Northwest to bump up charges for 'excess' luggage
Northwest Airlines will reduce its free weight allowance for checked luggage from 70 pounds to 50 pounds per piece beginning effective Dec. 15 just in time for the holidays. The new rules apply to flights within the USA, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico, reports The Seattle Times. Travel to and from Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa is not affected by the change. Luggage weighing more than 50 pounds and up to 70 pounds will be assessed $25 per piece, while baggage weighing between 70 and 100 pounds will be assessed $50 each.
