Polynesian Pixie Dust: A Love/Hate Vacationship. An October 2017 TR *updated 2/12x3 and Complete*

I upgraded to the iphone X over the weekend, so I'm hoping my pictures from our upcoming New Year's Eve trip are better. I really noticed the quality of my phone pictures has lessened over the past six months or so. I know they claim that forced obsolescence is a myth, but my phone wasn't just running slower, it was the overall performance.
I can't wait to see those photos! I keep trying to decide whether to upgrade to the X or 8plus. The X makes me nervous because of the no home button, but the Plus makes me nervous due to the size! I'll probably go all in on the X, because I know the selfie camera is better, which could come in handy for solo WDW trips!

Maybe one day I'll make it to a MNSSHP!

It was really fun! I think I preferred the Christmas party overall. I think if the gravediggers and ballroom dancers from the Halloween parade could be added to the Christmas party, it would be perfect, LOL!! If I had to pick which one to repeat, it would be the Christmas party.

I waffled back and forth for a long time. I've been thinking about an upgrade since last year. I didn't really have issues with my phone that bothered me enough to get serious about it until two or three months ago. As soon as I noticed my pictures weren't looking as good. That's a deal breaker for me!

I was scared to choose the X over the 8 plus, but in the end, I figured I might as well go on up to the X. I thought the no home button would be hard to get used to, but it was the easiest adjustment. The thing I'm still struggling with (it's only been four days so not much struggling, LOL!) is how you clear your open apps. You have to pull and drag from the left bottom corner, then do a hard press to put little red minus signs on each open app. From there you can swipe them away. I haven't figured out a smooth way to do that. Otherwise, I love the facial recognition for opening the phone. It has had no trouble when I'm wearing my glasses or sunglasses or I'm in low light. The only time it didn't open was in full dark when I grabbed my phone from in bed at night to adjust the thermostat. I haven't taken many pictures with it yet, and I"m excited to try it out while at WDW!

Oh, and the animojis are really fun to make, LOL!!

I would have waited for that last photo too if I had known! Guess I will just have to go back....:earboy2:

The Haunted Mansion ballroom dancers and the Hitchhiking ghosts directly behind them are so incredible! Crazy how fast the 5 hours of the party flies by.

Wow, I managed to get super behind but all caught up now! :thumbsup2 Really loved these updates, and loved your costume!!! Sounds like you really packed a bunch in during your time at MNNSHP, and I'm so excited to hear that your mom did some coasters!

Any reason to go back, right?? ::yes::

The Haunted Mansion ballroom dancers and the Hitchhiking ghosts directly behind them are so incredible! Crazy how fast the 5 hours of the party flies by.

They're my favorite part of the entire party! The time really did fly by. It just seemed like a whirlwind night.

Loving your trip report!! I have been to MVMCP a couple of times but haven't yet made it to MNSSHP. Looks like you and your mom had a wonderful time!

thank you!!

After doing both parties now, I prefer the Christmas one...but I wouldn't turn down another visit to MNSSHP, lol!!
We had fun, but it was one of the rougher nights for my mom in terms of tiredness levels. I think it was b/c we did a lot of standing and waiting rather than just moving the whole time like we would on a regular day.

Wow, I managed to get super behind but all caught up now! :thumbsup2 Really loved these updates, and loved your costume!!! Sounds like you really packed a bunch in during your time at MNNSHP, and I'm so excited to hear that your mom did some coasters!

I just sort of unloaded a bunch of updates all at once!

The party was nuts. I feel equally like we did a lot, and like we did nothing. I think it's the party conundrum. If I go during party time again (either Xmas or Halloween), I feel like I'd prefer to do two parties to get the full experience.

Oh, there's more coaster action to come, if you can believe that!! Either Seabands are magic or my mom realized coasters aren't that bad after all!

The Halloween Party looks like so much fun!! I love your pictures from the parade with the Castle in the background, and I love your costume!

My mom really liked it there, but she was still preferring the Polynesian. She did agree that it was impressive, though. The only thing that comes close to rivaling it is Animal Kingdom Lodge, which is my second favorite resort!

Wilderness Lodge won me over almost immediately!! But yes, AKL makes a pretty good second. Though if I'm being honest, I'm not a very faithful resort lover. Ever new resort I stay at (especially those deluxes!!) I find things I love about it. We fell unexpectedly in love with the Grand on our night there, and I also really want to stay at an Epcot resort soon, etc.

One of the most fun things at the Polynesian are the tikis in Boutiki. Aptly named, LOL!

:rotfl:

38178381664_29927ce813_c.jpg

Ooh I love the sass in this one! So definitely the clip wins!

Best. Scarecrow.

Oh my gosh, your outfit came our so perfectly! The dress looks awesome on you and the ears are adorable!!

Before we left the resort, I was considering leaving my ears behind. The hairstylist at the salon had braided my hair so tightly, which was great for the windy day and all the running around we did, but was awkward looking with the ears. I felt like I looked bald. Nothing wrong with being bald, but frankly, I don't have the face for it!

I think the braids are cute! I always felt that way with french braids when they were tight, too, but other people didn't seem to think they looked as unpleasant as I did.

Oh wow, a smile!! She made it!! :hyper:

I'd kind of assumed this was purely a "love and shove" type meet, but they were all fairly interactive and I had my hand kissed by almost all of them, and they LOVED it when you greeted each one by name. There was a lot of hugging going on.

Oh that's awesome! The picture came out so cute! I don't know if I'd find it "worth it" either, but it's a neat thing to have done once.

Yay! Amazing photo!!

Now THIS was definitely worth the wait! Are they not the cutest things ever?? I could not handle Eeyore in that clown costume, it was too too adorable.

This was one of the highlights of the night for me! So glad you found it worth it! Eeyore kills me in his costume!! I'm a huge fan of Eeyore.

I got to see George Sanderson after all - he had joined the Monsters Inc dance party and we got to see him dancing from the ride. Complete with sock attached to his back - 2319! 2319!

Bahah awesome!

:hyper:

Such a fabulous parade!! We thought it would get rained out for us, too. But I'm so glad it didn't and I got to see it for the first time.

Oh, great shot!

Hope your feeling better soon.

Finally I had completed the Pete's Meets (new trademark, LOL!)
One day I'll be able to mark this off my must do list. I love the trademark.

Now THIS was definitely worth the wait! Are they not the cutest things ever?? I could not handle Eeyore in that clown costume, it was too too adorable.
LOVe it.

You can see all the people even though it's dark. It was nuts. Last year we were at a sold out Christmas party and I didn't think crowds were bad at all. In fact, I remember wishing every day could be like a sold out party day. As far as I know, this Halloween party was not sold out, but it was so, so crowded. For the first time I understood why people complained about party crowds.
Our Christmas party this yr was sold out and was super crowded IMO. Line for Jingle cruise too long to wait in.

I'm a little disappointed that we weren't closer to see, but my mom wasn't the only one who was tired!! I did not have the motivation!
Been there done that.

What a fun night! I'm glad you got to see all the entertainment and do some trick or treating! And your selfie with Brer Rabbit is awesome!!

I loved reading about your party experience, even though it made me crazy jealous! It's my favorite thing to do in Disney

Prior to our trip last December, it had been the only resort I'd ever stayed at. We decided to branch out and try other resorts, and it's really just cemented my love of the place even more.
I know you've heard me say this many times in my reports but you are the reason WL is now my favorite resort. And because of that I just can't believe you haven't been there since I've started staying there!

he only thing that comes close to rivaling it is Animal Kingdom Lodge, which is my second favorite resort!
::yes:: My second favorite resort also. Great minds, baby!

She liked it!! That's good b/c I had another FP for it on another day, LOL! I took the risk!!
She really does look like she's enjoying herself, I'm glad she was willing to try it!

Pete's Meets (new trademark, LOL!)

Instead, I made the decision that we would meet the Seven Dwarfs.
We've met Jack and Sally but never the Dwarfs. Next time we do a party I think they'll be a priority :goodvibes

so we decided on mac and cheese at The Friar's Nook.
I always forget about this! Ricky is a mac and cheese lover so I must remember to tell him of this in March.

Awkward Selfie with Br'er Rabbit. OMG!!
Br'er Rabbit! Oh it's been too long since we last met...................

I think I preferred the Christmas party overall. I think if the gravediggers and ballroom dancers from the Halloween parade could be added to the Christmas party, it would be perfect, LOL!! If I had to pick which one to repeat, it would be the Christmas party.
And I think you're the first person I've heard say they prefer the Xmas party over MNSSHP lol. But I get it; the Xmas party is awesome also. I kind of want to do that one again too even though my heart lies with MNSSHP. Seeing recent pics of MVMCP and hearing from folks who have gone this year makes me hope to go next year. As well as going to the Halloween party next year. And the F&G festival (which I am :)) And F&W...................

It's the day after Christmas!! I hope everyone had an awesome Monday whether or not you were celebrating. I'm going to try and push out as many updates as possible tonight and tomorrow because...

DH and I are leaving for Disney World the day after tomorrow!!

Our flight leaves in the afternoon and lands fairly late. We'll be staying at the Hyatt inside MCO that night before moving on property. Woohoo!!

But I still have so much left to tell you about October...let's get started!!

Chapter Five: So Many Animals, So Little Time

Since we'd been out late the night before, I'd planned this morning to start later. All we had to do was make it to Animal Kingdom in time for our late breakfast.

The first picture on my camera roll for this day is this one:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Which was obviously taken outside on the sidewalk, but I have no recollection of going outside?? I have no idea where the mystery snail came from, LOL!!

I do remember getting up and getting ready, then heading upstairs to the lounge to get something for my mom to eat so she could take her pills, since our breakfast wasn't until 10:10.

While in the lounge, I overheard a woman saying to the man she was with, "I still have them, I can't find anyone going to Animal Kingdom today." I looked up and said, "I wasn't trying to eavesdrop, but I heard you say Animal Kingdom - that's where we're going today."

She said, "We have these rider swap passes but we leave today and won't be using them, do you want them?"

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Um, yes, thank you!!

Sorry for my unmade hotel bed there in the background! The rider swaps were for Dinosaur and Everest if you can't see it in the photo. I didn't have FPs for those because I wasn't sure mom would ride those (actually, I was 100% positive she wouldn't ride Everest), so this was an awesome bonus.

Speaking of Fast Passes, here's what was on tap for the day:

IMG_2833 https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Safari, Flight of Passage, and Kali River Rapids.

The park was opening at 9am that morning, and I think that's close to the time we were walking to the bus. It was getting ready to pull away but the driver stopped when he saw us start running. It was a Disney bus miracle! I've never had a bus stop moving to wait for me before. I've had plenty watch me run and pull away though. We got on the bus and told the driver thank you. He laughed and said, "What happened ladies, did you sleep in?"

The bus ride seemed to go fairly quickly and before long...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

We made it!!

I love the Magic Kingdom, and don't feel like I'm "home" until I see the castle, but Animal Kingdom is my favorite park. There's just nothing like it! I couldn't wait to show my mom this amazing work of art.

Since the park was just opening up when we got there, it was just a *little* bit crowded...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

We hung back and let them move ahead while we stopped to look at some parrots (or macaws?? Red jungle birds, LOL!)

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

and then stopped for Photopass pictures!!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Tinkerbell is everywhere!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I wonder how many I'm going to make DH stop for this week?? All of them!!

My mom was very impressed by the Tree of Life. Actually, she was very impressed with everything at AK so far, and we hadn't even hit the tip of the iceberg!

We were heading toward Africa. I figured we could try to check in at Tusker House early. I needed to make a quick restroom stop. It was over near the Starbucks...is it called Creature Comforts?? I think that's it. Anyway, next to it I found my new favorite Disney wall. Bubblegum Wall and Purple Wall who?? Meet...Oddly Shaped Monkey Wall!!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I want to make this the new Instagram trend!

Over near there we noticed a Photopass Photographer, so of course we had to stop and wait for him. While we were waiting we saw that he was doing a ton of different magic shots for people, and we got really excited. Would he do the same for us?? Yes!! Not all of these are very flattering, but I was so impressed with all the different shots we got, so here you go:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

(I've mentioned my mom is a breast cancer survivor...yes, she IS actually wearing a shirt that says Save the Hooters )

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

(annnd yeah, I swiped my mom's clip in flower for my hair. Which I did not wash after the braids the day before...the picture is not showing the sheer volume of the puff ball on top of my head. It was messy and impressive, LOL!)

Oh look, I have 35 chins! One for every year of my life!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

But wait...there's more...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Fun, right?? It was like hitting the Photopass lottery.

It was time to move on though. Next stop, Africa!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

We saw a giant bird:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Africa has some of the best views!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

You can see all the way to Asia from here :rotfl:Don't use Animal Kingdom as a reference for Geography class, kids!

Let's admire Harambe for awhile ok?

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

This is part of the reason I love Animal Kingdom so much. It's so immersive and detailed and gorgeous! I think it was about 9:40ish when we got to Tusker House

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I went ahead and got in line to check in. There was a family in front of us who claimed they had made a reservation but the CM couldn't find any record of it. The lady kept saying, "but I went online and clicked on it! I know I have one!" The CM asked if it was under another name. No, no chance it was under another name. Then she asked if the woman had an email confirmation number or if it was in her MDE. The lady said she never got an email and didn't have the app on her phone. The CM said, ok, did you get to the part online where you put in your credit card number? The lady said, "it never asked for a credit card, I just clicked on Tusker House and picked a time! That means I got it, right?"

Props to the CM b/c she was so patient. It was quite obvious the guest had no idea what she was doing. She went ahead and gave them a buzzer and sent them to wait.

Another CM came up in the middle of that exchange and called me up to check in. They said we might have to wait a little bit since we were early, but it was less than 5 minutes before my name was called and we went inside.

We were seated in the first room to the right. It was the same room I'd been seated in before, but toward the back (last time we were the very first table in the room right at opening)

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

We sat and ordered our drinks (coffee, POG, and water for me) and ran up to get a plate. We'd barely sat down before our first friend came to visit:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

this is probably my favorite character photo ever!!

When Donald left us, it was time to eat!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

My buffet plates are never impressive, but this is, clockwise, Mickey waffle and syrup, zebra coffee cake, Potato and Leek fritata (I think it's potato and leek?? I know it's leek for sure, it's my favorite one whatever is in there with the leeks!), a sweet potato casserole thing, a chicken curry thing and basmati rice, and bobotie. Everything was good. I am not always a curry fan, but this one was good. My mom really liked it a lot.

The characters came fast and furious while we were eating. Goofy was our next visitor. Awkward selfie with Goofy:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Goofy and mom having a moment:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

The Main Mouse himself:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

My mom handing me her phone as I took a photo...oops.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Another Awkward Selfie, this time with Daisy girl. She was so sassy!!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

All of the characters were a lot of fun, as you can probably tell!! We each made another quick trip up to the buffet - I'd forgotten to get bread pudding and I can't skip that! It isn't nearly as good here as it is other places, but I would have been sad if I'd missed out.

We were ready to head out and look for more adventure!

I found my favorite poster:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

and we admired some tribal masks:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

before making our way into Harambe Village. We had so much left to see!

That's all for now! I might get one more update posted tonight, but should definitely get a couple up tomorrow. I need to get this TR wrapped up b/c I'll be starting a new one when we get back from our New Year's Eve trip!!

Which was obviously taken outside on the sidewalk, but I have no recollection of going outside?? I have no idea where the mystery snail came from, LOL!!

:rotfl:

She said, "We have these rider swap passes but we leave today and won't be using them, do you want them?"

Ooo yay!

Meet...Oddly Shaped Monkey Wall!!

I love it!

Fun, right?? It was like hitting the Photopass lottery.

I love how invested you both look in this pose.

this is probably my favorite character photo ever!!

It's really cute! I remember you posting it on Insta I think, and I really liked it.

I'd forgotten to get bread pudding and I can't skip that! It isn't nearly as good here as it is other places, but I would have been sad if I'd missed out.

Can't forget the bread pudding!

Good morning!!

I'm being super lazy this morning and doing zero of the things I need to be doing to prep for our departure tomorrow. I should be cleaning...well, I do have my Christmas Roomba running (which I am OBSESSED with, by the way. We have so much dog hair that I have to use the regular vacuum or dustbuster a few times every day on our wood floors. Roomba is a lifesaver! Or at least a time saver).

We also have to venture to Walmart today (ugh!! I hate going to walmart!! We are the home of walmart so the one near our house is fancy and nice, but still. It's like the 7th circle of hell in there anyway) to pick up last minute travel stuff we didn't get at Target yesterday.

DH has my jeep at the dealer getting an oil change and has put travel alerts on our cards and stuff, so at least he is being productive.

Hey, I am just being productive in a different way...by giving you another update of this TR!!

It's Pandora time everyone!!

Chapter Five Part Two

When we left Tusker House we were just a few minutes too early for our first Fast Pass, so we killed time by looking in the store and trying not to buy everything in sight.

It was a successful timekilling expedition and now it was time for an expedition of another sort.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I love the safari. I will never get tired of it, and I will go on it as many times as I can each trip. Usually that just amounts to one or two times, but if given the opportunity for three or four times, I'd be there! I knew mom would enjoy it too, so it was the perfect first stop for this trip.

I just can't get enough giraffes in my life!!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I usually take a bunch of pictures on the safari, whether they're good or not. It's a compulsion. This time I didn't because...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I let my mom sit by the window of the truck and 99.9% of my pictures have her phone in it as she put it up in front of mine. So I just gave up. It's not like I don't have 50 million giraffe pictures already (not that I will let that stop me from taking 50 million more in the future!!)

After we had safari'd it was FINALLY TIME. Pandora!! OMG!! This was me -----> :yay::yay::yay:

We entered through the edge of Africa behind the Festival of the Lion King building. It was fun to see the "backside of Africa" (second cousin to the backside of water, ha! This is a recycled joke I've used about something before, but when you find a good thing, don't let it go :rotfl:)

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Get ready for a lot of not-so-awesome pictures of Pandora, ok? Our bright sunny morning was quickly becoming cloudy. A note on the weather: it was awesome. Sunny but not humid or hot. I was hoping the impending rain would not change that too much and turn Animal Kingdom into a swamp!

As we walked along the entry pathway I noticed that every single lamp looked different:

This one reminds me of the cocoon lanterns in A Bug's Land at California Adventure...I wonder if they used the same mold??

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

The lighting was bad, but there are a couple of examples anyway!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Woohoo! We made it!!

It's breathtaking, guys. I have not seen a single picture, even by a professional or Disney themselves, that comes any kind of close to showing how spectacular Pandora truly is.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

When you are there, you have to look everywhere. Up, down, all around.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I was pretty sad that my pictures came out so dull b/c of the gray cloudiness that had replaced all those blue skies and sunshine from the earlier morning.

Pandora is DH's main priority for our trip this week, and I feel a little bad that we're not going to AK until our last day. The weather is supposed to be chilly the day we're there, so I'm hoping that it keeps crowds away. Yes, yes, I know. That's totally wishful thinking. But, we are going to the park pretty early so maybe the morning will be easier??

Anyway, back to THIS trip...

I was particularly drawn to all the flowers - both real and manufactured. They were all beautiful.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

We had our Fast Pass for Flight of Passage, but we couldn't stop looking at everything. So...more pictures.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

The wind was really picking up and blowing the water from the waterfall all over us and everyone else within a close distance.

Hello Floating Mountain!!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Oh, and I guess at some point we stopped for photopass...they are not very good, but hey, I'm transparent and show you the ugly too!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

It started to sprinkle, so we gave up our exploring and headed into the cave for our FoP FP. As soon as we started walking up through the line toward the covered cave area, the sky opened up and began to pour. I felt realllly bad for everyone in the standby line who was out in the open and uncovered. They got drenched.

We thought the cave paintings were really cool:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

but we didn't have a lot of time to look at them. There was barely anyone else in the FP line and we just cruised on through. When we got to the warehouse looking part, we almost thought we were in the wrong place because there was no one anywhere in sight. We got through very quickly, and I don't think it was more than 15 or 20 minutes before we were actually on the ride. That includes the pre-ride stuff.

That's all for right now, but I will come back in a little while and put up more!! Happy Wednesday, Friends!

OMG-- I got a Christmas Rumba too and love that thing! ( I feel kinda icky about the amount of dog fur my Dyson has been missing, but its so Jane Jetson to be doing things while something is vacuuming for me :rotfl2:) Love the latest update too, hope the next trip is awesome!

Similar thing happened to DD and I on FOP. It was the two of us and one other lady in the Warehouse room and we were wondering if we went the wrong way. Great update and enjoy your NYE trip!

I told DH it was the only household device I would probably ever want for a gift, lol. I love it. I also love watching the dogs stare at it in confusion!

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking I was lost on FoP! It really felt so deserted in there.

Thank you!! We check in for our flights in just a few minutes...it never feels real until we land in Orlando, though. Only about 30 more hours til that happens!
