What are the best luxury hotels/homes in LA?

It depends on what you are looking for. For shopping and dining, the Beverly Wilshire has a quite nice location. Personally, we prefer the Peninsula.

... I have never been to a Pen!!

Then how do you know you don't like it? ;) We like the BH Hotel, but it is a little isolated -- meaning that we needed a car to get anywhere (which is our usual lifestyle in L.A. and something we like to get away from on holiday, if possible). The Beverly Wilshire allowed us to walk (how novel in L.A.!) to prime shopping and restaurants. Even to the cinema (the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts, & Sciences -- aka The Oscars -- is not far away and does occasional screenings for a low fee). The Hotel Bel Air is very pretty, but, again, rather isolated -- so good for relaxing and getting away from it all. Not so good for being accessible to it all.

Always wanted to stay at the Beverly Hills Hotel but the Beverly Wilshire sounds like a better choice, due to location...?

Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel was pretty nice, if I'm going to shell out that money I at least want an ocean view.

We really love the RCLN for the views and have fond memories there. But since Marriott bought Ritz Carlton, we think the hotel is not what it was. The level of service has gone down. They no longer offer the same top-notch level of luxury that they did when they first opened. But they are still a very nice hotel with a lovely location.

Have you been?

Oh interesting. We went for our 10 year anniversary, bt that was long ago.
