RISE OF THE RESISTANCE IS NOW OPEN AT WALT DISNEY WORLD AND DISNEYLAND

There are times where the land or Rise of the Resistance ONLY may initiate a boarding group system. This only happens when the land or attraction is deemed at capacity. Both Disneyland and Walt Disney World use this system. You can enter a boarding group through the Disneyland app or My Disney Experience.

Valid theme park admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios is required to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Capacity is limited. Additionally, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be open during Extra Magic Hours. During Extra Magic Hours guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels can spend extra time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios enjoying select attractions. Details will also be available at a later date on Disneyworld.com and the Disney Parks Blog.

An overview of the land: Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is a 14-acre expansion at both Hollywood Studios and Disneyland park. Both are the largest expansions in their respective parks history. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set on the planet Batuu on the outskirts of the galaxy. Batuu is an old trading port. Inside you’ll be in the village of Black Spire Outpost which is known for its distinct tower spires with one very black spire hence the name of the village. In the village you can venture to the marketplace, cantina, Bantha hang out, and even see the creature stall with “living” creatures such as the Loth-cat! You may even be able to take one home with you.

Batuu is a destination on the galaxy's outer rim, part of the uncharted region beyond the all known star systems. The planet is home to an infamous port that smugglers, traders, and more stop. Guests will come across aliens, droids, and other inhabitants as they teach for rare or unique goods, discover unusual food or join a crew seeking adventure.

An excerpt from Starwars.com on Batuu

780w-463h_022719_galaxys-edge-announcements-1.jpg

“This remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge was once a busy crossroads along the old sub-lightspeed trade routes, but its prominence was bypassed by the rise of hyperspace travel. Now home to those who prefer to stay out of the mainstream, it has become a thriving port for smugglers, rogue traders and adventurers traveling between the frontier and uncharted space. It’s also a convenient safe haven for those intent on avoiding the expanding reach of the First Order. While Batuu may be new to us, it is clearly already familiar to many characters from the Star Wars saga as a stepping off point for epic adventures.”

This incredible new land has everything the Star Wars and theme park fans are looking for!

History of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

A Star Wars themed land was first rumor way back in 2012 when Disney first purchased LucasFilm for $4 billion. It took 3 years before the land was finally announced at D23 Expo 2015 by Disney CEO Bob Iger on stage during the studios panel. Scott Trowbridge is the lead portfolio creative for Star Wars in all Disney theme parks and resorts and is the one in charge of this massive under taking. It was in April 2016 when ground was broken for construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for this new land. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is truly unlike anything Disney has done before in their theme parks. Two 14-acre lands built simultaneously on both coasts. Another Star Wars themed land will be coming to Disneyland Paris’s Walt Disney Studios park.

Story Line

From the Disney Parks Blog

“The largest settlement on the planet Batuu, Black Spire Outpost is an infamous stop for traders, adventurers, and smugglers traveling around the Outer Rim and Wild Space. Off the beaten path, this outpost has become a haven for the galaxy’s most colorful — and notorious — characters. Widely known for the petrified remains of its once towering ancient trees, the spires now stand guard across the river valleys and plains and have long captured the imagination of travelers to this planet. To the first settlers, these petrified spires became more than just landmarks; they became the heart of the outpost itself.”

From Barron's
"For inspiration for Black Spire, Disney’s imagineers visited Morocco and Istanbul, and focused on small details. Local guides who wanted to show off iconic sites would find the Disney team instead taking pictures of, say, a door coming off its hinges, we are told. Building exteriors in Galaxy’s Edge are designed to look weathered from the first day of completion; visitors who have seen Harambe Market in the Africa section of Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, near Orlando, Fla., will find a similar attention to detail here, such as the way faint rust streaks flow down from the corners of metal grates.

In [Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run], Hondo Ohnaka, a pirate, has cut a deal with Chewbacca for the use of the Millennium Falcon, and the visitor is the pilot. The attraction entrance will be subtly marked, so as not to disrupt the look of the land. The ship interior will be familiar to even casual fans of the films, down to the 3-D chess board where Chewie lost his temper during a match with R2-D2.

Visitors will fly the ship in groups of six, and see the real-time results of their actions, such as knocking over a spire during takeoff. The flight will be different each visit. After a ride, the visitor might, say, stop at Oga’s for a drink and be told something like, “The boss isn’t happy about how you brought the ship back.” This is part of an interactive, story-building experience throughout the land that visitors can opt in to or out of.

Visitors waiting in line for [Rise of the Resistance] will wind through highly themed interiors that evoke rundown rooms the Resistance has repurposed as a base for operations against the First Order. Groups of guests might be “captured” at one point and ordered along by the enemy, before making their escape aboard a trackless troop transport. They will see scenes including a stormtrooper formation and one featuring Kylo Ren, perhaps resembling the interrogation scene from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The transport will evade familiar war machines, like the four-legged AT-AT Walkers from The Empire Strikes Back. Up close, these towering metal beasts do not disappoint."

Batuu was once a quiet place. It has now become the front line of the Resistance vs. First Order. Black Spire Outpost is meant to feel like you are inside the galaxy and part of the timeline set after The Last Jedi and before Episode 9. Batuu and Black Spire Outpost has been around a long time. A life size version of a Tie Echelon is parked in the First Order sector of Black Spire Outpost. Everyone has a story to tell about Batuu. There are references to Batuu in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Thrawn: Alliances, and future stories that have yet to debut.

Each cast member is playing a character. They will be trained to play a role within the story. They are encouraged to create their own identities. They are locals but some may not know anything about the stories you know. They are encouraged to talk Star Wars politics.

The marketplace will feature a water fountain which appears to be connected to a glass cistern. The dianoga creature may appear within this fountain.

From Blooloop.com
“The answer really is we know those places and we know those stories that happen there and we know that we’re not in them,” said Walt Disney Imagineering portfolio creative executive Scott Trowbridge. “Black Spire Outpost is an opportunity that’s designed from the very get go to be a place that invites exploration and discovery. A place that invites us to become a character in the world of Star Wars. And to the extent that we want to, to participate in the stories of Star Wars.”

“It is an amazing stepping off point for new Star Wars stories,” said Trowbridge, the Imagineering creative executive for the global Star Wars portfolio. “It’s a remote frontier planet somewhere on the edge of wild space. A place that in days of yore was a necessary stopping off point for food and provisions and to refuel as you were exploring the outer reaches of the galaxy.”

“Over time, and especially with the advent of hyperspace travel and faster-than-light travel, it kind of fell in prominence,” Trowbridge said. “It’s kind of like an old Route 66 story a little bit. This is a place that got bypassed a little bit.”

“There is a mystery to it. We kind of like that idea that there is no answer to it,” Kerrison said. “There is something unusual about it. There’s talks and whispers among the locals about why that [dark petrified tree/spire] is blacker than all the rest.”

“This is part of our way of creating that history,” Kerrison said. “We want to give the impression that this planet has always been around. We’re coming into it as travelers for the first time. There are layers and layers of history and all these familiar and new characters who have come and gone to this planet.”

“There are things that exist within the land that suggest that there are stories that are still waiting to be told,” Beck said. “Those things can be integrated with some of the stories that may go into future.”

This attraction is NOW OPEN at Walt Disney World and Disneyland!

This attraction is a huge trackless dark ride with screen and audio animatronic technology featuring several Star Wars characters including life size AT-ATs. As a trackless ride it doesn’t have a physical track that we see on the ground so you do not know exactly where the ride vehicle is going. The ride vehicle is guided by a droid unit on the front through a First Order battle. You will also encounter Kylo Ren inside this attraction.

Fastpass+ - YES but not initially

Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run

disneyland-starwars.png

star-wars-galaxy-edge-millennium-falcon-smugglers-run-disney.png

This simulator attraction lets you drive the Millennium Falcon just as many have wanted to before. This 6-person capsule replicates the actual Falcon cockpit and has some very cool features. As you are flying you are in control and if you do a poor job that can carry with you through Batuu and people of Batuu may be out to get in in other areas. Riders will have 1 of 3 jobs inside the cockpit of the fastest ship in the galaxy.

Chewbacca has flown the Millennium Falcon to the Black Spire Outpost following the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In exchange for parts, Chewie has loaned the ship to smuggler Hondo Ohnaka for a mission which is the attraction's focus.

Hondo is a Weequay pirate from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Guests meet Hondo as he is running Ohnaka Transport Solutions, a "legitimate business" on Batuu. He asks for help as he has more cargo than he can handle and needs extra flight crews...especially those who won't ask questions.

Guests board the falcon through an access hatch on the starboard airlock, then spend some time in the main hold where you can sit at the infamous chess table or check out the ships equipment.

2 pilots will work together to steer the ship. The left pilot will control horizontal motion, while the right pilot controls vertical motion, both trying to avoid obstacles that could cause damage.

2 gunners will use blasters and missiles to defend the ship and its cargo. Guests can switch to manual targeting for a greater challenge.

2 Flight engineers will manage the ship's systems, trying to keep the Falcon from falling apart. They'll repair damage and take control of some special modifications that Hondo installed for their special mission.

DJ Rex - Rex from the original Star Tours is back! He is now the DJ in the local cantina, Oga's. Go get a Batuu brew and listen to the jams DJ Rex has to play!

Oga Garra - Oga is a powerful business owner on Batuu. While she has garnered a lot of power as a crime boss of Black Spire Outpost she actually is rarely seen.

The Gatherers - Gatherers believe in ways of the force. These men and women are trying to restore balance in the galaxy by passing on ancient knowledge. They help guests build their very own lightsaber.

Kylo Ren - You may have already met Kylo Ren at Star Wars Launch Bay, but if you haven't or curious to meet him on Batuu you will have the chance! Kylo Ren has stopped by Batuu to destroy the rising Resistance forces who have gathered there.

Rey - Rey is on Batuu to recruit new supporters of the Resistance. She came here sometime after the Battle of Crait, and is desperately looking for help in the Outer Rim.

Zabaka - Zabaka is flying alien species known as Toydarian. You may recognize her species from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. While you can't directly see Zabaka you will see her silhouette through her workshop window.

Convor - Convor are gold and brown plumed birds that are considered pets in the galaxy. This bird species was first seen in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Dianoga - Tentacled species from the trash compactor in Star Wars: A New Hope. On Batuu the eye of a dianoga pokes in and out of a water tank at Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities. This dianoga is known as Tiny among the locals. Dok-Ondar is also raising a juvenile dianoga known as Toothy.

Fyrnock - species that hides for their own
safety. They are the size of a small humanoid that is a fierce predator. These show up in Star Wars Rebels.

Kowakian Monkey Lizard - This reptilian creature is probably most recognized for being Jabba the Hutt's pet. Turns out this species is a pet to many of the galaxy's underworld.

Momong - This primate species typically lives in trees but at the creature stall you'll see one stuck in a cage hanging in the creature stall. This creature is known from Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Mynock - You may spot a Mynock in Oga's tanks. These bat like parasites chew on power cables and energy conductors of starships.

Ollopom - Often mistaken for a plant this rodent is typically found in the Gungan Swamps of Naboo.

Puffer Pig - The Puffer Pig species are a critical resource for smugglers as they can sniff for valuable minerals. Then a Puffer Pig gets scared they inflate. You see the eyes and hear the snorts of a Puffer Pig in the Creature Stall.

Sarlacc - Sarlacc are an extremely dangerous carnivore species who can grow to be 100 meters long. You might remember this as the species that ate Boba Fett in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. A baby sarlacc can be seen in a tank at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities.

Swamp Slug - Swamp Slug have thousands of teeth and can crush most plants and animals in its mouth. This native species typically live in the bogs of Dagobah. You might spot one in Oga’s Cantina if you look closely.

Wampa - Dok-Ondar must really love taxidermy. A large white and furry taxidermic wampa in his collection at his Den of Antiquities. Wampa are native to the ice planet Hoth and are most widely recognized from their appearance in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

Womp Rat - Guests can also find a taxidermic womp rat at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities. Luke Skywalker mentioned that this rodent creature is much larger than two meters in Star Wars: A New Hope.

“Visitors come to this notorious local watering hole to unwind, conduct shady business, and maybe even encounter a friend…or a foe. Run by an intriguing alien proprietor, Oga Garra, the cantina adheres to a strict code of conduct that tries to keep its unruly patrons in check. But with a history of being a smugglers’ safe haven and a popular stopping point for those seeking to avoid the authorities, you can bet that the cantina has a story or two to tell.

Oga’s Cantina is the kind of establishment that attracts some of the most interesting and disreputable characters in the galaxy. And you never know when a stormtrooper or a familiar face will show up. Patrons of the cantina come from across the galaxy to sample the famous concoctions created with exotic ingredients using “otherworldly” methods, served in unique vessels. With choices for kids and libations for adults, the cantina will make for a great stop!

Musical entertainment is provided courtesy of RX-24, the former StarSpeeder 3000 pilot droid we first met in Star Tours, who has re-envisioned himself as the cantina’s DJ. As quirky and talkative as ever, he’s still trying to do his best on the job.

Get ready to listen to some unique music, taste the best drinks in the galaxy, and surround yourself with a colorful cast of characters. You never know what will happen at the cantina!”

From Barron's

"The first public restaurant in Disneyland to serve alcohol, Oga’s is relatively small for aesthetic reasons, and is likely to be popular. To maximize capacity and keep visits from becoming all-afternoon affairs, most guests will stand. There will be a handful of booths with seating around the outer edge of the restaurant; no decision has been made yet on whether or how these can be reserved. An intricate tangle of tubes and vessels behind the bar might make some drinks appear to flow from the ceiling. We heard a mention of a Fuzzy Tauntaun, named for the furry snow lizards ridden in Empire Strikes Back, although it’s unclear if that’s a hypothetical drink or a planned one, and the menu is still being decided."

As of JUNE 24th Disneyland's Oga's Cantina will take day of reservations.

Retail and Merchandise items

Star-Wars-Land-marketplace-concept-art-1024x616.jpg
Inside the land there will be a creature stall where guests can meet and adopt creatures from the Star Wars universe such as Loth-cats. Local artisans will also sell handcrafted items in the marketplace.

From Barron's

"Shops will be supplied from a common stockroom, and restaurants from a common kitchen, to increase efficiency. One shop will feature droids that visitors can customize through an interactive experience. A droid that is made to be, say, afraid of stormtroopers might signal its fear when one comes close. Droids owned by members of the same group might recognize each other when they meet. Prices have not been set. The shop might also sell a full-size R2-D2 for well-heeled fans, perhaps costing thousands.

There will be another shop presided over by Dok-Ondar, a collector who is briefly mentioned in Solo. This character, likely animatronic, will be set apart in a booth from the rest of the staff, not unlike the dispatcher Louie De Palma in the old ABC sitcom Taxi. Cast members might interact with Dok-Ondar, asking him what he’s willing to let certain items go for. Elsewhere, there will be an outdoor market resembling a bazaar. A pod-racing engine, perhaps at the market, will be used to roast meat.

For Galaxy’s Edge, imagineers have worked with filmmakers, chefs, and merchandise executives to take adherence to storytelling to new levels for a Disney park attraction. One possibility is that Star Wars merchandise in shops will come in unique packaging that downplays the logos. Another is that merchandise based on familiar characters will take on new looks. The imagineers visited the archives at Lucasfilm for early concept art. As a hypothetical example, an artisan figure of a familiar character might look slightly off, with the back story being that residents of Batuu have never seen that character, so they don’t know exactly what the figure should look like."

This alien art and archaeology dealer has a shop within the land. Dok-Ondar is an Ithorian. He is the gatekeeper of the black market. People from all over the galaxy bring their rare and valuable items to him. Not everything in his shop will be for sale though.

Savi & Son Salvage

This is where guests can create their own one of a kind lightsabers. This operation is kept under wraps from the First Order. Guests will need to sign up for a build session and can choose from assorted parts to build their lightsaber. Gatherers are the ones who employee this shop. They are dedicated to balancing the force and sharing their knowledge of it. Several styles and colors will be available for guests. Book a reservation for Disneyland or Walt Disney World online today!

Savi's lightsabers will cost $199 plus tax

The Gatherers will now help you select the heart of your lightsaber—the kyber crystal, which is available in red, blue, green or violet. Next, begin assembling your hilt—parts will be provided based on your theme and cloisonné pin. Each box of parts includes:

1 hilt
4 sleeves (pick 2)
2 emitters (pick 1)
2 pommel caps (pick 1)
2 sets of activation plates and switches (pick 1 set)

Upon hilt completion, the unused parts will be collected by the Gatherers and returned to Savi’s inventory. These are not included with your lightsaber package. Finally, the Gatherers will masterfully connect your hilt to a 36” lightsaber blade so you’re ready for anything the galaxy puts in your path!

Star Wars Hotel

From Disney Parks Blog
According to Bob, this revolutionary new vacation experience will be a living adventure that allows guests to immerse themselves in an entirely new form of Disney storytelling.

“It’s unlike anything that exists today.” Bob said. “From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story! You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire. Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100% immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.

The immersive experience offered at this hotel will stand out among all of our resorts around the globe. As you can see, families visiting this resort will board a starship alive with characters and stories that unfold all around them during their voyage through the galaxy – and every window has a view of space!

The resort will also be seamlessly connected to the highly anticipated Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, allowing guests a complete Star Wars experience. Guests visiting the resort will be welcome to participate as a resident of the galaxy by dressing in Star Wars-inspired attire.

https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/b...alt-disney-world-resort-open-later-this-year/
In this Disney Parks Blog exclusive, I can share today that reservations will open later this year for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, which debuts in 2021 at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. This new two-day and two-night vacation is an all-immersive experience that will take you to a galaxy far, far away in a way that only Disney could create.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is a completely new type of experience,” says Ann Morrow Johnson, executive producer for Walt Disney Imagineering. “You’re going to live onboard a star cruiser…and you can get wrapped up in the larger Star Wars story.”

Differences between Walt Disney World and Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge

Disneyland has three entrances to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
Critter Country
Big Thunder/Frontier Land
Fantasyland
Hollywood Studios has two entrances to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge
Toy Story Land (EXIT ONLY FOR NOW)
Grand Avenue

Rise of the Resistance will open December 5th, 2019 at Walt Disney World and January 17th, 2020 at Disneyland.

Disneyland specific information

From May 31st through June 23rd a reservation will be needed in order to enter Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
A Disneyland Resort Hotel reservation will guarantee you access to the land during that time period.

After June 23rd Disneyland will use a virtual queue system to streamline entry and crowding in Galaxy's Edge.

From BlogMickey.com

“We will be giving guests a window of time, but we’re still working through what that looks like and the duration for that. We’ll be working hard to ensure that guests have enough time in the land to see all the great things and experience the attraction. We know guests might want to stay in there all day, but we’ve got a whole big group that wants to get in there. We’re just trying to balance all those things and really deliver the right solution for our guests.” -Disneyland Vice President Kris Theiler

There will be no standby line during this time.

“There will be no standby access to the land and we want to make sure that that’s clear for guests. We don’t want guests coming to the park thinking, ‘I don’t have a reservation. Maybe I’ll just get in the queue and I’ll be able to get in.’ We’re not going to have a standby line. So it will be limited solely to those guests that have reservations.” -Disneyland Vice President Kris Theiler

Disneyland will utilize the bathroom pass for standby lines inside the land if needed. This was first started at Pandora: The World of Avatar however no word yet if Hollywood Studios will also use this pass when SWGE opens there.

Here’s how the bathroom pass works:

If a guest needs to use the restroom, one person in the party must remain in line. The guest leaving goes to use the bathroom and upon returning the guest they will enter through the FP line with the bathroom pass and meet your party at the merge point. Then once met up with your party you continue through the queue.

Reservations to Visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park Available May 2 or Book a Stay at a Disneyland Resort Hotel Now

Disneyland Resort Hotel Guests should have received an email starting April 22nd, 2019. This email contains information regarding their resort reservation for SWGE.

There will be no passholder previews at Disneyland.

Here’s How to Make a Reservation to Visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park Between May 31 and June 23, 2019

"Disneyland expects that four hours will be enough time for most visitors to explore Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during the initial reservation-only period and that scoundrels who overstay their welcome will be dealt with by a squadron of stormtroopers.

Disneyland will issue colored wristbands to visitors during the reservation-only period for each of the four-hour windows. Newly-admitted Galaxy’s Edge visitors will mix in with those already in the land much like the Halloween events at Disneyland.

After each four-hour window ends, Disneyland employees may turn away visitors with expired wristbands attempting to enter the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction, Oga’s Cantina cocktail lounge, Docking Bay 7 restaurant and the Savi’s Workshop and Droid Depot experiential shops.

“At a certain point, if we have to, then we’ll start to ask them to leave the land,” said Disneyland vice president Kris Theiler.

Disneyland expects that most visitors will find four hours to be more than enough time to explore the new 14-acre Star Wars land.

Stragglers will be dealt with by the First Order stormtroopers patrolling the land.

The reservation system has been designed to manage crowds and minimize wait times while keeping the land below capacity.

The goal is to keep the wait times for Smugglers Run under two hours, Theiler said. Accommodations will be made if the attraction should experience any downtime.

The wait time for Smugglers Run will balloon if everybody entering Galaxy’s Edge heads straight for the attraction. Disney hopes to disperse visitors throughout the land during the reservation-only period and persuade riders to postpone their journey on Smugglers Run until the second or third hour of their visit when wait times will be less.

We want to try and make sure that people aren’t spending the whole time standing in the queue,” Theiler said.

At the same time, Disney doesn’t want riders waiting until the last minute of their four-hour window to get in line for Smugglers Run."

Virtual Queue details for Disneyland and Walt Disney World

http://blogmickey.com/2019/05/virtu...BgsHtj_G47GOqoaWeGcmAm0i1i32_nO4ic3clS6uXXsbM

"According to a post by the OC Register, guests will log in to the Disneyland app and secure their “boarding pass” to enter the land. At rope drop, guests will be able to walk directly into the land until it is full. A status bar in the app will show how full the land is at any given time. When it fills to capacity, the option to secure your boarding pass will pop up. After guests secure the pass, Disney will send a push notification to their phone when it is their turn. Guests will then have two hours to return to the land entrance to redeem their pass.

Disney hasn’t stated how long the virtual queue system will be in place for, simply stating that they will stop using it when the crowds die down and there is no longer a need for it. Disneyland is implementing this virtual queue so guests can continue to enjoy the park without the need to stand in line for Galaxy’s Edge all day."

Boarding Groups

For guests wishing to live out Star Wars adventures and access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge beginning June 24, Disneyland Resort may utilize a virtual queuing system, as needed, to help everyone have a great experience. Download the Disneyland app before arriving and check the app or signage the day of your visit to find out if you will need to be part of a boarding group to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge that day. The boarding group will save you a virtual spot in line so you can enjoy other experiences while you wait to be notified of a time to enter.*

You may use the Disneyland app to request to be part of a boarding group after entering Disneyland park, if implemented that day. Simply link the theme park tickets of everyone in your party together on the app to request the same boarding group for your entire party. To see which boarding group is currently being admitted to the land, look on the app or digital signage in the park.

If you enable push notifications on your mobile device, you will be notified when it is time to enter the land. If not, continue to check the Disneyland app or digital signage in the park, and enjoy other experiences, while awaiting your boarding group. You have up to two hours to enter the land after your boarding group is called for admission, so there is no rush!

For guests not using the Disneyland app, a boarding group may be obtained with a park admission ticket at select Disney FASTPASS Service locations such as Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones Adventure, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain or near the Matterhorn Bobsleds.

FALCON GROUPING: Like stated before, everyone is handed a card. But now I learned the cockpit positions are upside down and cannot be seen by the CM. CMs quickly/anonymously hand out 6 at a time and you flip over your card to reveal what position you got. YOU CAN TRADE.. its just all up to your family.. you dispute and fight amongst each other. The cast is not held responsible.

GUNNER POSITION: 3 friends have all now said that the gunner position wasn't their favorite.
-One said that the buttons are placed at such a weird angle that it was difficult to watch the show and simultaneously push the correct flashing buttons
-Another said that the position was just boring and wasn't nearly as fun as the pilot position
-The last CM actually said she preferred the engineer position more than gunner bc there were more things to do. (This CM is tall and also stated that she didn't have a hard time seeing from the back)

SAVI'S WORKSHOP: So while one of my CM friends was exploring, another approached his group and asked if they wanted to build a lightsaber. They said yes and got pulled into Savi's to test the experience. The workshop was rehearsing show material and needed "guests" to participate in order to test and adjust. He said he did the entire experience and was blown away. He even got emotional throughout the experience. He said the experience really tugs at your heart and makes Star Wars fans feel like they're a part of something special. They hand built their custom lightsabers with eager grins to only have them taken after the experience. Nothing is free at Disney, folks. At the end, he said he would go back and pay $$$$ bc it was really that great.

CONCLUSION: I've received a lot of mixed reviews about falcon.. But through them all, I've concluded that your ride experience really just depends on how your group contributes... If you have great pilots and gunners, the engineer position could be boring with nothing to fix.. You could have an amazing time as an engineer if you're tall, can see the screen, and have crappy pilots that make you fix a lot of things.

LAND/QUEUE:
-The Falcon outside is MASSIVE. The scale of everything is so large it will make you feel like an ant.

-The queue is very impressive. Multi leveled, tons of props to look at.. but isn't physically interactive at all. I'm guessing the Play Disney Parks app will be heavily relied on.

-There is only 1 Hondo preshow room (this seems so cost effective and inefficient to me personally). For efficiency, the room is divided into 2. This 1 room holds a large amount of people and feeds two separate falcon interiors. When the preshow ends, both sides dump out into 2 separate chess rooms.
(this seems interesting... you being in a room full of guests and only seeing your half of the room in the actual falcon... where did the others go?)

-Grouping happens before you enter the chess room

-Every single person is assigned a colored card with a number and a cockpit position on it.

-The chess room is free roam and you will see other groups waiting as well.

RIDE:
-The ride is actually pretty long.. about 5 min is what the cm felt like it was.

-Everyone starts out with $3000. Every time you fire or bang into something, it costs money. At the end, Hondo will tally your score and let you know how much money you have left/if you did good/bad. This group had $300 left and Hondo was not happy.

-PILOT: This position is reported to be the most fun and the most challenging. One pilot controls left/right movement while the other controls up/down. Up/Down is harder and has more game play. There were some small moments with little to do for the left/right pilot. Not only is this position the hardest but you get perfect viewing (front row seats) to the entire show. Adults felt stressed and challenged by this position, can't wait to see how little Timmy handles the attraction.

GUNNER: None of my friends have yet to experience this position but they said the individuals in those seats were having a blast!

ENGINEER: Ok.... where do I begin... So this position will actually be the least favored of the three, but not for the reasons we think. The tasks are actually cool and a lot of fun BUT its very difficult to see the screen/understand what is going on. I don't think the seats are elevated, therefore, you're basically getting the worst seat in the house. I also heard that the projection is not very bright which really did not help the back row at all. The Falcon window is already hard to see out of normally, so sitting in the back wasn't too fulfilling.

DOWNTIMES: The ride actually has a tech difficulty during a friends preview.. the cockpit screen shuts off and turns blank, motion stops, and you just sit and wait for a CM to open your door. They got to re-ride.

EMPTY SEATS: If your cockpit has empty seats, the ride system will know and disregard them.

EXIT: You exit out a different hallway than what you entered but it looks identical.

CMs did not notice any hallway changes as they exited like stated at the Chicago convention.

Another account:

Pretty accurate to what my group and I experienced. A few things I wanted to add:

- the Hondo AA wasn’t working. The CM in the pre-show room pushed a button, left the room, came back and realized it never worked, then pushed something else, and an alternate pre-show played on the screens.

- Gunner seemed like the most popular position among the groups riding. Pilot is fun, but you don’t really participate in any action like the Gunner does.

- The position assigning was completely random. After the pre-show, we were directed down a narrow hallway and were practically in a single file line and the CM at the end of the line was quickly handing out cards with our assigned color and position. Didn’t seem like there was any particular method to this.

- The line moves VERY QUICK with no Fastpass holding back the standby queue. This will be nice during the first few months of operation.
