QOTD-favorite thing about Aug.

Normally I look forward to watching the Little League World Series in August. We will skip a year and look forward to 2021.
My other favorite Aug thing is my birthday. It's Thursday, and I'm looking forward to celebrating with take out and a slice of cake. 🍰

@Meriweather I love your list of August special days. So fun!

:) I'm not able to eat marshmallows (too gooey and chewy) but chocolate (ice cream) or melted a little Hershey or Crunch Bar is always good 🍫

Big thank you to Carol, for the perfect church Easter and lily picture!

I may still need pictures of a church choir loft (please no people in it if possible) and Holy Communion elements set up.

Are there any artists in this thread? If so. I would truly appreciate a PM. Very simple (for someone who can draw more than stick figures unlike me :D) illustrations needed. Of course always a call out to anyone in general who might like more info on my kindness book project. Thank you again!

there are a lot of them.....I picked the ones from site that sounded best, but

I keep getting behind....I can read from my phone but prefer to reply from my laptop but then I get caught up in something besides getting on my laptop to reply....:sad2::laughing: Anyway, two best friends are having a hard time right now, one recently had her dad in ICU(not COVID and thankfully doing much better and home now) and other just recently lost another really close friend of his, again not COVID but because of COVID, he wasn't able to go say goodbye before she passed. So the three of us go together at one's house for some much needed friend time. We had dinner and spent the night, I left the next morning when they both wanted to go to the casino....I'm not quite comfortable to go there plus I didn't have any extra money to lose.

How about - What is your favorite thing about August?
August has always been a BLAH month. LOL We used to have our county fair in August but then they moved it to May because Aug is always too hot and it was affecting crowds. Schools here start in early Aug so it always seemed like the end of summer and getting into the school routine again. The only thing I really like about August is my daughter's birthday, its Wednesday. She's going to be 22.....its crazy to me that I have a child that is an adult. Hubby is out of town again this week so I'll just making her tostadas for dinner with my parents coming over for dinner and cake. On Saturday we'll celebrate with hubby and my dad will be making her favorite meal of his, salisbury steak and probably another cake, maybe ice cream cake like you all were talking about a couple days again...LOL

Happy Monday ya'll,

It has been busy few days. I had my friends 13 year old girl twins over on Friday. Saturday was grocery shopping, cleaning and long nap.
Sunday, we had Mass online, watched a movie, and had a fun outing to a flower farm. It was simply beautiful. Small and charming and I can't wait to go back! Here are some pictures.

Today, I worked on organizing and trying to put my house back to where I'd like organized. Oh, and watched it rain and rain some more. Dinner tonight was BLTAs with cut up veggies and dip. I was feeling lazy this evening.

QOTD: I don't really like much about August truth be told. I don't like the super heat or humidity growing up in Arkansas. Here in Indiana, it's better some and normally would be lots county fairs and festivals but of course not really right now. So finding new things like flower farms and lakes to float along.

Gratitudes:
Safe place to come here on the DIS with all the chaos and ugly going on elsewhere
Nice relaxing weekend together
My pantry is organized!

Pictures from the flower farm!

Looks like such a peaceful, beautiful place. 😍
August 1: National Mustard Day
August 7: International Beer Day
August 9: National Book Lovers Day

August 10: National S’mores Day
Meriweather, I could go for S'Mores day.
mmmm....I LOVE s'mores.....
Sometimes when I'm desperate for a S'more and don't have any marshmallows, I'll spread some peanut butter on a graham cracker and sprinkle it with mini chocolate chips.....yum...

I hope your back is better today easyas123!

apirateslifeforme, That pie looks delicious! Love your dragonfly pictures. We have a ton of them flying around our front yard all the time.

lovemygoofy, The flower farm looks lovely. Wonder what the name of those white flowers are. I bought one for a small pot outside, it bloomed until a month ago. Maybe it's the heat?

Nancy, I wonder who comes up with the names for the days..........

Carol's first day back at work went well. She spent the day in meetings and video conferencing learning some of the protocols for trying to social distance and still teach. She found out that the tables in her room are being replaced with desks so shes happy about that.

The grandkids did well without their mom for the first time in five months. I figure that it will take them a couple of days to realize that this is a daily thing. Of course they began misbehaving as soon as she walked through the door.

Dinner tonight was a new recipe to us, Cheddar Ranch Chicken and Vegetables (baby red potatoes and broccoli). The consensus was it was okay but we don't want it again. Oh well..........

What is your favorite thing about August?
It's hot here this time of year, not as hot as where you are Nancy but the humidity can be a killer, so we stay in for the most part. This year hasn't been that bad, not too many 100 degree days. I go outside to watch the kids play after 7:00 pm for a little while. If we can get a good breeze its not too bad. I guess August is good for the times we can take a trip to escape the heat. We've gone to Ruidoso, NM a couple of times, it's only a 10 hour drive. It's so nice to wake up to temps in the 60's when its in the 80's in the morning at home.

QOTD--- Corn Roasts!! Our family always had large family gatherings and roasted dozens of corn on the cob over wood fires. It was such a great time with delicious food to share.

My husbands family used to hold a annual corn roast in August!

Back is feeling a bit better, thanks everyone! It'll be a few days before I'm back to 100% - but frankly, that's my own fault.

Getting that tropical storm/Cat 1 hurricane today. I've lost track of what it is at this point - To bad I'm stuck in my office and not enjoying it on my porch. We had a tornado watch for about 45 minutes this morning, but nothing came of it thankfully. I'm going to be on the road most of the day tomorrow, so at least the hard rain is here today.

What is your favorite thing about August?

I'm not sure what my favorite thing is...Our anniversary is mid-month, but we usually don't do much in the way of big celebrations. It's not usually a big travel month for us either. I think for us August is mostly about looking forward to the fall and preparing for that! And finishing up any summer projects we started.

Dinner tonight is a venison roast in the crock pot w/ onions, tomatoes & peppers cooking down with it all day. Kinda like cooking it down in a base of stewed tomatoes. Anything to use up all of these tomatoes! I'll roast a bulb of garlic and either steam some broccoli or ??? with it as well.

August is my favorite month, well maybe December is my fav, but August is a close second. My dad’s birthday starts the month out, then my moms mid month, 1 uncle, two aunts, my best childhood friend , then my birthday. ( so I guess everyone was having fun the beginning of December to have August birthdays 😀). So lots and lots of cake and ice ream. I also love back to school shopping. A brand new box of crayons and new notebooks

We are under that tornado watch now until 9:30. Just a lot of heavy rain right now. My poor little garden is getting smushed down.

Glad the tornado warnings were just that for you. Just checked with both stepsons. One lives in Ocean City, the other in Salisbury. They said a few trees down, but luckily no damage. One is already at work, the other one stayed home with the girls till the warnings expired, and is headed to work now. Just said on tv that they have closed down the Bay Bridge,,that is scary! (I don't like that bridge anyhow, I have to close my eyes anytime we cross it!). Stay safe out that way!

they have closed down the Bay Bridge

They did, yeah. We are only about 25 minutes above the bridge and while it is raining hard here, the trees are still as rocks. Not windy here at all. My son is currently commuting over the bridge daily and he got across no problem, but that was earlier. He leaves work around 3 or 3:30 and I'm sure it will be opened long before then. I know we had tornado warnings and watches and all that, but kinda a dud here in Kent & Queen Annes Counties from what I can tell. Of course I've not been down to the creek or thru the woods at our place so we could have some high tide and downed trees! I also don't facebook so I don't know of any isolated anecdotal stories of trees down and the like. Down in Mardela Springs (down Wicomico way) a house came off it's foundation due to a suspected tornado though. We will see how much more rain we get, the low lying areas will get flooded.
