If you were looking forward to Kevin Smith’s planned Howard the Duck animated series, we have some sad news for you today. Variety reports that Marvel Studios has taken the axe to two of the planned animated shows that were set up on Hulu: Howard the Duck and Tigra & Dazzler.
Back in February 2019, Marvel TV had announced plans to produce four animated shows for MODOK, Hit-Monkey, Howard the Duck, and Tigra & Dazzler that would eventually lead into a special animated event called Marvel’s The Offenders. However, the Howard the Duck and Tigra and Dazzler shows are now off the table, which would indicate that The Offenders project is also no more since two of the shows have been jettisoned.
According to the report, MODOK and Hit-Monkey are still moving forward. The voice cast for MODOK was announced earlier this month. A source stated that Marvel ultimately decided not to move forward with the other planned animated series.
In December, Tigra & Dazzler showrunner Erica Rivinoja exited the show due to creative differences with Marvel, and the show was shelved as a result. Another Marvel Hulu series that was scrapped was the live-action Ghost Rider series that was set to star Gabriel Luna. Marvel’s Helstrom is reportedly still in the works at Hulu. The Runaways recently aired its third and final season last December.
Kevin Smith, of Clerks and Mallrats fame, and Dave Willis (Aqua Teen Hunger Force) were attached to write and executive produce Howard the Duck.
