New Recruits to ‘Suit Up’ Alongside Spider-Man with Cutting-Edge Tech from the New Worldwide Engineering Brigade at Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Paris

The Avengers are setting up new Headquarters and training facilities around the globe to inspire all potential recruits willing to step up and become something more. As part of this global initiative, Tony Stark has founded the Worldwide Engineering Brigade — or WEB for short— to develop advancements in super-powered technology, including new enhancements to Spider-Man’s suit as their debut project. By bringing together the world’s brightest young inventors, the WEB is creating new interfaces that will empower all of us to join the ranks of Earth’s Mightiest.

As I shared with you just a few months ago, Walt Disney Imagineering’s Global Marvel Portfolio is working closely with our partners across Studios and Entertainment to create exciting experiences and attractions where you can join fan-favorite Super Heroes at Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Paris.

One of the best parts of my job is getting to collaborate with a diverse group of talented Imagineers, all pushing to bring this incredible universe to life, in a way that is authentic to this iconic brand. Developing new and innovative technologies, telling new stories and creating experiences that allow our guests to play an active role alongside these extraordinary characters is our core mission.

Today, I’m happy to be able to share more details on an immersive, interactive experience coming to Disney California Adventure park at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney Studios park at Disneyland Paris.

Both parks will feature an exciting new attraction where guests of all ages can join the heroes in action. We are expanding our story universe by creating a new organization, the Worldwide Engineering Brigade, to be our setting for this experience. Though WEB is grounded in classic characters like Peter Parker, it is an organization that we can all be a part of – one that invites us to engage with these iconic heroes like never before.

Besides introducing WEB, we can’t wait to debut a brand-new, cutting-edge interface as part of this fun, interactive attraction. Through a blend of never-before-seen technology and practical effects, guests will get to experience for themselves what it is like to have the abilities of a Super Hero.

This adventure will blend seamlessly into the story of the new lands we’re creating at both Disney California Adventure park and Walt Disney Studios park, where there will be surprises at every turn!

I’m personally most excited to see Spider-Man swinging through these lands in a new suit that you can see now at Walt Disney Studios Park, soon at Disney California Adventure park, and at other locations in the future. We were thrilled to partner with Ryan Meinerding, Head of Visual Development at Marvel Studios, to create this stunning new suit design.

And the feeling is mutual. According to Ryan, “It has been the highlight of my career to design all of Spider-Man’s suits for the most recent films. Bringing him to life through Tony Stark’s capable design aesthetic was a true joy, but working with the Walt Disney Imagineering team to develop a look for Spidey that reflects the innovation of a team of young geniuses really brings him to a new level. And knowing that park guests can get up close to that suit and really take in all the detail the astounding Imagineers packed into it means that we have truly brought a new version of the character to life.”

We are proud to be creating new homes for these characters – where guests can live their own adventures alongside fan-favorite Super Heroes.

Recruitment begins soon, so get ready to assemble and find your power!

Interesting. I wonder where they will build the new "immersive experience" I know we saw Spiderman, Captain America, and Captain Marvel doing meet & greets in DCA on our trip last weekend. They were in 3 separate areas to the left of the blue sky backdrop at the end of Buena Vista Street when you're on your way to GOTG. Captain Marvel had the front fuselage of her plane peeking out of a hanger and a black Jeep nearby with a logo on it (Shield?). Spiderman was standing near a brick building while Captain America had his own meet and greet backdrop.

The former Bugs Land area is being transformed into a new Marvel Themed area and the Spider-Man attraction is supposed to be going in the former theater.

What is this announcing? I know about the new land in DCA. But is this post about a ride, a show, a VR experience, something like the SW Launch Bay?

I believe this is the Spider-Man attraction.
Thanks. It isn’t exactly clear, though, right? They call it an attraction, but also an “immersive, interactive experience” which sounds like VR talk.

If it is the SpiderMan attraction, I really do hope they are pushing tech just like with the SW:GE attractions, and not just throwing something together quickly.

(But is it too much to ask that they clarify the whole SW:GE reservation/phase business before unleashing more stuff to speculate about?!)

The attraction is supposed to be interactive and immersive so it makes sense. I don't think it will be VR related but they are supposed to give you the ability to shoot webs and stuff so that would be the interactive piece.

That makes sense! Are there any other details? It sounds like maybe a more action oriented version of an attraction like TSMM. That could be cool.

I don't see what is so confusing - it's a new attraction - perhaps the details are not being released but it's clearly in the design stages since I'm pretty sure they are still tearing down bugs land. Sounds like WEB will be the location of the attraction - and the experience will be, well interactive is all we know now, but I don't think we need to have the details of how the ride or attraction will work in order to be excited about the entire new land and attraction. That is if one likes Marvel. I know many do not like the Marvel invasion.

I don't need every detail, I just want to know what it is they're describing, because they never actually say it's a ride... so the confusion is: is this a ride or is it something else? Even as a fan of Marvel, I'm a lot more interested in a ride than whatever else this could be.

You could use most of this same language to describe SW Launch Bay (which is not a ride but still described as both "interactive" and an "attraction") or The VOID (which is also not a ride but is described as "a full sensory, immersive experience").

If it is actually something like TSMM, where you ride around and use a "brand-new, cutting-edge interface" to shoot webs, that's probably going to be really awesome. If it's actually just a fancy meet & greet, well, I'm sure there are those who will love that too!

Yeah, it is pretty generic talk which doesn't really say much about the attraction.

I heard recently that Disney can't design a Spiderman ride that's too similar to the one at Universal Orlando as far as design-wise which is a unique caveat to the whole Marvel contract I didn't know existed previously. So that is a limitation they may be having to work around. It's also quite interesting because Universal's Spiderman is still one of the best attractions ever made and Disney having to compete with that using the same character is very intriguing to me.

A few months ago it was rumored to be something like Toy Story Mania, but this does sound like it will be different/better than that.

They patented something a while back that could allow for a swinging dark ride simulating using webs to sling over buildings as Spiderman does. I'm sure someone has a link somewhere.

The DPB tends to do this with pretty much everything. Vague is the way to the fans hearts I guess...

Remember when SW:GE was going to be immersive too? Lots of great releases about that...I’ll believe it when and if it actually is immersive.
