweatshirt, but hadn't found one that really did anything for me. I rejoined the crew and we got in line for the CP. DD passed the time looking at her autograph book and playing with her Pluto who had been in her fanny pack all day. I was a little nervous that she wouldn't enjoy the CP and we'd end up leaving. As the line began to move, I put her things in my shopping bag and we gave the stroller to the cast members to park.
DD was cold so I pulled out the lap blanket, wrapped her up and we waited for the CP to begin. Angela Basset was our narrator, and she was perfect. The CP was so inspirational. I am sooo glad we saw it! Grade for Candlelight Procession: A++
When it was all over, DD was worn out and ready for bed, but DS really was hoping to see Illuminations, and I wanted to try one last time for a sweatshirt while I had the discount. DH took DD back to the hotel and took my shopping bag, and DS and I headed to the big shop at the front of the World Showcase. We got there just as Illuminations started. I quickly found the sweatshirts I had passed over earlier in hopes of finding something I liked more. I thought Illuminations lasted longer than it did, so I tried to walk to a good spot before stopping. Naturally it ended just when we found one. Rats. Well, DS was a good sport, and said he had seen part of it, heard all of it, and we had seen the whole thing in January. No problem.
We walked back up to the International Gateway, and got back to the hotel on the last launch. DH and DD were all ready for bed when we arrived and we soon followed.
