The adventures of Tiggerdad (A collection of camping locations, mishaps, reviews, alterations, food, and whatever else I can find)

Working on some things to keep my mind occupied. After our last trip with kittens we made a few alterations in order to give an out of site place for their bed as well as litter box

Under the bunk beds is a storage compartment. You have to raise up lower bed to access it. There was only a 9x17" thin panel blocking it from main room. I tapped that out and held onto it. I can put it right back later if needed.

This is the view from above. Its pretty good sized.

I had some leftover oak wood from some cabinets I built so I stained and sealed it then cut it down to right size.

The camera flash shows more shine off the fresh sealer. The color actually blended quite well. This pic didn't do it justice.

Now I went looking for an access opening...

I made the cutout.

The finished product.

It isn't centered for a reason. The furnace is that opening on the right. The flexible duct for the heater vent comes out just to right of cost entrance and goes up. I had to avoid it.

Cats have taken to ig well. We have them an oversized bed under there as well as a tall litter box. We'll keep an air freshener under there to help but DW always uses plugin freshners when we camp.

Just saw a post yesterday that pluggin freshners can be hazardous to animals, the fellas dog almost died. May be worth googling. We do not use them.

Thanks man, I did some researching on that. Interesting information. Perhaps we might look into an air purifier instead.

Got camper washed up today. Head to GSP Monday morning for a short 4 night stay. I've been strongly warned to avoid the restaurants. Physicians I've worked with in past who work in area reporting lots of cases. We'll pack in enough food for us to cook our own meals. I might wonder to a fresh market for seafood to cook.

Mainly biking at park and we'll use the middle beach due to less folks there.

My neighbor came by the house today and when he stopped I heard rushing air from his rear tire.

Folks, I always fix my own flats and have for years. Ivd seen nails in tires, screws, glass, and wire. However, this was a first.

A railroad spike.

TIGGERDAD
HAS COME BACK
TO
GULF
STATE
PARK!

On the move again. This time on site 62 so stating in same area.
20200713_133944.jpg

Uneventful trip. Its HOT! Not much breeze. Sharp contrast from Memorial Day for sure.

Will be visiting some former coworkers while we are here. Avoiding crowds. Mainly cooking at camper.

There is some bath house renovations going on.

20200713_133959.jpg

Currently the one at White Oak and Sumac and the one on main strip behind where Bert and Kris usually stay.

More to come.

Got outdoor kitchen set up.
20200713_212749.jpg

Got some baked potatoes put on in place of some fries.
20200713_212811.jpg

I had posted some time back about wanting a Blackstone but I had recently bought this two burner grill. Thus, I found a griddle piece that fit perfectly.
20200713_212724.jpg

Then, I promptly cooked burgers.

I also promptly forgot to take pics of the finished product...
giphy-downsized-3.gif

It worked out good though. No flame ups.
I plan to get up early for some biking while the girls sleep in.

I've tried my best to tech them that pole dancing is not the best career choice

They all insist on drinking at same time.
20200713_220356.jpg

They prefer to eat by firelight

I have no idea what flowering plants these are but they provide thick cover. Th we main road is only about 40 feet through it but you can't see it. You can only make out roofs of campers as they go by.

A possible caption to the outdoor kitchen photo (the first one in that post) might be:

Roughing it the DIS Camping way. :confused3

My boss and a work peer are at scout camp together, about 20 miles from me, with their kids' troop and they're complaining on the work group text that it's wicked hot. I didn't have the heart to tell them I put an extra blanket on the bed because the AC was keeping up so well last night.

I'm not sure how I'm going to voluntarily get back in a tent when my boy is camping in scouts

Tell 'em they're soft, PTP!

As a boy I worked on my Boy Scout summer camp staff 3 summers (2 as a lifeguard-got a wicked super tan :cool2:). Went for a week of camp for years with each of my boys. THEY worked on the summer camp staff at their council camp for years each.

You get used to it after a while (about when it's Saturday morning and time to go home, that is).

Keeping us over the target, tiggerdad has got a hot stay in Gulf Shores. Maybe there's a breeze blowing off the lake and next to the Comfort Station that can reach his site.

What I'm really waiting, for, however, is a yellow fly update like "I'm sweating to death tonight outside but hey no flies!"

Bama Ed

PS - seeing 76F as the lowest of the daily low temps for the next couple days, tiggerdad. AC gonna run all night (and all day) I'm afraid.

No yellow flies!

Hot! Very little breeze back here on Sumac. I did go ahead and land site 17 this week next July however.

Apparently all bath houses here getting a remake. The one on Rabbit Road has a heap of trucks around it. Cutting tile this morning.
20200714_081631.jpg

Spent morning biking. The way they are handling the pool and splash pad currently.
20200714_084123.jpg

Road trail all the way around park. One of the wooden raised bridges crosses the inlet between middle lake
20200714_085750.jpg

And little lake which you can see in distance.
20200714_085800.jpg

Something I had not seen before was the backcountry camping sites. By reservation only. They are located here:
20200714_104935.jpg

There are three
20200714_091357.jpg

Each looks like
20200714_091105.jpg

20200714_091112.jpg

There is a pump style sink that they share
20200714_091135.jpg

Out of room on pics so on to another post...

Backcountry also has restrooms:

20200714_153654.jpg

20200714_153546.jpg

It even has a shower!
20200714_153816.jpg

The small canvas stays seem to have small amount of solar power.
20200714_153850.jpg

And firewood. Pay on honor system.
20200714_153910.jpg

From there on down the trail until you reach Orange Beach.
20200714_154033.jpg

Following the expressway out of Orange Beach. This is the main point in and out of Orange Beach.
20200714_154111.jpg

You follow it to the town hall. That parking lot signifies the edge of GSP. You note the "you are here" black mark on far right of map. The campground is way back on the left.
20200714_093059.jpg

Long way back...
