Polynesian Pixie Dust: A Love/Hate Vacationship. An October 2017 TR *updated 2/12x3 and Complete*

Good morning!!

I have another quick little update for you now, and hopefully another one on the way later today.

Chapter Four Part Two

We had left the Contemporary on the ferry boat and were heading to my favorite place anywhere on Disney property - The Wilderness Lodge!

Prior to our trip last December, it had been the only resort I'd ever stayed at. We decided to branch out and try other resorts, and it's really just cemented my love of the place even more.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

My mom really liked it there, but she was still preferring the Polynesian. She did agree that it was impressive, though. The only thing that comes close to rivaling it is Animal Kingdom Lodge, which is my second favorite resort!

She did say it was probably the only resort that would make my step dad ever consider making the trip to WDW!

I showed her all of the main highlights, including the totem pole featuring Humphrey.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I told her about rubbing his nose for good luck, and she wanted to get a picture.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

She had to use the restroom so I waited in the lobby and just tried to absorb some Wilderness magic and embrace the comforting environment.

Awkward Selfie time!!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

The necklace in that picture is one I got in the Japan pavilion a couple of years ago when I got twin pearls from the Pick-a-Pearl station in Mitsukoshi. I wear it quite a bit!

After checking the time, we knew we needed to wrap up our visit, so we got back on the ferry

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Then back on the monorail

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

and reached the final stop on our resort tour - our own resort!

There was a wedding photo shoot going on. I always seem to stumble upon brides at Disney! You can see the lovely couple on the left side of this:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

We'd see another one a couple days later...well, no bride, but a line of bridesmaids with bouquets having photos taken outside.

One of the most fun things at the Polynesian are the tikis in Boutiki. Aptly named, LOL!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

These little peek-a-boo guys were my favorite:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

The plan after that was to go back to the room and rest for awhile. We were just really terrible at following through with plans, though, and got dressed for the party instead! We did stop by the lounge for snacks before going over to the Magic Kingdom, and enjoyed the view for awhile.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

We got really lucky most of the time we were in the lounge and were able to score seats right in front of the window. The lounge was my favorite part of the Poly experience. Well, at least when it was quiet - mornings in there are intense!

Both of us were feeling antsy and ready to get to the park. I had one FP scheduled for us at 4ish (I'd have to pull up my spreadsheet to look and I am too lazy to do that right now!) for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. The ultimate goal was to get to the park as guests were allowed in for the party, but because I had the AP and my mom had enough days on her ticket, we decided to go ahead and go early. I was able to make one more Fast Pass for us with the time we had, and I picked Winnie the Pooh.

Mom had abandoned her original costume idea - a floral dress she was going to try and pass off as Daisy - but she was afraid she would be really uncomfortable in it. She went with an orange top instead, trying to go for a pumpkin look. I decided she needed a little flair, so on the way to the monorail we stopped in Boutiki again to look at the plumeria hair clips/head bands that the ladies make in the lobby. (after a certain time, they leave, but move the flowers into boutiki)

Headband or clip??

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I liked the headband, but she thought the clip would be more comfortable as the night went on.

We admired the lobby a little more:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

and then we were ready to go to the party!!

Party arrival coming up next, hopefully a little later this afternoon!!

Sounds like a fun time exploring WL! I love those flower headbands/clips your mom tried on, so cute! Can't wait to hear about the party!!

Hurray Party Time!! I love your Mom's hair clip. Another report that makes me want to eventually trek out to WL. Maybe we will add it to our monorail crawl in August when we are staying at the Poly ;)

I could just move right in to the WL and be perfectly happy for the rest of my life!!

I may or may not snag that flower for myself the next day...:rolleyes1

I regret not buying one of my own!

I was SO EXCITED for this party. I love all things Halloween and spooky and I could not wait.

The hair clips were so cute, and I really wish I'd bought one for myself. The ladies who make them also make fresh flower leis in the lobby during certain times of the day, and it's fun to watch them create.

I wholeheartedly support visiting the WL. I frequently talk about how it's my favorite, and it really really is. For me, nothing beats if for value, comfort, theming and overall vibe. It's just perfect in my opinion.

Chapter Four Part Three

We took the monorail over to the Magic Kingdom. There were only a handful of others dressed up for the party at that time. I think it was just a hair after 3pm. Lots of people commented on my costume and LOTS of people commented on my ears in particular.

The first thing we did when we got inside the MK was take a picture of all the scarecrows. If you're a crow, I suggest skipping this next group of photos! It might be too much for your little birdie heart.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Did all ya'll crows out there survive that barrage of scarecrow pictures?? To be fair, I did warn all the crows to take flight in case it was too overwhelming and terrifying...but it's really not so scary ;);)

Before making our way down Main Street USA we stopped for a photopass picture:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Our photographer guy had impeccable makeup skills but I think he missed class on personality day. The most unfriendly we encountered...and that includes Mr. Grumpy Gills I always seem to run into at Epcot (who we do encounter again on THIS trip) We shook it off and admired Main Street. The atmosphere was electric and everyone seemed excited.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

We stopped for more photopass pictures along the way to our fast pass for Winnie the Pooh

Before we left the resort, I was considering leaving my ears behind. The hairstylist at the salon had braided my hair so tightly, which was great for the windy day and all the running around we did, but was awkward looking with the ears. I felt like I looked bald. Nothing wrong with being bald, but frankly, I don't have the face for it!

As you can tell from the pictures, it was a gloomy afternoon. I was so grateful for the cooler temperatures, but was starting to get nervous about the prospect of rain. It was in the forecast, so I was on high alert and checking the radar off and on.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Clouds don't make the castle any less beautiful though, do they??

My mom was slightly anxious b/c she knew Seven Dwarfs Mine Train was on the horizon, but first things first - a trip through the Hundred Acre Wood

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Time had finally come for mom to face her fear - 7DMT. She had survived the Barnstormer, remember??

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

All smiles in the beginning...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Would it last as we traveled up the mountain and into the mine?

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Let's see how it went:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

She liked it!! That's good b/c I had another FP for it on another day, LOL! I took the risk!!

That's all for now, folks!! Up next...SO. MANY. CHARACTERS.

Have a great afternoon!!

Your outfit is SO adorable!! I love all the PP pics of you and your mom!

Aww you both look so happy on SDMT! Glad your mom enjoyed it!

I LOVE your outfit!!!

Thank you!! I'm not really a costume person, so this felt like the most natural type of thing to wear.

Your outfit is SO adorable!! I love all the PP pics of you and your mom!

Aww you both look so happy on SDMT! Glad your mom enjoyed it!

Thank you! I really wish my braids had been a tiny bit looser so my hair didn't look so severely pulled back with the ears on, but I thought overall it worked ok.

Haha, I had no idea how she would react on SDMT, so I was happy it worked out.

I'm not sure if the kid in front of you was excited about the ride or the girl sitting in front of him. hahaha

Ha!

Love your moms hair clip and your ears. Lets hope it stays dry for the evening.

Thanks! I loved the flower clips. They had some cute Halloween themed ones with little bats or ghosts attached, but she didn't go for those.

Between getting on the monorail and getting off at MK, it was pouring down rain, so I was really really nervous!

Your dress is too cute!!!!

Thank you!! I found it inexpensively on Amazon...but when I washed it the red bled into the white polka dots, so it is only costume worthy now. Not that I have very many occasions to wear a polka dot dress, but it was a little disappointing.

Hello again!!

I'm sitting here battling a cold that I was adamant about not getting! I don't have much of a voice left. I'm sure I can think of a few people who are probably happy about that! :rotfl:

My 7th grader has an orchestra concert tonight so I'm going to have to find a way to power through.

Since I am sitting here feeling awful, how about we add on to this report??

Chapter Four Part Four

Once we got off the Mine Train, we had some time to kill before our first party activity of the night...it was also unfinished business from our first park day.
We went to Philharmagic to pick up our party wristbands and then went to take care of that unfinished business!
On the first day at the Magic Kingdom I finally got to visit Pete's Silly Sideshow to hang out with Minnie and Daisy, but we had to skip Donald and Goofy. We were ready to make up for that!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Donald was kind of weird. We were trying to get him to interact and be silly but he was being stubborn. I also am not a huge fan of this picture, but you can see the sides of my braids this way.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Goofy was up next and he was much better! My mom told him that he was her favorite and he really loved that!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Finally I had completed the Pete's Meets (new trademark, LOL!)

It was about 4:45 at this point, and time to prepare for the first party exclusive moment. Originally, I wanted to meet Jack and Sally. I knew my 12 year old would be so mad at me for meeting them without him (he's a Nightmare nut!), especially since we didn't wait to meet Santa Jack at the Christmas party last year. Also, I wasn't sure my mom would really know who they were or care about meeting them. Instead, I made the decision that we would meet the Seven Dwarfs.

They came out at 6:15 at the parties this year and I knew we needed to line up early so we wouldn't have to wait during the actual party time. We went ahead and got in line at 4:45 and we were not first in line. We were third or fourth. The tent wasn't open yet, it was still being used as a Fast Pass kiosk location, and they were setting up their M&G area.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Eventually they did let us into the tent...everyone was nervously looking at the sky and taking out their phones to look at radars. At one point we heard a loud boom (I think it was from the castle show) and everyone jumped thinking it was thunder! We were all on edge after arriving at the park and *just* dodging the rain.

They did come out right at 6:15 and everyone was so excited!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I'd kind of assumed this was purely a "love and shove" type meet, but they were all fairly interactive and I had my hand kissed by almost all of them, and they LOVED it when you greeted each one by name. There was a lot of hugging going on.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

It was a long wait. I'm not sure I'd exactly call it "worth it", but I'm glad to have them crossed off my "to meet" list. They were all adorable and it was a fun time. And going back to my "worth it" comment, it certainly was better than being in line waiting during actual party hours!!

At the end of the last update I promised you lots of characters, and I will deliver. After meeting the dwarfs it was time for my number one priority meet!! We walked VERY quickly back toward the Hundred Acre Wood and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Meeting the Pooh characters in costume was the most important to me, and we ended up fourth in line for them. It was about 6:30 when we got in line. They were still doing their regular meets, and we got to see a couple of sets before they went offstage. This wait wasn't bad at all. We were behind a nice family who had really incredible Alice and Wonderland costumes on. The daughter and I had fun people watching and exclaiming over all of the awesome costumes that walked by as we were waiting.

Just before 7, we were moved from our waiting area up into the actual meet and greet location.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

When they first came out, Tigger was missing and people in line were freaking out

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

The first two groups met the characters without him, but then he came bouncing in in his pirate costume! The handler asked if it was ok for the first groups to retake their photos with all four, and everyone said yes.

Eventually it was our turn!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Now THIS was definitely worth the wait! Are they not the cutest things ever?? I could not handle Eeyore in that clown costume, it was too too adorable.

After we met them, my mom was ready for food. The party was started and Fantasyland was right there, so we decided on mac and cheese at The Friar's Nook.

My mom got the barbecue chicken version:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

And I had the plain:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

It was good as always! It never looks like all that much food but it is so filling, and I was stuffed! We had to deal with very windy conditions. Napkins and things were blowing all around, and as we were walking toward the table the wind caught the tray and almost blew it out of my hands. I noticed others dealing with the same thing. Luckily it seemed like everyone was able to hang onto them and no macaroni was lost. What a mess that would have been!

Things were in full swing after we were finished eating. I loved sitting there listening to the Halloween music playing in the park and seeing everyone walking by in their costumes - and now it was time for us to join them!

The first stop for the night would be Tomorrowland. I really wanted to see the Monsters Inc dance party. Along the way we checked out some trick or treat lines but they were SO LONG. We decided to skip them for now and try again later.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

It was so much fun to see Boo! I was disappointed that George Sanderson wasn't out there, but was happy to see Boo, Mike, and Sully. After our quick visit to Monstropolis, we hopped on the People Mover

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

As we People Moved around Tomorrowland, I got to see George Sanderson after all - he had joined the Monsters Inc dance party and we got to see him dancing from the ride. Complete with sock attached to his back - 2319! 2319!

The next photo I have is this one of the castle:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

and this photopass shot:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I know we didn't cross the hub. We must have just gone back over the bridge, b/c I knew we were backtracking to Storybook Circus again. We checked on trick or treat lines in the Pete's Silly Sideshow tent, but they were still too long. The whole reason for going back over there wasn't for trick or treating though. It was for this:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Getting this shot was so awkward b/c you had to stand still and not move. I felt like a deer in headlights, LOL!!

Our next destination was Adventureland...and that's what will be in the next update. Will we EVER get to trick or treat??

Have an awesome Thursday!! I'll try to get another update or two in today!!

Your PP shots are awesome! You look fantastic!
Smart move getting in line early for the Dwarfs and Pooh. We're doing next year's party in August, but I don't think we'll do any meet and greets. I more want to see the parade/fireworks and just be immersed in the vibe!
Boo is just too cute! But tough luck on the trick or treat lines.

I hope you feel better :(

Cute pic with the dwarfs! And it's great that you were done early so you could head to the Pooh gang! The Pooh costumes are just too adorable, another great pic!

I love that skeleton magic shot, but you're right so awkward to just stand there!

I hope you feel better quick! Colds suck, but especially with the holidays around the corner it's worse.

Your ears and dress were amazing!!

Those characters were awesome, especially the Pooh characters! So so so cute in their costumes!

Joining in late--just binged on the whole report so far! Love it, very entertaining. Looks like you took it all at a great pace for the 2 of you...not too commando but still managed to do a lot!

I went to MNSSHP a couple years ago but it was last minute and had no idea at the time about Pooh and friends wearing costumes! I'm not sure I'll ever be able to make it back for the party, but if I do, they will be number 1 on my list! Adorable.

We did MNSSHP last October for the second time, and had soooo much fun. it looks like you and your mom did too!!!

We did! It seemed more hectic than the Christmas party last year, but there was so much we really enjoyed!

Thank you!

Yeah, I did not want to spend party time in lines for characters. Of course, that meant missing out on many I wanted to meet, but I just had to prioritize. And like you, i mainly wanted to see the parade and fireworks! Last December we skipped character meets b/c we missed out on getting in lines early and we didn't want to stand in line. It was also like 90 degrees in December and we were too hot to stand still, LOL!!

I hope you feel better :(

Thanks! I keep trying to convince myself I don't have a fever, lol. I'm not sure if it's working but I refuse to hunt for the thermometer and just keep taking my dayquil. I'd rather be napping but I have to pick the kids up in an hour and my phone keeps buzzing with texts and I have so much paperwork to do  I will have a chance to rest tomorrow night, I just need to hang in there until then!

I was so happy to get the two character meets out of the way right off the bat, it was a relief!

Thank you! I just don't have time to be sick right now!! I have drank so much orange juice in the past 24 hours!!

As soon as I saw the costumes on the Pooh gang I knew I had to meet them!! They are a childhood favorite with a lot of emotional memories attached, so it was a special meet and greet for sure.

Joining in late--just binged on the whole report so far! Love it, very entertaining. Looks like you took it all at a great pace for the 2 of you...not too commando but still managed to do a lot!

Hello and welcome!!

It's kind of fun for me to go back and remember everything we did. When planning, I was trying so hard to take things slower than I might ordinarily, and yet we still managed to do so many things. There were many times during the trip that crowds were too high or something was taking too long, and I had to just cut my losses and go to plan B. It all worked out pretty well, thank goodness! I felt a lot of pressure since it was my mom's first visit, but on the other hand, she didn't know if she missed something, LOL!!

I love seeing all the characters dressed up, but Pooh and friends really take the cake! It's over the top cute, and I'm so glad I took the time to meet them. It was fun and unique. If you get back to a Halloween party I hope you get to meet them!!

Chapter Four Part Five

My pictures start getting fewer and farther between at this point. I have no idea how we got back over to Adventureland, but we did! And YES we finally got to go through a trick or treat line.

Adventureland was crowded but the lines weren't as long, so we stopped in at the Tiki Room!

It was really pretty interesting to be inside with the show lights glowing and the birds clicking around, but without the full show going. I think I'd like to be a Tiki Room CM. (If I could switch off Tiki Room and Country Bears I'd be a happy camper!)

Once we started trick or treating, we had the bug! We needed more candy!! So as we moved deeper into Adventureland, we stopped at another. You know I love Pirates of the Caribbean, so it's only fitting that was our next candy spot!

You can see all the people even though it's dark. It was nuts. Last year we were at a sold out Christmas party and I didn't think crowds were bad at all. In fact, I remember wishing every day could be like a sold out party day. As far as I know, this Halloween party was not sold out, but it was so, so crowded. For the first time I understood why people complained about party crowds.

The candy line looked long but it went really quickly. It was a lot different than the stopped and still lines we'd encountered in New Fantasyland earlier in the evening!

We kept moving and headed into Frontierland we stopped for this photopass opportunity

and after that, I got an AMAZING SURPRISE!!

Awkward Selfie with Br'er Rabbit. OMG!!

I was so excited!! This pretty much made my night!

I have no pictures of what happened next for some reason, but we went through the trick or treat lines near Tom Sawyer Island and then we walked on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Yes.

You read that right. I got my mom on Big Thunder. She said she felt ready for the next step up after surviving Mine Train, and I told her this was the next step.

She didn't like this as much, LOL!! She said she was glad she did it at night b/c if she could see where she was going she would have never made it. Ha!

I know EXACTLY why there are no pictures for this next bit. It's because the first parade was getting ready to start and we were making our way through the crowd in Frontierland to get to the Haunted Mansion. We did get to see the Horseman run through before we visited Gracey Manor. The butler was out on the lawn:

and the mansion looked creepy and lovely in the moonlight

(All of my pictures were taken on my iphone 6s plus. I upgraded to the iphone X over the weekend, so I'm hoping my pictures from our upcoming New Year's Eve trip are better. I really noticed the quality of my phone pictures has lessened over the past six months or so. I know they claim that forced obsolescence is a myth, but my phone wasn't just running slower, it was the overall performance.)

After we concluded our visit to the Haunted Mansion, we got in line for the special photopass shots. But then got out when I realized what time it was. We needed to get up front and secure a place for fireworks! We ended up on the Tomorrowland side of the castle. Not in the greatest spot, but it wasn't bad. I don't have a ton of photos b/c I wanted to watch the show in person and not through a screen, but here's what I have:

After the fireworks we waited for the crowds to clear out. I left my mom sitting in our fireworks spot while I moved closer. I saw a family sitting on the curb with a lot of room next to them. I asked if they were holding it for anyone and they said no. So I sat my happy self down and texted my mom where I was!

My mom was really getting tired at this point, so we didn't move any closer for the Hocus Pocus show. We watched/listened from our spot on the curb. I'm a little disappointed that we weren't closer to see, but my mom wasn't the only one who was tired!! I did not have the motivation!

During the show it was starting to drizzle and I was starting to get really worried!! Would they cancel the parade b/c of rain??

Hoping to finish up the party night in just a couple minutes!!

Chapter Four Part Six

The drizzle died out almost as quickly as it started. Crisis averted for the moment!

Not long after the Hocus Pocus show finished, it was time!!

I looooooved seeing the Headless Horseman make his run!! What a cool experience!

The man who follows along behind him to clean up after the horse was HILARIOUS. He was really playing up to the crowd and everyone was cheering for him!! Then, his smooth moves hit a snag. Literally. The wheel of his wheelbarrow got caught in the trolley tracks, LOL!!

I was incredibly excited when this started creeping toward us...

Here are some of the pictures I got from the parade. They are not very good, but they're better than nothing!!

The thing I was looking forward to the most in the parade were the gravediggers and the Haunted Mansion ballroom dancers. I couldn't get good photos, so I videoed them instead. I tried to grab some pictures from the video and this is the best I got:

Oh my gosh, the dancers are incredible!! It is such a cool atmosphere during that section of the parade!

We were both beyond exhausted. Standing in lines and fighting crowds can take a lot out of you!! I feel like we rush, rush, rushed throughout the entire party. I have no idea how anyone manages to do much more than we did, because we were going non-stop!

On the way out we had to stop for one more very important photopass shot.

While we waited...

There was a short line for this photo:

But it was worth it!!

What a whirlwind of a night!!

We got back to the Poly and went right to bed. We had a WILD day ahead of us the next morning...

Ok, that's all for today!! Hopefully I'll have more for you over the weekend!
