Precheck or...

My dh is looking into global entry as he is possibly/probably going to the Middle East as soon as he can get it done. We are 45 min south of Hartford but there is no appt at bradley any time soon so he will have to drive up to Northern VT to get it done, aka a 6hr Drive north and then a 6hr Drive south when done.

Check that NYC location, I have heard that location can usually get a quicker appointment then some of the others.

Also if he does up up going to up North have him look into NEXUS. It's only $50 for 5 years and includes Global Entry. You need to interview with both US and CDN officials but from what I have read here they schedule those back to back.

It took me 4 months to get an appointment at Bradley. It appears that it's just one person working in a small office in the international terminal. Quick and easy once I got there though.
Has he checked for appointments in NYC (Bowling Green, near the Wall Street bull)? 90 minutes on a train beats 6 hours driving in my book.

Not sure. He is still waiting for his application to get accepted. So they not know we are headed to see the mouse in 40+ days? I told him he can fly to Saudi from Orlando!

My understanding is Clear and Global Entry work at a limited number of large airports. But if you generally fly in or out of one that accepts it, it is nice.
TSA Pre-Check is more widely available.

My dh would most likely be flying out of JFK or Logan if they have flights. He is still waiting....

Global Entry includes TSA Precheck as well as a watered down version of Nexus, and Sentri.
I can't speak to international travel and global Entry being accepted at all passport control and customs lines (It's my understanding that it is) but you will get TSA Precheck for all domestic travel.

I got my GE card a few years ago and while it required a trip to Logan Terminal E, the process was quick and simple. I use my GE card exclusively when I travel as my ID...never had a problem with TSA.

I made my GE appointment when I was going to be close to a center for something else. It took a little longer than I expected, but that was because the people before me took a little longer than expected. My interview went quickly. I use my passport as my ID when I fly (even domestically) and it was a bit surprising to hear them comment on my travel history. Even more surprising was that they knew what my job was, but I assume the background check had already been completed - the interview was just to make sure everything was on the up and up.

I guess when your GE interview is within spitting distance of the border, you work in law enforcement, and travel more than the average American, it makes sense that the conversation will be interesting.

Just to be clear, CLEAR is not equivalent to TSA Pre-Check. It is like a Fast pass to the security line, not a fast pass through the security line.

TSA Pre-Check has a separate line for ID check and once through that ID screening, a separate line for bag check/body screening.

CLEAR has a separate line for the ID check which CLEAR does electronically (with fingerprint or iris scan). They show your boarding pass to the TSA officer checking IDs and then you are escorted to TSA Pre-check line or to the regular security line.

Global Entry facilitates your return to the United States by streamlining the customs and immigration process. It also currently gives you TSA Pre-check as well.
