Wynn gets amusement park

I remember the old park at MGM Grand. That didn't do so well.

That old MGM park was pretty fun if you were under 21. Log flume, some kind of small coaster, but my fave was the rip cord. 3-2-1 fly!

I was just at the Wynn a couple weeks ago; the golf course is still there (closed of course) with real demolition taking place yet.

Ahhh the good ol' days of Vegas when it was all about fun, family friendly themes. Then it turned all adult.

My parents started taking me to Vegas at age 9. They would give me $20 and set me loose at Circus Circus for the day. Back then $20 covered a bunch of carney games, lunch, and souvenirs at the shop next to Slots of Fun. No one batted an eye at a 9 year old navigating the city alone. Today, if I let my kid walk to school alone I’d get arrested. I’m so happy I got to experience old Vegas. I don’t think Vegas was totally family friendly ever. But you used to be able to drop kids off in kid friendly places. I hate new Vegas. Hate the clubs with the bottle service, hate the slots that don’t pay out, the super expensive food, the hotel rooms with all their resort fees, and the lack of comps for anyone not a high roller.

Water park cancelled along with new tower associated with it. $500 a round golf course to reopen after getting a face left. Wynn slowing down construction plans and will reevaluate what they're going to do with the other land they own on the strip.

Wynn's was built on the site of the old Desert Inn, so I assume that is the golf course behind the hotel. In the summer it is SO hot in Vegas, hard to imagine many people playing golf in the blazing sun and certainly not for $500/round.

I agree. It USED to be that if you wanted to go gambling in the US, your choices were Nevada (Reno or Vegas) or Atlantic City. Now with SO many other casinos all across the country, it is surprising Vegas still acts like they have a monopoly on places to gamble, when clearly they don't. That new 'resort fee' of $40/day and $20+/day parking makes NO sense and another reason to go elsewhere. Slots seem to pay out much less then when we went 5 or so years ago. We rather do a day trip to a local casino and have very little interest in ever going back to Vegas.

Yes, absolutely resort fees are stupid. I feel it's a matter of time before government regulations begin requiring that resort fees be included in the advertised price, much like how taxes and fees are now required when purchasing an airline ticket in the US.

However, I have no issue with the parking fees. It's a result of the T-Mobile Arena. You think MGM will allow 20,000 people to park for free to attend a Golden Knights game? No way! Then Caesars has to follow suit, else everyone will park at their properties when staying at MGM. With that said, it just takes some research to realize that most other resorts still offer free parking. Tropicana, PH (cause of the shops), Venetian/Palazzo, Treasure Island.

I love going to Vegas, but I don't go there to gamble or party. My wife loves trying the different restaurants that have set up shop in the resorts, and watching the many spectacular shows. The strip is less gambling and more entertainment now.

Wynn announced today that they are bringing back free self parking

Think that is a smart move. Vegas casinos on the strip largely compete for the same people. Giving an incentive to choose one over another is a good move.

Makes sense. Wynn is so far up there and away from the arena with no real northern neighbors (until RW is finished) that it'll drive foot traffic into the building. That whole intersection now has free parking.
