Room upgrade email

Has anyone else received an email from Royal Caribbean to get on the waiting list for possible room upgrade for a low upcharge? Just wondering how often they actually call people on the waiting list.

No rhyme or reason...

Upgrades or “offers” come to you for several reasons:

Inventory: If RCCL has LOTS of rooms left and they are trying to just move them, they’ll call out to make offers. That fills the more expensive rooms and frees up the better priced inventory for an easier sell.

The other reason is that there is some behind-the-scenes issue that, for some reason, they need YOUR room…. So they’ll call and entice you to give up your room for something better.

It’s just a luck thing if you are offered an upgrade.

It can definitely happen, but don't plan on it.

Hope that’s helpful.

DW received one of those calls out of the blue for our first Oasis cruise. Upgrade to Jr. Suite from regular veranda for minimal $$$. She went for it and it was a nice improvement. Spoke to cruisers in the connecting cabin when leaving the port and it happened to be their relative's room we were in. They had to cancel a couple weeks before the cruise so RCCL called booked customers and everyone before DW said no. Shades of Judge Harry Stone on Night Court being the only one to answer the phone and thus he got the Judge position.

Those offers are upsells and not really upgrades. Upgrades in the hospitality industry are not charged for. This is offering you a "better" (in their opinion) category at usually a reduced additional rate, but it is in no way free.
