Physalis-Also called Chinese Lanterns. As a child these always grew in our yard. In the fall we would collect these pretty orange lanterns. While most people avoid these plants, I love them, they are very invasive so they will need a spot by themselves where they can be controlled. They are also related to the potato family, which means some years they will be invaded with the potato beetle.

These are fun plants to grow.

In the summer there are tiny white star flowers. These are another great plant for children to plant and watch, as the flower turns to a green lantern and slowly orange as fall arrives.

Chinese Lanterns love sun, will grow in ordinary soil and grow to heights of 16 inches.
