Thanksgiving

Hello! We will be buying into the DVC this year - our initial trip goal is to pool three years of points for a 3BR Grand villa for thanksgiving of 2020.

We would bank the 2019 points - and borrow from 2021 for the trip. We’re looking at the AKL as our home resort. What is the best use year of 2019 to buy in order to make the trip happen, points wise?

Thanks,
Mike

If you get a Dec UY, Nov 2020 will fall in your Dec 2019 UY. So not Dec. If you plan on Nov most of the time (or Dec), Oct should be good or Sept. Anything other than Dec will give you three years worth of points to use.

But if you do get Dec, you'd be getting 2018 points first. So you'd bank those 2018 points use 2019 points and borrow 2020 points. However, should you need to cancel, you'd be right at the end of your 2019 UY in Nov 2020. You'd lose all three years of points if you had to cancel that Nov 2020 reservation because of the odds of getting something else before Dec 1 would be nil.

If you travel at the same time of year, all the time, then make sure to get a UY that is just before your travel time. It is much more important than getting one extra year of points.

For your purposes -- any UY can make that trip happen. I'm guessing you might not be fully understanding what UY means. It has NOTHING to do with when you are allowed to book the vacation. If you own at AKV -- all UY can start booking that vacation 11 months prior to the first check-in day. The only thing that UY matters for is what pool of points you are using when you go on vacation. It has nothing to do with when you book.
