Jubilant June 2019 Exercise Challenge

I have been too busy to update. Cone from away was so good. It did bring back the emotions of 9/11. I was living in Staten island and teaching in Bay ridge, Brooklyn.
Tea at the national Gallery was so good. Monday the 10th we started the day going to Westminster Abbey, then the natural history museum. A little shopping then it was time to go to get the Eurostar for the train to Paris.
While in the Uber to the train station , we get a call from hotels.com that there was an issue with the hotel in Reims That we were staying in Tuesday night after the World Cup game.
I think my husband spent the whole time waiting on the phone with hotel.Com. we wound up staying at a hotel in Moussy.
While on the Eurostar, we realized there was no way to get to and from the hotel to the stadium. We wound up renting a car. I’m going to reach out to hotels.com and see what they can do since we had 2 non refundable train tickets that we couldn’t use.
We were so beat Monday night that we slept in late on Tuesday before getting the rental car and going to Moussy
This hotel had actually keys. It was kind of funny getting to the hotel after midnight after the World Cup game. The lobby was closed and all keys (had to leave keys as you left hotel) were just in a basket. I felt bad for the family that first got to hotel after the game. They looked so confused.
We spent 4 night at the Sequoia lodge in Disneyland Paris. We did 3 full days in the parks. It was a lot of fun.
Left pretty early the 4th day to go to Paris. Return the rental car
We shopping, then did a tuk tuk in Paris. The Tuk Tuk was amazing. We had a 4 hour private tour. We got to see everything. We did a dinner cruise that night.
Sunday we did the arc de Triomphe. Lots of stairs. (My watch recorded 32 flights of stairs total for the day)
My daughter had us get to the World Cup gam when the gates opened at 4.
Today we did the Eiffel towel and the louvrE.
Leaving tomorrow.

Congratulations to Twilight Sparkle and PollyannaMom for turning Party Purple and to ljcrochet for being the first team member to reach Pleasureful Pink! (And ljcrochet, I think you're shortchanging yourself--look at the mileage compared to the minutes!)

Another fall staple is Halloween, one of my favorite holidays!

At WDW, it's Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at the MK. In addition to the usual trick-or-treating, character meetings (with dressed-up characters), and special parade, this year there will be a new fireworks show. MNSSHP is one of my fondest Disney memories, and I'm super excited to get a chance to go back this year in October. Have to figure out a costume!

Over in California, this year they're confining the Oogie Boogie Bash to DCA only. Attendees might lack access to the Haunted Mansion, but it does sound like DCA will have its own charms, including Villainous!, an exclusive World of Color show just for the party, the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail transformed into a world of villains, and the DescenDANCE party, themed to the Descendents franchise from the Disney Channel.

Only 30 minutes to report - (435/1000)
Getting ready for our road trip to see our granddaughters- and their parents, too. So exercise will be sporadic for the next two weeks. I wish time in the car counted ☺

As you can see by my signature, I love the Food & Wine festival. My daughter and I have gone every year since 2001! Well, almost- hurricane Sandy kept us home in 2012.
We have our favorites - France, Italy, Canada.
We always begin with champagne from France and waffles from Belgium for breakfast! Since we usually go for least 5 days, we manage to hit most of the booths. We love the nitro frozen chocolate thingie, the Italian margarita, the poké and mai tai in
Hawaii.
Last year we went in late September into early October - the weather almost did me in. It was 95 degrees with a real feel of 105. So this year we’re back to November!!!

I like your style!

One year we ran the Food & Wine 10K in early October. 6 in the morning and steam coming off the street (literally). I thought I was going to die before I finished the race.

Wishing you a safe trip. The grands will probably keep you hopping, anyways.

This weekend was rough with getting in any type of walking. It rained all weekend and is supposed to rain all week. I am over the rain. We haven't even been able to cut the back yard because it is so wet. The grass is getting so long.

That's a double whammy-you can't mow because of the rain, but the rain helps the grass grow even faster.

Sounds like a most excellent trip. I'd love to hear more about your time at Disneyland Paris. (Did you see any posters or anything for Disney Loves Jazz or Electroland?)

Safe travels home!

I have been so distracted by our latest addition to the family that I can't seem to get back to my regular routine. When we went to the mountains, we came back with a 2 month old cockatiel for our daughter. It was a brilliant idea for our daughter's sake, but all I want to do now is play with and cuddle with the bird in my spare time. Doing so doesn't require much active effort on my part. If I don't make goal this month, I blame the bird.

At least it's a cute distraction!

@sophy1996 - I’d do a trip report but NJ to SC pales in comparison to London and Paris!! Somehow I 95 just doesn’t thrill me!
@ljcrochet - sounds like a busy but wonderful trip - except for the hotel switch. We had that happen in Rome. You’re utterly exhausted and then everything is cuckoo. We were lucky though - the hotel they moved us to was nicer!
Well, the road is calling - ugh!

Congratulations to the team for turning Party Purple!

Halloween, continued--all the international parks celebrate too.

In Hong Kong, there's no special party event--Halloween events are included in park admission. There are two parades, Mickey's Halloween Street Party during the day and Villains Night Out! in the evening. In past years there has also been a type of haunted-house experience (themed to the Nightmare Before Christmas in 2018 and called Maze of Madness: The Nightmare Experience Continues in 2017) that seems to go right up to the line of being non-Disney scary. Characters in costumes abound, and over in Adventureland you may find dead pirates roaming after dark.

In Shanghai, look out for Mickey's Halloween Treat Cavalcade, a parade which, according to TDR Explorer, "includes troupes of demonic dancers which escort the villains aboard four Halloween-themed floats." Last year the villains were Dr. Facilier, Maleficent, Hades, and the Queen of Hearts with her card soldiers. "Treasure Cove Ghost Pirates: A Trial of Darkness is a mixture of atmosphere entertainment and stunt show. First off, the pirates roam treasure cove spooking guests and recruiting them for villainous adventures. Later, those who are brave enough to join the crew will be treated to a spectacular stunt-filled showdown between the ghost pirates and Captain Jack." Also, there is a "Trail of Treats" scavenger hunt and a "This IS Halloween" dance party featuring Jack Skellington and Sally. Here's a cute ad for Shanghai Halloween.

As in the other Asian parks, Tokyo events are included in regular admission. Disneyland offers the Happy Halloween Harvest Parade and transforms the Haunted Mansion into the Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare. It also has a stage show and a Halloween fireworks show. And DisneySea has the New York Halloween Follies show (skeletons in 1920s New York!), Welcome Skeleton Friends show, and Chip 'n Dale's Skeleton Fiesta (a cavalcade from Port Discovery to the Arabian Coast). The skeleton friends are described as an interactive roving group of comedic performers with musical instruments (sometimes they serenade guests in the restaurants).

Finally, Disneyland Paris has special-event Halloween parties, but only on 26 and 31 October this year (8 pm - 2 am!). The villains are out in force, including Disney Villains Halloween Celebration show. The Disney Village also offers Halloween parades and a special party on Halloween night.

@ljcrochet - thanks for your trip reports. It looks like I definitely need to keep up with the walking in order to prepare for our trip. Did you encounter long lines and long waits anywhere? So sorry about the hotel issue. That sounds stressful. So glad you guys had fun at Disneyland Paris!

A fall event that appears to be unique to the California parks is Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), this year starting on September 6. Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday celebrated October 31-November 2 to remember family and friends who have died. Apparently it has its roots in indigenous traditions.

According to the Disneyland website, in Frontierland "Zócalo Park will feature a musical trio of iconic skeleton figurines called calacas, brightly colored flowers and other decorative items." And Disney California Adventure has the Plaza de la Familia, "an immersive event at Paradise Gardens Park that honors eternal family bonds in the spirit of Disney and Pixar’s popular animated adventure, Coco. Plaza de la Familia features stirring song-and-dance performances, Mariachi music, an iconic Tree of Life photo location, The World of Coco exhibit and a mouthwatering Mexican menu."

Here's a video tour of the 2018 Plaza de la Familia:
