Lots of Americans watch (American) football on Sundays, most children dress up in costumes on Halloween (October 31st) and go door to door in neighborhoods and collect candy, lots of Americans go shopping for holiday gifts on "black Friday" after our Thanksgiving (always on a Thursday).
Part of the difficulty in finding an American tradition is that we are a melting pot of lots of different cultures and traditions so it's a bit like looking at British traditions and seeing that many of them really are regional (Welch, Scottish, Irish, etc) and somewhat regionalized.
