Would it be worth it for us?

DH and I are trying to decide between a few trips for this fall, and Vegas has become a contender. We're in Tucson, so we would be driving out. We're looking at coming from October 29th-November 2nd. We are looking at gettin the King Spa Suite at the Luxor. I just have a few questions/concerns.

1. DH has friends that live Vegas, and they told us that Halloween is a big deal? True? Would it be dumb of us to buy cotumes and plan on dressing up, or is that what everyone does?

2. If you have stayed in the spa suite, was it worth it? What was the view like for the room?

3. What is the Luxor's room service like, price wise? Reasonable? Pricey?

4. Aside from casinos and shows...is there anything else to do? I have ZERO interest in gambling, and we don't want to spend a ton to go to the shows.

1. I don't actually recall there being a big deal over Halloween last year - but admittedly, I left on the 30th.

4. Tons. Get a couple of guidebooks - The Unofficial Guide to Las Vegas (written, coincidentally, by the author of the WDW Unofficial Guide) and something to the effect of "The Ten Best of Everything in Las Vegas".

2 and 3 not answered because I've only stayed in a pyramid room and never used their room service.

Qualify this that we are not Vegas fans.

1) Were there over Halloween 2009 and there were some great costumes, people were really into it (but there were a few fantasies that would better have been left behind closed doors but then this is Vegas)

4) Helicopter to Grand Canyon (pricey but great)
Outlet malls - If you are a shopper there were great deals (tourism is way down)

My personal feeling on Vegas - hotels are amazing, rooms are great, but I find it a very sad place walking through the casinos, which you can't avoid, and down the streets. To me it feels like everyone is trying to have fun but nothing is real.

We have been there for Halloween...haven't noticed it to be a really big deal, but there are some costumes.
SOOOOOO much to do & see. These resorts have spent a ton of money to get u there in hopes you will give some to them at the tables/slots--but you don't have to!
Wandering through casinos to see the beautiful (or cheesy...) theming
Bellagio fountains
Mirage volcano
MGM lions
TI Sirens
Bellagio/Wynn/Encore--just gorgeous
Caesars Forum Shoppes--and experience, not just shopping
Venetian gondolas
NYNY/Sahara/Strat--rides
Seriously, you can wander in & out of casinos just checking it all out for days

"Everyone is trying to have fun, but nothing is real"--we ALWAYS have a REAL fun time in Vegas. We have gone nearly 20 times over 17 years. We do gamble, but for us it is simply entertainment budget. It is FUN for us. We never go expecting to win, but it's nice if we do. Don't get me wrong, I have no problems if someone doesn't gamble. And there are problem gamblers out there (but more than likely you cannot tell them from the rest of us when you walk through). But most of us just go for the energy of Vegas!

What do you want to do? Anything you can think of that you would do on vacation, you can probably do in Las Vegas.

Spa - Almost every property has a spa. Get a couples massage or if you go to the Canyon Ranch Spa at The Venetian there's a Rasul experience you can do as a couple

Attractions - Shark Reef (Mandalay Bay), Madam Tussad's (Venetian), gondola ride (Venetian), roller coasters (NYNY, Sahara, Circus), arcades (Circus, Excalibur, NYNY), Eiffle Tower elevator ride (Paris), Fremont Street Experience light show and more.

Shopping - Forum Shops, Miracle Mile Shops, Venetian shops, Fashion Show Mall + 2 outlet malls and more. Anything from Tiffany & Louis Vuitton to 3 t-shirts for $10 at the ABC Store.

Day trips - Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, Grand Canyon, Laughlin

Hiking - Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Grapevine Canyon

Boating - Lake Mead, Colorado River

Dining - There is every kind of dining you can think of in Las Vegas. If you're into fine dining there are dozens of celebrity chefs that have restaurants. If you're into theme dining, there's restaurants like Hard Rock Cafe, Rainforest Cafe, Margaritaville, Harley Davidson Cafe, NASCAR Cafe and more. There are dining experiences from In-n-Out burgers to Joel Roubuchon at The Mansion that cost over $400 per person.

Also - Halloween can be crazy if you go to the special events that most nightclubs have. I believe the suite type you have is in the spa tower section at Luxor and not the pyramid; and I believe they have several on every floor. Some will probably have strip views and some will have mountain views. Ask when you make your reservation. They will probably tell you they can't guarantee where in the hotel you will be. I've never spent the night there so can't answer your questions; but if you wanted to get an idea about their room service prices, I would just call & ask for room service and ask how much is a continental breakfast; how much is a club sandwich; how much is a burger and how much is a steak - those four prices will probably give you an idea of a price range of what they have. One hint is to pre-order; call at night and ask for X to be delivered at 8am the next day instead of waiting until you wake up to order.

If you don't want to spend a ton on shows, use the same-day discount ticket places. It will be harder to plan, but you'll probably save a lot of money.

1. I moved to Las Vegas Oct 20th of this past year and since I moved I had no money. Halloween is as big or as small as you want to make it, lots of the clubs have costume parties. What we did was we got dressed up went to Stoney's country bar (free admission with a costume) then went to the strip and ppl watched we found a little store that sold alcohol and just watched everyone and saw some interesting things. We like to ppl watch by Balley's they have a court yard area on the strip with kiosis and a out door bar. If you go to a club just watch the cover charges some of the up the price because its halloween.

2 and 3. I really don't know much about just done site seeing in Luxor.

I love also just going to the casinos they get decorated for different things. I would not miss the Bellagio they change the lobby 5 times a year. The pools at the hotels should still be open that time so there is another thing to do. Also all the prior post have had good things to do.
