OT- Anyone have a child who snores loudly?? **UPDATE**

My son (adopted at age 2.5) came to us snoring like a drunken sailor!

Turns out he had some of the largest tonsils and adenoids the ENT doc had ever seen!

We had them removed and he is doing great.

My 3.5 year old son has begun snoring very loudly at night. It started a few months ago where he is snoring most nights now. I think it really only happens on his back. It's very loud, though....it is literally like a grown man with a snoring problem.

Anyway, his teachers brought it up today at preschool. They've only noticed it recently, but apparently it's pretty bad there too. They also say (and I've seen) that he is very sweaty at nap time. I could ring his hair where he's been sleeping and it would drip....I've considered bringing a towel when I come pick him up! His teacher also thinks that his speech is kind of nasally...I never noticed, but sometimes other people can pick up on things that I can't as a mother.

I've been researching and it could be enlarged adenoids. I've never noticed breathing problems but I've seen that if he has apnea it could also cause daytime problems. He's been driving me nuts lately and I wonder if this could be it. He's always been very active, but sometimes he acts very hyperactive and has difficulty controlling himself. He's a sweet, sweet boy who everyone loves, but everythign he does is times 2.

I made an appointment on Monday to have it checked out, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience here. Thanks!!

My son had enlarged adenoids, the ent said they were the biggest he'd ever seen, and he is skinny as a rail as well.. An xray is usually required to prove their size.
He had apnea really bad, and once removed adenoids, that very same night, the snoring and stopping of breathing thankfully subsided. His tonsils were tiny however so he still has those.
Good luck.

I just wanted to say that when my oldest was about 8 1/2 he just started snoring @ night & it was so bad he was keeping us up. He was getting in trouble for a bad attitude and being just sulky and moody-I finally thought-maybe the poor thing isn't sleeping well because of the snoring-took him in and he had enlarged tonsils and adnoids(sp?).They took them out and he has never had a problem since, now, if I could just send in my husband.......

My daughter sounded like a freight train. I could hear her all the way downstairs and at the other end of the house! She had her tonsils/ad. out last year (she was 6 yrs old) and now you can't even hear her breathe....it's funny after hearing her snore for so long!!!!!

Her tonsils were huge...the dr. showed them to us after they were removed. I think he said they were FOUR times the normal size....I don't know how she ever swallowed anything.

She hasn't been sick since they were removed.

Good Luck.

Yes, both of them :confused3 . My son has stopped since he had his tonsils and adenoids out, but my daughter does for sure. She is rapidly catching up to her father :rotfl2: . Our room is downstairs so we were still using the monitor so we could hear her at night (she won't come down and get us if she has a problem), but I had to turn it off because I couldn't take 2 of them :lmao: .

Adenoids and large tonsils were the problem for my ds. He had them removed at age 3 and all is well.

My daughter.. who will be 3 in June.. also snores. I've noticed that she has enlarged tonsils.. and maybe adnoids. I'm sure at her 3yr check up they will recommend she get them removed. I'm just scared of my baby having surgery of any kind.. not to mention the costs.

btw... she is a skinny minnie also.. so not due to weight issues.

Now that we've been referred to an eyes, ear, nose specialist I'm starting to get nervous about possible surgery! You guys have been pretty reassuring, though!

My son had always snored but it started to get worse around August last year. We fianlly went in for a sleep study and found out that he had very bad apnea he would wake up 39 times an hour. I couldnt tell he was doing that, we knew he made noise but not that he woke up. He would also
get very hyper if he wanted to stay awake and if he didnt get his nap it was like suddenly I had a monster on my hands I can just imagine what you are going through.
We just had his adneoids and tonsils removed and ear tubes put in about 3 weeks ago at 2 years 8 months old. Although I panic when I cant hear him on the moniter he no longer snores, he actually cuddles (which he never did before) and doesnt breath through his mouth. Also it has helped his speech a lot! From what I have read the tonsils/adenoids being a problem are common between 3 and 7. Good luck OP and feel free to PM me if you have questions about anything.
Hi sorry its been a while, how long did it take post surgery for your son to see the improvement in sleep

We had the same thing with my daughter and did the surgery during Christmas break 2021. The snoring was relieved immediately. Was so amazing, we wished we’d had it done way before!

We gave her a week or so to recover with school out, but barely needed a couple days. She was wanting all her regular foods right away. All kids are different on the recovery tho.

Thanks!! We just did my daughters adenoidectomy and ear tubes 10 days ago. She is back to her normal self thank God. But she had heavy thick nasal drainage/discharge for about 5 days after surgery which didn’t let us see the improvements. That has slowly been improving and now she is almost completely decongested.
